Hello my friend. Well, here we are. The final chapter of The Art of War. They say that every corpse on Mount Everest was once a highly motivated person. I've seen many a great video series begin on KZbin, only to not be completed for whatever reason. This work is now complete. Everest has been conquered. When I first started this project 8 months ago, I truly underestimated the time it would take to complete the series. The research alone to provide the historical anecdotes has taken hundreds of hours, but it was important to add context to many of the tactics and strategies that Sun Tzu speaks of. The end of the book has come before the end of the year, which means for you that next year will bring new projects and new videos. I am already working on this material. I'd like to specifically thank you helping me build this channel by sharing videos you enjoy. It is much appreciated. I wish you every success for 2018. - Adam

I think it was an odd choice to color the slaves as black, as if I recall, the helots were natives to Greece? And the Spartans believed they themselves weren't natives.

Credible acknowledgment to the "error" (and technically, yes, it's an error)... However, cut the guy just a tad of slack. He's only recycling an old model for sake of time and resources to get the video out. It's an oversight that he didn't recolor the older model with lighter skin... That's all. A little weirdness, and I might argue, it makes for reason enough to pay attention so we (audience) catch those little errors. In the over-all narrative of Greek history, I'm not entirely sure as to the actual validity in that "lore" about Spartans not viewing themselves as "natives"... I know they had some dispute over lineage through Sparta, but I haven't yet found quite enough resource for a "complete view" on the matter from "credible historical account"... if you can understand what I mean. Otherwise, yes, you are at least fairly founded... At the same time, however, the Ionians, from whence most Greeks do claim at least some lineage, WERE absolutely great seafarers of their time. (Greece even now is a series of islands mostly) and there's some evidence that they had more than a little contact with Africa. SO it's not entirely outside the realm of possibility that some few slaves all over Greece may have come from Africa... That posited, I doubt there was much of a "majority factor" of African influence. :o)

@@gnarthdarkanen7464 Yeah buddy, this benefit of the doubt you wish us to extend is the foundation of the privilege that no longer exists. It's not all a bunch of people making 'an error.' It's systematic, and these errors, do not cancel out like a true random sequence of errors would. Instead they continue to benefit a certain type of person and impede a different kind. Systematic. Face value is how we roll these days. Nice try though. I giggle with contempt at your effort here to sweep this under the table.

The amount of people complaining about the fact Spartans used black slaves is just ridiculous, instead of commenting about the excellently made and well explained video. They revert to overreacting and becoming offended about the ethnicity of an animated slave! Just appreciate the video, it has some really nice information. It is laid out and animated brilliantly, well done on the video Eudaimonia and keep up the good work!

As soon as I saw that they chose to use darker-skinned people as representative of Spartan slaves, I knew there would be a disproportionate amount of butthurt in the comments. My poor cynical self was not mistaken. The butthurt was indeed disproportionate.
@dark18106 жыл бұрын
Historical truth doesn't matter as much as your political outlook eh ?
@fuzzydunlop79286 жыл бұрын
My political outlook? Oh sweet summer child go burn that strawman somewhere else. "Historical truth" in a 10 minute video clip (which btw didn't explicitly state that slaves in Ancient Greece were black or dark skinned or whatever your preferred nomenclature) doesn't get my panties in a knot nearly as much as if it were in a peer-reviewed source or a school textbook. It's proportionality, outrage in proportion to the attempted legitimacy of the content. That's why I find your outrage to be laughable and desperate. I don't even see - were I your personal flavor of Liberal - how my political views would fucking come into play with what we're talking about in this video. That bit made you sound kinda dumb, imo. Again, kinda desperate. Proportionality is what separates enthusiasts like me from pedants like you. I don't care which side of the spectrum you reside, shove that bell curve up your ass either way.

@Romano Coombs the Spartans were genetically identical to the helots with the Spartans considering themselves foreigners primarily because they believed they were the descendants of a mythical invasion. Historically the few accounts we have state they were descended from northern mycenaean Greek tribes.
