Thing is you should know what range you need for your average day before investing, and then size the van to suit your needs. I run a electrical contracting business out of a Renault kangoo ZE over here in New Zealand and ill admit I was a bit green when I purchased it, but its a joy to own say.... 99% of the time. The 1% makes me want to drive it into the nearest lake (And unlike top bloke here, I dont have DC fast charging, no 80% in 30mins bullshit) Have done 50000km so far.

@@MINIDISK111111 The so called 'Electric Future' is still years off, especially for tradesmen who spend a large portion of their day traveling between sites. Electric cars/ vans only make sense if you're doing small trips within your local town, and have the charging infrastructure at home/ nearby. They make even less sense for vans or trucks where their range will drop significantly if you carry any cargo.

The ABTe was a makeshift van to meet emissions requirements to avoid EU fines, hence it doesn't pair with the app, only has the Golf E 37kw pack and early models don't have fast charge enabled. Was one of the reasons I wished you good luck with it having known other sparks return them already. The Vivaro-E is a much better van though not an ideal replacement for diesel in all situations, the ABTe is very much designed with local deliveries in mind.

not only that if a typical charge costs more than £10 for just 55 miles, that works out at 18.2p/mile which is more expensive than diesel, which works out 16.5p/mile, assuming diesel costing £1.45/L in a van achieving 40 mpg.

Bloody luxury. I remember my first work van. A Dodge/Commer PO Telecoms (pre BT) dinosaur. I was once out accelerated by a half laden quarry tipper. It was just as well it was slow, because it had drum brakes all round so couldn’t have stopped in a hurry anyway. The first Scottish winter that I drove it, I resorted to wrapping an extra jacket around my legs as the heater didn’t work either, and the snow was blowing up between the pedals. Then the return spring on the carburettor snapped, and I had to lift the the throttle pedal up with the toe of my boot to slow down. Still, the replacement was a BL Sherpa box van, which was worse in almost every way!

Thanks for your films which reinforce my consideration of electric vans. I recently acquired an electric van (e-NV200 Nissan) when taking over a business. Maximum range seems to be 82 miles from full charge. Turn on heating and it drops to just over 50 miles. Don't have home charging so relying on public chargers is time consuming and expensive - and that's once finding a working charger and a possible wait for vehicles in front to finish. Totally impossible to use this for our business and will sell it ASAP. At least our current Ford Transit custom diesel is reliable, warm in winter, cool in summer and gets 500+ miles range from a 5 minute fill up. Maybe one day in the distant future e-vehicles might be suitable for us but not now. I do like the idea of zero road tax and no London congestion charge though.

This is about 15 pence per mile. Jordan paid 12 pence per mile at the first charge point and had to hang around for over an hour (at £80 per hour) just for that stop. There were two others on the way to Donny at another hour each. My van cost me £13000 and not £55000. Do that math! Electric vans are just not worth it at the moment.

@@anthonywilliamson915 Can't disagree. Though with the government effectively banning new diesel and petrol vehicles from 2030 and a lot of other countries following suit a lot of manufacturers have given up developing their engines. Surely rather than forcing people into electric it'd have been better for everyone for governments to say emissions had to be cut by 50% by 2030? Hey Jordan. Couple of EV tips: 1. If your van has no pre-heat timer, just manually switch it on 10 mins early while it's still connected to your charge point. This will use mains power to get the cabin warmed up and defrosted, not your battery power. 2. When rapid charging, it's quicker to leave at 85% charge because the last 15% is very slow. You're better off getting back on the road and recharging later when it's back down to roughly 10%.

Here in West Copenhagen I always find it brave when tradesmen and the like drive around in electric vans. I assume they're very local because public charge points are nearly non-existent in these parts, so you either have to charge only at home, or have enough range that you can make it to the super rare charging stations. Literally the only one we have around where I am is a Circle K gas station a couple km down the road, which charges £0.50 per KW. A 50-60 mile range vehicle simply wouldn't be viable around here - and if you ever dare to go outside the city you need to plan your trip even more carefully because charging points are even rarer. It's no wonder that most choose to go with a plug-in hybrid around here, or just stick to plain ol' fossil fuel

This concept just does not work. 7+ hours to travel 100+ miles is just crazy. Imagine what it will be like when there are a great deal more electric vehicles competing to get to a charger and then find, for various reasons, power is not available. There are going to be some very angry people about. You as electricians should know that the infrastructure is just not capable of supporting the demands of the country and there are no signs of the expected capacity needs being met in the future. In short, it's all bollocks!

Will need to go to a vw specialist or your garage you use to realign it. Hope this helps. Brilliant video as usual been a following you all from the start and watched you all grow. Inspiring work.

I think anyone would agree that diesel is on the way out. But I think at this point in time, with our current technology, we aren't there yet when it comes to work vans. There is no way my employer is going to hire another 20 engineers to make up for doubling site travel time. Then we are back into adding to the current cost of living problem. Employer charges customer more money, my wages stagnate, etc. Or keep the diesel fleet, but have to may a lot more tax and cost of fuel if they raise that to encourage EV take up, same problem. The cost will be passed to the customer.

@mbak7801
@mbak7801 2 жыл бұрын
@@dannyboisparky The VW is terrible. However by 2030 diesel vans in particular may either be banned from most large town centres or have to pay a high charge (no pun intended) to drive in and out of them. The year 2030 will not be a sharp cut off. No manufacturer is going to keep a factory going up to the wire as that would cost a fortune. Last new vans may be late 2027. Four hundred mile EV vans well established by 2028 say. Road tax for ICE vehicles will also probably creep up to make them increasingly expensive to use. Could you run a business using a park and ride?

Hi Jordan, watching this real time journey is literally making me cringe. The range for an expensive working vehicle is just ridiculous, the cost to companies having employees sitting around waiting for their vans to charge, getting to and from jobs, against a diesel vans ability to have just got there and back on a tank full makes then unviable ATM. Interesting Video as always Jordan and i admire your perseverance but you really need to consider cutting your losses and getting shot of that thing. It literally is a white elephant. A commercial van that literally can’t take you anywhere without stress and not even a decent mile range. The only feasible use for that thing is to use it as a collection vehicle for materials from the wholesaler. Brand new and you cant even get it upto the national speed limit or properly use the drivers window. Sadly not great. Sell it and whatever you get for it put towards a decent Ford Transit Custom which gets you 550+ to a tank with full winter pack activated.
