Sorry for all the questions. Do you ever use a torch to get rid of bubbles
@ThePaintedDreamer
@ThePaintedDreamer 2 жыл бұрын
No worries Jack! Not with the blooms technique no because the house paint scorches too easily and also the pouring medium has varnish in it which can be flammable as well as toxic if heated so I don’t use a torch. Other acrylic pouring f techniques that use more traditional pouring mediums you can though 😊

Oh sure, I have a link in my Amazon storefront (link is in description box below the video) to the 2oz round lidded cups I use if you want to at least check them out or search for something similar. The squareish ones I have are called baby cups, they come in a set of 8 with a tray from the fluid art company (link is also below video). Hope this helps! 🤗

Hey Lady Just wanted to say I love your work. Im pretty green but Im trying every day with almost better results when I started than NOW....grrr Iam going crazy with separating blooms from clouds and dutch, I catch myself doing probably all at once....I will figure it out. Watching past videos of yours you said you are in the Chicago burbs. I grew up in Hoffman Estates but when Mom moved to Huntley IL i found mynards. TX is nice but damn I miss everything about Chicago. Thanks for ALL your time, I again love your work. Kim from Hoffman well now FW TX.

Hi Kim! Thank you so much! Maybe you’ll come up with something fun combining the different techniques, you never know! 😃 I did sort of a blooms meets Dutch pour mashup (sort of), and it was kinda cool. But the cloud bloom may be something! I am very close to Huntley actually ha! And Hoffman Estates .. I grew up in Itasca, lived in Wheeling and Schaumburg and a lot of places in between, that’s so awesome you grew up in HE. I lived in South Florida for a time but even though the winters can be brutal, I love it here, there’s nothing like Chicago so I totally get it! 😃🤗💜💜

I think the second one where you did the interference green gold first so then the interference red showed more and I think that that looked a lot better and you can see the reddish pinkish look when you move the painting. Great job it's beautiful, that was a good idea to do it like that but second time. Both paintings were beautiful though!! 🌼😆💜🌸 when you spun it out you can really see both of the interference colors and it just looks so beautiful!

There were so many things I wanted to comment on, but I was trying to watch all the way through before saying anything. That is, until your surprised sort of sighing sound after spinning out the first. I burst into laughter for the joy of the moment. THAT is why I love this channel. Your delight is contagious. PS- Now I've finished. Both, amazing. The first one reminded me of Ralph Bakshi animation. And the details in the cells in the second are incredible. It seemed to me that your flourishes were done faster? Maybe I'm imagining that. Anyway, they really added texture and interest.

Sort of off camera I started playing with the water based a little and mixed it same way I mix the oil based one and it didn’t work the same and not too well for me. I need to play with it more as I think it could work it would be a different type of recipe, I’ll circle back to it at some point but my initial test was to see if it worked just like the oil based, it does not 😊

I live in BC Canada, and thus need to work with the US Floetrol (unless I win a big lottery!) and I appreciate greatly that you have and still are experimenting with the US Floetol in your wonderful blooms. Just wondering, do you know what we can use in the US in place of the Dutch boy we cannot get the 8300 here anymore… They had changed the number and added primer to it😢
@ThePaintedDreamer
@ThePaintedDreamer Ай бұрын
Hmmm my other favorite is the Valspar ultra either in high gloss or semi gloss base c. I know some use the behr dynasty also I’ve tried it and it’s very comparable to the 8300 but it was just too thick for me and would crack but I loved what it did. You can get samples or a quart size to try at Home Depot. The Valspar I mentioned I get at Lowes. Also at Lowe’s but a bit on the pricey side is the hgtv infinity base I’ve tried that also. Check out my playlists I have one that has a few different bases I’ve tried out. I think I used to mix the infinity with the behr 8300 but I’ve also used the infinity alone and it worked well. My favorite that I used the most was the Valspar though. Have fun! 💜

These are both fantastic! 💥 I'm really not a "purple gal", but you keep making these paintings with purple that I absolutely love ❤️ This was a great video to explain the cell activators. Question for you - you mix your paints for the bloom technique, but do you experience the same reaction with the cell activators using just a regular acrylic & water pour (like in a Dutch pour)? Or have you tried that?
@ThePaintedDreamer

Thank you so much Mama Dulas! My favorite color is purple so I always have to squeeze it in somewhere hehee, I’m glad you like them though! That’s a good question, I don’t really have any experience with the Dutch pour .. yet but that would definitely be something to experiment with using a cell activator and not with the paint/water mixed paints. I’m putting that on my list for future experimentation!! 💜💜💜

Hello Jodi! I’m brand new to flow painting. Please help me! I’m liking and learning from your videos. Do you mix anything with your pillow paint?
@ThePaintedDreamer
@ThePaintedDreamer 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alice 🤗 welcome to the wonderful world of fluid art! I do not mix anything with my pillow paint I use it straight from the can as is. Depending on your environment and the batch you have it could be a little thicker or thinner. If it’s so thick it won’t budge, you can mix in a little GAC 800 as that’s a flow extender or even a little US floetrol to help it. I don’t advise water as adding too much can break down your paints. 😊

You’re very welcome Serena, I’m so glad my videos are helpful for you! I get the Aussie floetrol from either the fluid art company which is here in the US or if they are out of stock I’ll get it from Wholesale Paint Company directly from Australia, the price for a liter is pretty comparable. Any video where I’m using the Australian floetrol as the CA you’ll find the links to these sites in the description box below the video 🤗💜

Beautiful as always but I have a different type of question. Is it not recommended to use a blow dryer or an airbrush for blowing this technique out? I wondered why you wouldn't use a device to help with this...if the outcome wouldn't be as good or something. Or, is it that the bloom should be kept a little tighter and the spin takes care of the rest? Thankyou.
@ThePaintedDreamer
@ThePaintedDreamer 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Carol! The original way I was taught when I first took the class for the blooms it was blown out with your mouth. The dryer didn’t come along until people started experimenting with it more. I still prefer my mouth as I have more control than with a dryer. I know as I keep going bigger I’ll probably have to incorporate a dryer as I don’t think I’ll be able to blow out a 20x20 but don’t put it past me to try 🤣. You can certainly do either it’s personal preference and how you want your outcome to be 🤗💜

Yep the one I use is the red can the oil base but don’t let that detract you, you use so little of it, it doesn’t effect when you go to finish your piece. I’ve varnished and resined over my pieces that have used it and haven’t had an issue 🤗💜

Hi again. Real beautiful. When you say interference colours what do you mean. Is that same as cell activator?
@ThePaintedDreamer
@ThePaintedDreamer 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan 👋🏻, thank you 🤗 so interference colors are a type of paint so it wouldn’t be the same as the cell activator though you may be able to use an interference color as the paint part of your cell activator along with the floetrol. Interference paints when mixed up look white with an underlying glow of that particular interference color (i.e. violet or gold) but dry clear with the glow of their color and they will look different up against darker vs lighter surfaces.

@@ThePaintedDreamer Sorry....just forgetting things sometimes. You did tell me. The mica is metallic and has a lot of shimmer. And can be a bit much for me. So I do like using regular paint with em. Kinda tone it down some. But , for those who like tons of BLING BLING!...lol They are all set.... But , that's just not me. Though , sometimes I'll add alittle of a mica color. To my regular paint. I've invested way too much money in this. I did 18 tries last week and can't even show them. I'm an artist and feel I "should" be able to do this.... NOPE! I'm wondering how much climate plays a part in it. I live in Phoenix where it's warm and dry in my house.???
@ThePaintedDreamer
@ThePaintedDreamer Жыл бұрын
You’re welcome Shelley 🤗 please don’t get super frustrated, I know it’s hard but it took me a good 6 months to get something remotely what I wanted to look like a bloom. I’m not saying it’ll take you that long but I wanted to give you some perspective on how challenging this particular fluid art technique can be and US floetrol can be a bit more challenging to get cells so please don’t beat yourself up. Environment DEFINITELY plays a role in your paints and how they react. Cooler = thicker paints and can be a challenge to keep them thinner, warmer = thinner paints and can be a challenge to keep them thick enough to keep your cells from disintegrating. There’s a learning curve to learn how your paints respond in your environment and how you execute everything. At the end of the day, make sure to have fun with it and know you are learning as you go and it may not end up exactly how you want it at first but you are making progress with yourself. I’ve been doing this over 3 years so it does look easy when I do it, just compare your progress with what you are doing and not others my friend, you can totally do this! 💜💜

Hi Jodi, I love your videos and your explanation of the process. I always look forward to seeing your beautiful creations. I started acrylic pouring last summer and I’m loving everything about it.... Definitely still learning but loving the journey. I do have a question about your drying time and if you run a dehumidifier or ac in your studio. I’m in CT and it takes at least a week (or more) for pieces to dry..... very frustrating. Keep those videos coming 😊
@ThePaintedDreamer
@ThePaintedDreamer 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary 😃👋🏻 Thank you so much for your kind words that truly means a lot! Environment can definitely play a role in drying time. Mine usually take at least 24 hours to dry to the touch. I’ll let them cure about 4 weeks before I finish them. I’ll explain my environment so you can get an idea. My studio is in my basement and not temp controlled, I do have a dehumidifier down there just outside the studio as it’s for the whole basement and I try to keep the humidity under 50% at all times. In the summer it’s usually around 47%-49% down there and may make my pieces dry just a little longer like a day and a half if it’s a bigger piece (example 11x14). In winter average humidity is about 35% as you don’t want it too low either. My temp fluctuates down there from winter to summer from 65 degrees - 80 degrees and everything in between, with the cooler temps and lower humidity my pieces dry faster. With a higher humidity and higher temp my pieces will dry a bit slower, about a day and a half for an 11x14. I know this was long winded but I wanted to give you the whole picture so you can make any adjustments in your environment. You just don’t want anything blowing directly on or around your drying pieces also. Hope this helps! 💜
