Jodi I must say you are my go to gal for bloom technique info. This will be my go to video for PM mixing. Love your tips and tricks on this video not to mention you references with Bling, Super Bling, and Dollips. One question I have is how long do you let your art pieces cure before you put resin on them. I know most of my other acrylic pours I let them sit from 4 to 6 weeks before I clean and resin them or varnish them. once again thank you so much for your shared knowledge on this technique. I have to admit this is not a cheap venture. I am hoping to finally get a decent results. I took the course way back when and just walked away from it as I just could not get it.

NOTE: If you can’t find these brands or are in a different country the components you want are an untinted base house paint (base c or d, base 3 or 4 whichever is lowest, deep base or ultra deep base or neutral base) plus a water based polyurethane gloss varnish to make up your Pouring Medium. If you want to try a more traditional pouring medium base because you can’t get certain components, TOTALLY go for it and give it a try 😃 it’s YOUR Art after all! 💜 Another Note: You don't have to use the Behr in this mix you can totally just use the Infinity with the Jo Sonja Varnish at 4:1. You could also just use the Behr as well but it can get very slippery by itself and weird out your cells which is why I would use another untinted base with it to cut down on the meandering ways the Behr can be.

Hi Jodi! Thanks for this awesome tutorial! You strike me as having a very analytic mind, so was wondering if you have done an analysis on the function of all there chemicals, and what they do? Basically the science of what they do. It might be too involved but it is easy to get confused as a paint pouring wannabe. There definitely is a science to which properties need to be added in. KZbin artists all seem to use different recipes of the same chemicals, so you have gone above and beyond explaining this for the bloom which you have perfected. Thanks again for an awesome presentation! Susi from Florida 🥰

Thank you for taking into consideration that everyone doesn’t have the same resources to choose from nor the same funds available. Also, the measurement statement not to mix by weight was so helpful because on other types of pouring I’ve seen lots of videos that say mix by weight. Of course there are others that say, just eye ball it. That is scary to me! My judgment is not fail proof, nor are all of my containers all the same. So many variables for various techniques. So, all information distinctions are great. Thanks.

You’re welcome Jo! Since you are in Australia and this technique was created by Shelee who is in Australia you would actually be using the same products she uses. If that’s something that interests you I highly recommend her online class. It’s what I took to learn this but I had to adapt for US products except for the Australian floetrol which I have to import. I agree these designs would be awesome on clothing. Being able to retain the vibrancy is a challenge but with hi res images and the right printer may be possible. Thanks so much Jo! 🤗💜

Hi, Mrs. Miyagi.. it's me yet again, Daniel Son. Lol!! I finally got my AUS Floetrol and was curious if you had a video on that cell activator recipe? I've been using your US floetrol/amsterdam one. Thanks for your time as always!!
@ThePaintedDreamer3 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel Son .. hehee .. I think I mixed up the Aussie floetrol in a video mixing up the Dutch boy PM, video #12 at the beginning to give you a visual. But basically it’s 4 parts floetrol, 1 part paints I usually do tablespoons so 4 TBSP floetrol, 1 TBSP paint, mix well! 😃🌺

@@ThePaintedDreamer thaaaanks.. just realized I actually watched half of that video already. Guess I need to watch it over and in it's entirety. Haven't used the dutchboy yet. Been using your hgtv infinity PM and the behr PM. Excited to try my Australian Floetrol (the magic juice, I think you called it lol). 😊

@@smugoverdose Sure thing! The Dutch Boy was the first untinted paint base I discovered for this technique and I think will always be my favorite but it's only available at Menards which is regional so I don't use it a lot on camera anymore. The Infinity is my next favorite and I like adding the behr to thicken it up and also adds a nice shine ... have fun with that magic sauce and yes, it is magic!! :D

@@ThePaintedDreamer yes unfortunately there aren't any of those in Louisiana... but... Michigan is like my second home and they do have them there so if I ever get the chance I will try to grab a can or 5 lol. Thanks again for ALL your time!! Silly question: can you do these techniques with very cheap paint like Apple Barrel? Just curious. I have paint that ranges from very cheap to rather expensive. Who would want to right? I just wonder if you ever tried.

@@smugoverdose You're welcome! I have collected some craft and dollar store paints I plan to test myself so I haven't really used yet but they should work especially if you use them in combination with other paints but if you use just cheap paints, I mean they should work but the quality may not be there or if you get any weird paint separation it may be why but I'm not for certain, if you have them, I say give them a go! :D

This was such a comprehensive tutorial!!, as you well know, I am a total novice at this method, you even answer one question by me looking at other people’s questions. I do, though, have another. Why do you use Infinity and Bear at the same time ?. Thank you so much ❤️
@ThePaintedDreamer3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Consuelo! To answer your question I have love/hate with the Behr. It is the clearest untinted paint ever however it is hard to work with by itself so I add a little bit of in to thicken paints up and use it in combo with other bases to get the benefit of it. You absolutely don’t have to use it. I really like the Infinity by itself but if my paints are a bit thin I’ll add in a little Behr to thicken them up. 😊

Thank you for the informative video. Can you tell me how you mix the untinted base if you want it to come out as a white base for background?
@ThePaintedDreamer8 ай бұрын
I would use a fluid white paint if you are going to mix your own background paint so it doesn’t get too thick on you. Just start adding until you get the consistency you want, a lot of it is trial and error

You’re very welcome Raine, I’m so glad I can help! If you follow Erica Hughes here on KZbin she’s in Ireland and I’ve see her use, in place of the Sherwin Williams Infinity I use, the Valspar V700 Interior Wood & Metal Gloss Base c untinted house paint. Also I believe the pillow she uses is the Valspar Brilliant White in Silk. I hope this helps!! 🤗💜

Hi Jody, thanks for sharing! It was a great help. The EU - where I live - is not really a “somewhere isolated island”, but most of the SheleeArt technic ingrediences are not available here. Don’t know why, but I think it has something to do with enviromental laws or restrictions. A satin Base C house paint i.e. is nowhere for sale, but I did find a Base C mat to experiment with. But buying Minwax or other components, thru Amazon costs a fortune and forever to get here from the other side of the pond or from Australia. But I did manage to get my hands on a JoSonja PU varnish. So I’m still not giving up and will keep experimenting with the paints they do sell here in Holland! Thanks for your help so far!

If you can get your hands on Australian floetrol for the cell activator, I’m finding it works with just about any PM (traditional or house paint/varnish) to make cells the more I test. The other thing I haven’t tested yet but hear it works is Amsterdam paint mixed with water for cell activator works with different PMs too. Some ideas for your exploration ☺️ have fun!! 🌺

Hi, I live in Ecuador and I can’t find anything to make cells happen and your cell paintings are so beautiful! I can’t find silicone oil either! But I was thinking maybe essencial oils might work, what do you think??

Hi Dianne, essential oils aren’t the same as silicone oil, some hair oil products have silicone or dimethicone (which is a type of silicone oil) that may work but you would need to experiment as I don’t know the brands you have there 😊

Love all of your knowledge and thank you for sharing. This was very helpful. I will try your techniques. May help my issue. My question is on your base/pillow paint.? What do you add to the base house paint if anything? My pillow seems to seep through and cause white spots which is annoying.
@ThePaintedDreamer2 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome Denise, thank you 🤗. I don’t add anything to my pillow paint I use it straight from the can. If your other paints that go on top of your pillow are too thin your pillow may seep through easier, try thickening them up a bit 🤗

Wow, saw another Jodie comment! Such a rare name so surprised.. anyway great mixing video. Love you being open to experimenting. At one point I think you said get the highest gloss for the base. So do you prefer high gloss untinted deep base? Since this was semi gloss, curious about that. My other question is using those small cups to store your paints, I bought them too and wonder do you keep washing them after your down to the bottom? I feel horrible about throwing them out but adding similar new paint to them did not work well for me. And nervous about washing and having some acrylic go down the drain. I try and catch most of it.
@ThePaintedDreamer3 жыл бұрын
I know right! I was floored seeing another ie, besides you haha! I did say the highest gloss and I see it working well for others but I might be rethinking that theory given what works well for me and what issues I’m still having with the squirrellyness of some bases. I still can’t get the Behr to behave on its own, only with other bases mixed in will it. And I’m finding now it’s because it’s high gloss and a bit too “slippery” .. I absolutely love the infinity by itself. It also works amazing with the Behr mixed in. I’m going to be testing more semi-gloss and regular gloss (if I can find) bases next to see what comes of that. Those paint cups once I’m done with the color in it I let them air dry and the paint peels right out. Any leftover paint in them I soak them in a bucket of soap & hot water and then that water I’ll put a fine mesh strainer in the sink, pour the water through that so it catches all the paint bits. Yea you definitely don’t want that stuff going down your drain! ☺️💜

Is semi-gloss Polycrylic ok? I bought that before watching the millions of videos I’ve watched and before the courses I’ve purchased. I have a gallon. And do I have to use Jo Sonja? I have Minwax pre-stain wood conditioner, both kinds.
@ThePaintedDreamer3 жыл бұрын
You don’t have to use jo sonja no you can use other varnishes as long as they are water based polyurethane. You want gloss but if you have a gallon of the Minwax poly semigloss I say give it a try see if it works out 😊. The Minwax Prestain wood conditioner would be for your cell activator if you want to use it in your US floetrol. 💜
