Welcome to Curator's Corner +, a new occasional series featuring bonus content that for one reason or another didn't make it into the main episode. In this episode William Greenwood explains a 13th century celestial globe and helps us understand how the skies where mapped and perceived in the Middle East.

It's rumored that someone will accomplish this feat within 3 thousand years of its creation. Not fucking likely.

Fun fact: The Alamut Assassin's Castle was the setting for Vladimir Bartol's book (titled "Alamut", unsurprisingly), which inspired a lot of the first Assassin's Creed, as well as the maxim "Nothing is real, everything is permitted". Regarded as one of the greatest works of Slovene fiction, it's often on the mandatory reading lists of schools here, and it was pretty cool seeing elements of it in such a widely successful video game! For an extra fun fact: the book is often seen as an allegory of the anti-fascist movement TIGR which existed during Bartol's life / time of writing, additionally, reportedly he never visited the Middle East in his life and wrote the book based on research and second-hand accounts.

Wow. I will definitely put it in my reading list. Do you have any other reading material relating to the Assassins?

That idea is quite dark if you think about it (talking about the "Nothing is real, everything is permitted), idk what kind of sect they were exactly, but this world being less real than the next life isn't an excuse to do whatever, in fact, we are communicated that every action, on an atomic level and beyond, will be judged and rewarded accordingly. Also in Assassin's Creed (the titles in general), there is weird asf masonic stuff. I don't think they are the best moral makers anyone should aspire to imitate xD. I studied art and stuff, and tbh people are just moral-less and think you can do whatever in art, I think otherwise, precisely the effect art has on people makes it something that you must be careful with. If you analyze the stuff, even if you don't believe in God, you have people who believe in Satan (literally) adding references to their stuff in games, films, and music... I saw a concert they did, practically a ritual tbh, and they even admitted that "religion came to warn you", they are getting more explicit by the day, but people are also getting more complacent... so it works for them. The world is crazy nowadays. But God is with the ones who refrain from submitting to the Devil and Hedonism. That said, thanks for sharing this comment and this little fact, it is indeed quite interesting. May God bless you and guide all of us so we don't get enslaved by other people.

He didn’t say what his name was or what he’s in charge of. They didn’t put his name at the beginning of the clip either. Not that it makes a big difference. Just curious why they didn’t. I love this channel.

I’m disappointed that you didn’t explain a little more in detail how it works and how one would read the various graduations on it and that it contains the ecliptic. Please do a part 2 and go into details about the functionality of the globe

Can we appreciate the fact that back then, with very little technology but just pure intelligence, they concluded the world was a sphere so they created this to map the stars around it? Modern day and we still have flat earthers.
@CanalTremocos

In defence of flat-Earthers, they accept the sky is a sphere. ...or, in some cases a semi-spherical giant screen where the illuminati project their fake stars.

He says "saved people" as if it were a positive act when what he means is didn't kill. By that yardstick I should have a Victoria cross just for the people I saved before breakfast.

There were some instances when certain people were oppressed and abused by other groups, so they asked the Mongols for help in liberating them, in exchange for pledging allegiance to Khan.

@Sunamer Z The medieval Muslim scientists were extremely religious. To say that modern Muslim countries are "more extreme" than they were hundreds of years ago is laughable. If anything, modern Muslim countries have become more "liberal" and less strict, not more strict.
@cometmoon4485
@cometmoon4485 3 жыл бұрын
Modern Islamic nations aren't able to be at the forefront of scientific advancements today because foreign "western" powers carved them up with arbitrary borders and pitted the people against each other, plunging the realm into constant warfare. All the while, "western" powers benefit greatly from the wars, selling weapons and gorging themselves on oil barrels.
