I legitimately went to the elders at one point and asked for this "help" they were tossing around. I was told, "sometimes you just have to not do it." This followed a lengthy story about a man who loved gay orgies and then became a JW. He still loved gay orgies, but just "didn't do it." That was the advice I was given. I quit a year later after 35 years.

Interesting how they give the most relatable situation; a respected, beloved, married man who abandoned "the world" and risen to the rank of "elder" - a man who has humbly confessed out of his love of the org, and his 'god'. His reward? Shame. His spiritual guidance? Nonexistent. The compassion for him? Trumped by bylaws. Any "help" or "advice"? Blunt platitudes, cold disaffected scripture reading. His privacy? Violated. His self confidence? Trampled. His private shame? A topic of group debate. Comfort? Just lip-service. Who is this for? Does shaming him improve his spirituality? Does it protect the members of the congregation from any threat? Does it provide anyone comfort? Does it help improve morality for anyone? Does it teach anyone how to live a better life? It's just control. Part of me can only wonder if they do this to sift out the ones who are willing to confess. What you have left after this is a bunch of two faced men lying to each other and themselves. Bliss in ignorance.

Lloyd I have a question. Do the elders really talk like that? I noticed in all these videos they all have this methodical sing-song way of talking. "Now brothers let's look at the book" it just seems like such an unnatural cadence of speaking. Especially Steven Lett every time I hear him speak I feel like I'm a child back in kindergarten. No one really talks like that in regular congregations do they???

I reckon there's a tendency for people - at least those giving talks - to naturally adopt the speech style of the organisation, certainly the religion they join, it's an automatic way of affirming one's group identity. I've also noticed a particular cadence used by islamic speakers.

What this series proves is that there is ZERO holy spirit or Jehovah or whoever else's guiding these men especially in disciplinary matters. Just imperfect, untrained people letting their own imperfections and prejudices guide them to make decisions that end up affecting others' lives. Also it made me laugh the level of excuses that they drafted for this man's tripping: - didn't grow up as a JW (because if you are born-in you wouldn't dare watching it or wouldn't have access to it??? 😂😂😂) - wife is menopausal (ofc had to be the wife's fault wouldn't align with the Bible's history that the entire human race was doomed because of a woman 😂😂😂) Instead of taking accountability for his actions (which anywhere else would be normal btw), he's shifting blame and divulging his wife's personal business. Very commendable indeed. This training series is a real gem in making people realise what kind of cult they are in. I hope as many of them as possible see it.

Not once does they Bible refer to self gratification which , I mean this man already said things aren't happening in the bedroom, I would prefer my husband choking the chicken than actually having an affair, an affair would also not just be releasing natural urges but a relationship which is much deeper, also how bout the Bible also speaking of not denying each other, why isn't that taken into account, shouldn't this be a discussion then with both husband and wife? Yes he didn't tell her, so also the secrecy encouraged towards women is just nauseating. Most religious leaders not just JW in my opinion follow closely behind the Pharisees making their own rules and regulations. For me if its not in the Bible its not from God the end.

Covering up the bad conduct of elders has become the order of the day. My "former" East Orlando (Dean Rd) congregation is a glaring example of that. I know elders who admit to watching R rated movies, who entertain themselves with combat sports such as boxing and MMA, who admit that they have elder peers who regularly use profane language, who drink excessively and so on and so forth. One elder who used to counsel me on my marriage when I was in complains regularly on how miserable he is in his marriage. One servant regularly attends festive events and talks of how he's gonna get seriously buzzed and if anyone is stumbled by it, that's their problem. Half the servant body has been disfellowshipped in the past. Covering up their sins while going after and marking individuals sins. They wonder why they're not trusted by congregation members. It disgusts me the double standard. That's why I left in Jan this year.

Before I realised that they were trying to pull me in w/ Bible study, we'd discussed our love of dogs. I shared my number with them and have started receiving Bible study invitations. These are really sweet people, I like them, respect them & in no way want to hurt their feelings or tell them they're in a cult (I know the latter would be futile anyway). However I was desperately looking for something I could share with them and you have provided the most level headed, least scandalous & clickbaiting of the lot. I don't know how it will be received, but I am going to be honest with them in a text explaining that while I know they mean well; I cannot accept reworded, relatively new doctrine that doesn't accept The Trinity and additionally fears it's leaders (elders).
