Additional info is in the video description! Feel free to ask questions below and I will answer them! Sorry it’s a long video, but I wanted this to be step by step. This isn’t supposed to be a fun or entertaining video, it was made to educate people doing this swap and hopefully help others that plan on doing this at home.

another good trick for installing a ring gear is to take 2 bolts and cut the heads offs and screw them in, they act as alignment pins.

If I’m using the same exact gear carrier and ratio out of another identical rear end do I need to set backlash from scratch or can I use the rotations of the adjuster sleeves I did to take the old gear carrier out to get the right backlash?

Well, I watched a bunch of videos but I still was confused about the set up.. Thank you for your time to make this video, as it covered everything that I needed to know.. Thank you very much, Well done.. I have been a mechanic for 30 plus years but I had never set up a rear-end... I usually fix snowmobiles or bikes, small engines, heavy equipment and fix my own vehicles, and boats, but this was exactly what I needed... I prayed for the knowledge that I needed, then turned on KZbin and you were there, and I didn't have to look anywhere else... JESUS SAVES Thank you Michael Smith in Maine USA

It's exceptionally rare that I comment on KZbin videos, but I wanted to say thank you for posting this video and for the obviously voluminous amount of effort you put into making this. I've watched this a multitude of times recently while attempting my first 14-bolt rebuild, referring back to this video again and again during the process. Thanks in large part to your video, the "14-Bolt Bible", the Yukon Gear setup instructions, and a few other resources, my own build turned out flawlessly. Thank you again for your efforts and for sharing them here. 👍

Man, you killed this instructional. By the way, just as a tid bit that I also found interesting is towards the end you talk about not having the right seal with the yoke. You acutally had a the right seal and yoke for the 14 bolt, its actually a generational item! AAM axles started using two piece seal, the original Corporate 14 bolt only used a single seal and the dust shield was integrated differently. Glad you found the two piece seal before you threw it back on the road. I used this video to see how you set the pinion depth (thats where I am at right now) just finished setting up the pinion pre-load with a crush sleeve eliminator - I really suggest it for future videos it was much easier to tear down, re-shim and setup.

It was a great video Ben. I wish I had the shop and free time to do a 1ton regear. ECGS quoted re-gearing my D44with an E-locker at $2500 with chromoly shafts. Purchasing their ECGS D60 with an e-locker, chromoly shafts installed on the Jeep was $3200. Seemed like a no brainer to me. Maybe one day when I swap out the Ultimate44 I got from your raffle and do the 1ton up front I’ll restart this video and grown some balls to do it myself 😂😂

Fantastic Video, I'm preparing to do my 14B swap now. Thanks for the info. Also the reason the pinion gets fried if the pinion carrier is misaligned is because the lube oil holes must be aligned. The pinion carrier can go on any way (which means it can go on incorrectly where it blocks the oil).

It's actually after 10 o'clock p.m. Eastern time I watch the whole thing You are some of the greatest You conveyed it very well I'm 64 years old and I can tell you impressed me extremely well thank you And doing this video You made a mistake on that seal but that's no big deal because you checked rechecked and checked a 3rd time and you caught it.the greatest of the greatest.do the same thing you did However I liked your video very well and the best ones I've seen on all the above You conveyed it very well Yeah you miss pronounced a few stuff but that's OK you corrected it the end results remember what I'm gonna say It's a 100% correct or it's wrong there's no in between My friend I rate you at a 110% I wanna tell you something off the wall When a mechanic tells you he needs to break in the engine That is the wrong mechanic When you build an engine correct you're only setting the piston rings A lot of mechanics say I got a break in the cam or bearings. Bullshit. I have a great laugh brother bye

Great Job. A benefit of the crush sleeve is you can re-adjust your pinion preload (by tightening the nut) back to spec after your pinion bearings wear with time. Whereas with the Crush Sleeve Eliminator you will have to disassemble and reduce shim thickness. Also, you failed to mention the backlash changes after you change pinion shims and may need readjustment, but I think your final recap made it clear it needs to be double-checked in the end. Thanks for taking the huge amount of time to make this how-to video. Have you had a chance to run the set-up yet?

Timken is pretty much the best for parts store (autozone, advanced, oreilly, napa, etc) bearings, but they are still made in China. Koyo is made in japan and has been touted as one of the highest quality bearing companies for years and years, if you had the option for Koyo's I would have spent the extra money to get them. IE, I run Timkens for wheel bearings on my lifted Sierra 1500 daily driver, but I run Koyo's in my suzuki transfer cases with expensive aftermarket gears, etc.

Awesome walk through! You might try using a cordless drill (slow setting) for turning the pinion, with a wood block wedged between the ring gear and housing (to create drag.) Just another of many ways to create drag on your gears while marking the pattern.

I just did to 14 bolt steering axles for my buggy and when I got to put the ring gear in the front with the school it was really tight it barely squeezed past the pinion bearing casting. And then when I did the rear end and I was putting in my 538 Yukon gears like I have in the front with the spool same spool as I have in the front for no amount of work could I get the ring gear past that pinion support housing so the quickest work around was to carefully shave the sport housing down just a little bit probably just under an eighth of an inch there's still plenty of meat and I don't think I weakened it too much after I made the decision to do that I read on pirate that I wasn't the only one and it's quite common. If you don't want to go to that you could always I would suppose playing down the inside of the ring gear Fort Wayne down the adjuster a little bit but that would take some doing because if you claim down the threaded side of the adjuster you're losing thread if you plane down the contact side of the adjuster you may have to devil it back out again so it clears the cage of the bearing. It didn't seem feasible for me to add more thread to the inside towards the axle tube or to grind down up inside there so it would thread Beyond where it stopped.
