The hardest part of quitting alcohol is when you realize how much time you've lost doing absolutely nothing with your life. It's bitter sweet, because you know you still can do a lot with what you have left, but hard at the same time knowing precious time was wasted fucking laying around with a bottle.

6 months sober today! I listen to you often when Im driving and want to thank you for your effort and dedication to sharing your videos! One subject you touch on from time to time is the effect alcohol has on anxiety.....It literally CREATES anxiety, then the cycle continues. I started experiencing it at the end of my 35 year drinking career.. Aside from the typical worries of normal life, I have very little anxiety at all now that Im sober and I FUCKING LOVE IT! Thanks again

It's really insane that we have no idea that alcohol basically "creates the itch that it itself scratches." I drank because I was depressed, having NO idea how much alcohol exacerbates depression and anxiety. I was amazed how much better it got after I quit.

Thank you very much for your video. I'm 5 years sober on the 14th August so the no. 14 in your title meant something and I love being reminded of why I stopped. I relate very much to what you talk about and agree with you. It is possible to stop drinking, with the right mindset and the right help. I found the right help that was good for me:at first intense individual therapy for a very long time years infact, which helped me understand myself and the reasons for why I drank, and then I had to want to stop, for me that was the first step, wanting too, as I was always aware that my drinking was detrimental to my mental and physical health, however that didnt stop me, what stopped me was making the decision to go into rehab that focused on the methods of psychological thinking but there are many different groups out there for anyone who has realised they have a problem and have made the decision to stop. Such as AA NA or addiction counceling, there are different methods that can help and suit one individually. That was the one that worked for me. It hasn't been easy but it's been worth it, and one of the best decisions I ever made, Thank you for your honesty. Brilliant video. Your an inspiration.

I drank to excess the first few times I drank and then never tried to get as drunk as I could and drank much more moderately after that, and I drank less and less as I got older. Later in life it started to give me rebound insomnia, especially on a weeknight when I had to get up in the morning. Talking about waking up at 3:30 in the morning just triggered me. It didn't take an excessive amount of alcohol, it just took ANY alcohol and I would wake up, exhausted in the wee hours of the morning and then lie there sleepless for hours until the alarm would ring. Just one of the reasons I quit for good. I sleep better and feel better.

I thought I couldn’t do anything without it. Last NYE I played my first ever sober gig (been playing gigs for over 20 years), danced sober for the first time ever as an adult, wore a dress sober! (Fancy dress Spice Girl) = I couldn’t imagine doing any of those things sober while I was drinking. After the show I drove home (and saw the new year in with my son) and woke up without a hang over, and with no feelings of guilt. It screws with your logic. I’ll never go back. There are so many channels that discourage as some point and I don't understand why. The program has definitely changed my life. I mean if they REALLY BELIEVE that their program works, why do they have to put AA down. Why can't they just stand on their own. Anywho, AAA is changed my life but I like to listen to everyone's experience. Thank you so much! I'm sending your video out video out the 27 friends and asking them to subscribe.

I have battled with alcohol for many years. I am 60 years old. I stayed sober from the age of 23 for about 20 years with the exception of maybe 2 times. Then I started drinking on weekends like I was back where I left off. I have quit several times since, 8 months ... 5 months... Then slowly back at it . It always ends with a night I can't remember getting home. My husband brings me home & acts like it is no big deal. It's a big deal to me. Here I go again. I'm going to stop drinking ... I'm a Christian.not a good example when I drink like that!

Hi Kev, thanks for the vid. I gave up drinking in June for 6 months but made a conscious decision to have a drink a couple of weeks ago. I did it because I’m a very intense, obsessive person and I was feeling that having an occasional drink with my wife and family/friends might actually help me be more balanced with life. After 4 social drinking sessions, I’m questioning my decision to start drinking again and wondering if I only made it to keep my wife, friends and family happy. It’s been a confusing time for me giving up drinking especially having a wife that I love more than anything but who really “enjoys and values” alcohol and associates a good time inherently involving alcohol. I can see both sides of the coin now, I think there are some positives in people drinking together socially, but there’s also a dark side. I think there’s no such thing as totally bad or totally good - it’s always shades of grey and this has been a tough journey trying to know what is the right course for me.

jazzyjok1 - What I have found to be more difficult that quitting is trying to walk that fine line of being a socially responsible drinker without completely relapsing into what you were before. I find myself in a constant battle of trying to hold my addiction at bay while having a few drinks at the end of the day. It takes all my energy and concentration to accomplish this. I am finally realizing that it is not worth all the effort I put into it. Congrats on the 6 months of sobriety, my best effort was only 3 months, and I have been regretting my decision to drink again ever since. It is easier to just stay sober than to attempt to walk that line. Best of luck to you my friend.

@@Steve-KG5LAA I hope you are doing well, 4 years down the road. If you haven't read it, William Porter's book Alcohol Explained really drove home the fact that heavy drinkers just cannot moderate. It's when you accept that reality that you can find peace. I love how the author Esther Lebeck Loveridge puts it: "Abstinence is the solution, no matter the addiction. Moderation keeps your head in the game."

It's been a tough one for me because I've never been a daily drinker and prefer the social aspect of bars more than just the effects of alcohol. But, that's the caveat, leaving that door cracked open just a little bit. Having that "occasional drink," which becomes 6 hours at the bar and trying to recall how much I actually did drink. It's becoming increasingly less fun and I've become a full-on alcoholic on the way. Holding court at the bar is profoundly unfulfilling. All of my wit, charm, and charisma was built to impress people at the bar!?

I rarely drink nowadays. i still get drunk occasionally though. I would like to not drink ever, I would feel really good about that. It is a lot of fun of course, but I hate the hangover, and don't want to kill brain cells.

Day 72 here. I was a maybe 4 to 5 drinks a nite after work type. But partied hard on weekends for 40 years. Cant say it was hard. For 2 hours a nite id crave the shit out of it but id just go work out or clean house. Hardest thing for me is the social aspect. All my friends drink. My culture, blue collar workers, we drink few beers after work. But to go and drink water or decafe.. sucks. Still does. I love beer, but hated being out of shape with a gut coming on. Feeling like shit every morning. So I do get better sleep. My mind, Cant say ive had some huge revolution of clarity or anything. I did drop 20 lbs. Ate better, more rested, Seems to give other parts of body chance to heal.. ( former pro athlete have alot of busted shit, screws, plates etc etc. Biggest thing for me was to show myself I could do it. I do feel better. Better example for my grandson and my friend has cut way back since I stopped. But I miss it no doubt. From 15 to 55 I drank every nite almost. But got real bad last 5 years. Dad was a drunk. I didnt want to go there. More Pride I think then anything else. But 1 day at a time goals I set. Not 30. Even broke it down to 3 hrs I dont have to drink when i get home. So damn sure feel better physically and about myself I reckon. Its very doable. Not as hard as we think. You can do it!

11 months sober. I got a chance in between to have alcohol on few birthday parties but pandemic gave me a reason not to go to that parties. I hope I will maintain this even after pandemic ends.

I have a weird question (probably not a new one) is it bad to try to quit drinking and smoking cigarettes at the same time?

That's what I did on January 20, 2019. One kinda went with the other, and I knew I wanted to get rid of both. It's rough, but quicker. It really depends on the person. Do what you need to do, as long as you get it done. That's what matters

@@Hello_Ladies Thank you for the advice, and congrats on both to you! I'm thinking of doing both at the same time, like you said, rough, but quicker. I was smoking today and thought, YUCK... too many.. I think I'm ready!

I drank practically every day for 30yrs. Never had negative thoughts just all of a sudden lost interest in it. I still drink every once in a while, like today to celebrate Bidens victory.

@@colinj5291 Still better than trump, everything else due to the pandemic. NO! I voted for neither, as a political science major just appreciate a real politician, rather than a Fraud, Grifter, Scammer, Narcissist, and pretty much a worthless human being. Also a rapist.
