Unless you’re a student or travel every day (and thus need to carry it around with you all the time), get the 16”. You spend so much more time looking at your screen than carrying it around, as someone pointed out below, and the screen real estate makes a huge difference. Now if you need to carry it around every single day several times, such as during a long crowded commute or running between classes, then get the 14”.

Something not pointed out here is that the 14" will sometimes (under heavy loads) thermal throttle after a few minutes and the 16" will absolutely plow through everything at the absolute max performance for as long as you need it to. The air flow is better in the 16", bigger fans too...

I've had the 14" for almost a week now and I've been editing on Davinci Resolve Studio and I am so shocked at this laptop. I've been a Windows and Samsung guy for about a decade now but the latest iPhone 13, Apple Watch and MacBooks made me switch. I honestly can't even fathom how Apple put this much power, efficiency and battery life in such a small form factor. I'm not even joking, I literally cannot understand how. All of that without ever heating up, throttling (while on battery mind you) or kicking fans on. I can easily edit a 10-15 minute 4k vlog on this without even being plugged in. Just set the laptop on my lap while I'm in bed and go to town. I still have my desktop because I also like to game and there are way more options on Windows for that, but I haven't touched my PC in the week I've had my Macbook lol. Hats off to Apple and hats off to YOU Matti, how you edit with trackpad will forever be a mystery to me 😂.

@Step bro I was on the S10+ before I got the 13 mini. There's still soooooo much that I miss about my Samsungs and just Android in general, but it's just little stuff really. One thing that annoys me about the Macbooks though is, sure, they have a lot of ports again, but WHYYYYYYY did they not at least put ONE type-a port 😭😭😭😭😭.

My girlfriend bought an M1 Max Pro and I edited several weeks with DaVinci Resolve. It was amazing compared to my old Windows PC. So much more Power and so quiet. Hard to believe. Then my new Windows PC arrived... After a few weeks I switched completely to my Desktop PC. Ok it is not a fair comparison between Laptop and Desktop. But price was almost the same and the PC is so much faster in editing and rendering as M1. Anyhow, I am more impressed than ever what Apple developed. My conclusion is if you want to edit everywhere you can do it easily with M1. If you want more Power and speed in editing for the same price stay at Windows at least what I experienced.

I have a side business as a professional videographer and therefore I use editing excessively. The main differences I notice are that all the footage imports into the project slightly faster and also really never have any micro stutters during playback. I had those with the M1 from time to time. Basically, exporting is pretty much the same speed, but with more effects (especially AI based features) the AMD card shines. However, I expected that, since the graphics chip is quite a big deal. I mainly edit 4K footage with H.264, H.265 and AppleProRes codec. Maybe the AMD card can handle those codecs better, but I don't know enough about codecs to make a good statement. Same workload on the 16" it sits at 65c with max fans or i can run variable custom curve and sit about 2500rpm (30-50% fan speed) to hover around 75c. Is the 16" way way better? Yes it is but the 14" isnt bad for such a load when it COULD hit and sustain 100-105c workload once in a blue moon yet it never happens and be fine. Its all about your workload and i believe 99.9999% of people dont use them anywhere near this peak. Even if they do, i can do the same on a windows machine with a gaming laptop 12th gen intel chip or 6000 series ryzen i also have on hand and end up hitting 95c and 90c sustained in a 14" and 16" respectively with wildly throttled voltages and absolute maxxed out fans triple the sound and annoyance. Finally, Apple Inc. finally unveiled the MacBook Pro with featuring M2 Pro and M2 Max. Can you do the same as this video coming on January 24th or later?

I think the pound extra of weight is worth it for the 16" screen and power, being able to deep dive into edits on the road.

Just Ordered the 16 in M1 Max and I can’t wait to see what they’re capable of! Had to have the extra screen real estate 🙌🏽 great insight! Thanks Matti!

24GPU or 32GPU? I have ordered the M1 Max 24GPU Cores Edition. Why? I'll get the M1Max Media Engine performance but also a decent graphics performance. Of course I'll get the 16" model.

It's quite funny when you say that the 16-inch MacBook is large and heavy. It's the same size as the previous 15-inch MacBook (2020 and earlier), with no difference in size. As for the weight, I'm glad it's not made of creaky plastic.

my 2nd tier 14 inch m1 pro is faster than my 16 inch intel i9. Its crazy. Davinci, Final Cut are crazy fast. My music production programs work under rosetta pretty well. Happy AF with my choice

I’m not so sure that is the best computer for editors after see the last presentations from Intel, AMD but I fully agree that are very nice computers.

Great video as usual! Love that you want to help out the in the creator space here on KZbin as well. My biggest pain point is two-fold: 1 - creating multiple streams of income to supplement dry seasons and 2 - learning how and when to build a team. Also. I'd definitely get the 16 inch for the extra screen real estate.

Currently, using a 13inch from 2013 to edit. I think I am going to upgrade to the 14inch instead of another 13inch after reading and see all the reviews. This 13 inch wasnt meant for video editing in 2022 with 4GB RAM.

Great vid Matti. Just an observation : there’s a ton of crackly distortion on your voice throughout. Either from the mic level being too hot or something in the post like a limiter.

Spent 1500 on a custom built desktop 2 years ago. Still don't regret it and it easily gets the job done. So I don't need a laptop yet. Also, I'm not much into Apple so I'll stick with my Windows PC. Other than that, great informative video, keep it up.

I got the 14 for the reasons you described. The fact you can spec out the 14 the same as the 16 is the big upgrade over previous generations. I had the 2019 15 and back in the day the old 17 model. The 14 really hits the sweet spot for travel without sacrificing performance.
