@@ApriliaRacer14 I've only had the pleasure one time. I've grown up in the outer Banks of North Carolina. When I was right around 20/21 yrs old, Kelly was in town for some event And I was surfing this big south swell that had just pushed into Buxton out at the third groin and all of a sudden that SOB paddled out into the lineup with us. I'll never forget that. He surfed with us for about an hour and a half or two. There was probably about 30 of us maybe 40 of us in the water. He spoke to everybody he could. What are the most humble and nicest men I've ever met. The winds had just came around from the southeast to the southwest early morning and it was overhead to about 4 ft overhead and just peeling long rights. For those who don't know Buxton is a point break. So this would have been either 2006 or 2007 and I remember having a 3-2 on so I would say it was probably October.

@@Ck-zk3we seriously. But when your dad’s an ex pro you end up knowing how much work it’s going to take to make it. But honestly I can’t think of anything more fun than surfing for a living. If I could go back, I’d give my 10 year old self a surfboard for Christmas and tell my mom to make my dad let me surf! I always boogie boarded in the summer but I didn’t start surfing till I stopped playing baseball in college at 22. My dad said it would ruin my arm…

Jackson is a super talented kid for sure.I have him as the best under 16 year old in the world right now.Perhaps best under 18 in the world.We will never see another Kelly Slater.Kelly at this age was already being touted as future world champion.Kelly had the most expectations of any surfer in history.And not only did he accomplish the expectations set on him.He crushed every expectation and exceeded them by a mile 11 world titles when 4 was the record before Kelly
@rksnote96354 ай бұрын
Kelly didnt have to prove himself a second time in a surf off at tressles. Look at what its done to Carissa, robbed her of 2 titles even though she had the most world tour points...which in the old days means a title. All in the name of corporations.
@petecabrina4 ай бұрын
The other difference is Kelly was a clear stand out back in the day, this kid isn't compared to what is around these days and the level of a lot of the pro's. I wish him good luck but claiming he is a future world champ is a big call, will take a lot to just break top 10 and he will have to develop a lot still.

Love it when you see a sport move on. he's flicking that board around like it's a skateboard in backyard pool, keeps one feeling rad just to watch, You can feeeeeel Martin Potter going yeah, that's what i started and was expressing in my day!! But also there's moments of classic surfing in there to as well which is great for the sole. Somebody has already written it earlier but if feels like a young Kelly at Cocoa beach with the world watching, waiting and knowing that he was feeding from Curren and would eclipse him probably sooner than later . looks like its all about to happen again ! May even cause a riot 😉

Knowing what goes into building a Champion, I show this to my 5 year old, I tell him he'll never be a World Champ. No doubt many kids have the potential, but realizing that potential is determined by so many other factors, mostly beyond our reach, beyond our finances, beyond our living situation and beyond our social circles. Jackson has all the connections and all the opportunities, and the heritage, and certainly he's psyched and highly driven. Some might suggest I should believe in the full potential of my own Son and give him every reassurance, but I think it's best to be realistic.

If Jackson follows the most important influence Kelly can offer, he will be set because the talent is there. Kelly has seen far too many talented surfers take the party road, many still rip the Brevard County coastline, but that ripping doesn't pay the bills. All due respect to the rippers I speak of. All the best Jackson, keep that rail to rail throwing the tailslide. That is the secret recipe.

Hey listen it's nice when your dad is Shane Dorian and has had you in the water your entire 12 years of life. He's got the genetics he's got the coaching and he lives exactly where he's supposed to be to become great. But again I'm going to have to say and repeat what somebody else said I don't think there's ever going to be another Kelly Slater the dominates the surfing tour as much as he did . I don't think you'll ever see anybody surf as long as Kelly did in the WSL. I think so many of these younger kids can make money and get that Fame from different Avenues now then just the world surf League. The unique thing about surfing 2 is that unlike other sports you're not ever going to find a guy that gets burned out from doing surfing make it burned out doing the tour but he doesn't get burned out playing the game like some other sports do.
