That screw in iron fence post is for barbed wire during WWI, it is over 100 years old and worth more than scrap that's for sure, local museum might be interested

That cool piece is a piece of history. "Original WWI Barbed Wire Screw Picket Stake" "Original Item: Only One Available. Found by a digger in France in the 1970s this is an iron picket used to string barbed wire entanglements, famously used in WWI, but also in WWII. A bar could be pushed through one of the loops to screw it into the ground, and then the barbed wire would be strung through the loops. Also known as corkscrew pickets and silent pickets (because they were screwed in instead of driven with a mallet), and were made as early as 1915. Iron construction measuring approximately 45 inches in overall length. A hard-to-find piece of trench warfare history." The photo looks exactly like the one you found. Way to go! Robert, you have an eye for unique and historic artifacts. This is one.

It is amazing to see the transformation that has happened these last two years on the farm. From totally wisteria infested inferno to this. Along the way you have so kindly shared bonfires, demolition, rebuilding, planting, discoveries and so much other stuff in between. Thank you for your very entertaining work Robert!

The metal post that you showed at time mark 10:20 with the corkscrew end and pigtail loops ( i.e. also known as a gauge siphon tube shape ) is the type of metal post that was used in World War One to support barbed wire in front of the trenches that were occupied by the soldiers.

Those rods you found with the corkscrews at one end and pigtail bends in the middle (timestamp 9:25) were used to quickly erect and remove temporary fences. I was surprised to see them on your farm because their original purpose was for armies in WWI to quickly erect barbed wire barricades in the no-mans-land between the trenches on battlefields.

I can't imagine you doing all that work without that great orange tractor. I hope you can find or borrow some kind of a rake attachment to help with the wisteria. Caught a glimpse of some green grass in the front of the house, and it looked so pretty.

Hi Robert, The spiral iron stake you found is a WW1 Barbed Wire Holder. They would use these to construct barbed wire fences around their trenches. Twist the stake in the ground and run the barbed wire through the curls.

When I put my camera on time-lapse I get the same work done as at normal speed. The mud and muck where you worked today may be your complaint. Tuesday the 14th it was 60 with a nice soaking spring shower in Omaha. Today it is 21 with seven inches of fresh snow. Wait a minute, it'll change.

"Let me get this tractor 'unfenced wrapped up' " I love creative grammar. It certainly described the situation the tractor was in! If you haven't tossed it out, I would definitely hold on to it and add it to the interesting stuff you're finding around there. It almost looks like a piece of art!

It is amazing to see the “old Byrd Farm from another angle from where you we’re standing. won’t be long we’ll be able see from all sides. Seeing those nasty wisteria vines, why can’t you get your chain saw on them? Some are pretty thick. That way maybe you could get the tractor in there easier. Just a thought. Hey, that makes sense about that steel bar you found. Using it as a fence. Just twist it down into the ground n run your wire. It’s all looking good Robert. 😊♥️👍👍👍👍🐶
@nbiggs3718

That twisted piece of steel with the screw type bottom on it is an older type steel post. It has 4 loops on it to string 4 rows of barbed wire on it. You twist it down in the ground then hang your wire.

Those two pieces of wicked scrap metal that you found would make cool yard art. I can see how one could get started trying to clean up metal debris, then get totally distracted by wisteria when you try to dig up the metal. You've made great progress. The amount of wisteria must seem overwhelming at times.

It might be a good idea to carry an ancient .22 rifle with you when gathering up old sheet metal like buckets, tubs, refrigerators and so on. A well-placed shot assures each one is really and truly dead. No sense in shooting old tires, though, you can’t kill those! Great video, as always.

It is lovely to see the little daffodils appearing through all the undergrowth. They were probably planted by your grandma or great grandma. In Glouster, Va. the daffodils in the old wooded areas, were planted back in Civil war days. The ladies sold the flowers to help make money back then for their kitchen needs. Thanks for sharing this clearing. I think you are right about the twisted metal things being for fencing. I hope you find more of them so you can maybe fence off a wee space with them as novelty piece. Have a Blessed day.

Oh yeah, Robert!!!! 💪💪❣️❤️👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

G'day Robert, that piece of metal with a screw at one end is more interesting than you think. It was invented by the British in WW1. Soldiers who wanted to string barbed wire in front of their trench at night, could not use a hammer to drive the support posts into the ground. The noise would alert the Germans that British soldiers were out of their trench and the Germans would shoot at them. They would put a bar through the top loop and two men would quietly screw it into the ground. The small twist loops held the strands of barbed wire. Every army copied the design.
