yeah, that's a bit funny! russians watch english video, series, films, interviews a lot. even if the video has russian subtitles, we still hear an english speach so we just copy it when we speak.

Actually it happens naturally, cause we just kinda bring our slang into language when speaking. For example, we have a word 'teepa'(типа) which we use all the time and in English it will be 'like', 'kinda' and 'sort of'. And we have lots of words for 'you know what I'm saying', for example 'ponimaiesh'(понимаешь), 'dogonyaiesh'(догоняешь) and so on. So we kinda just translate our slang. But the funny thing is we do use lots of your slang (cause we watch eng youtubers, films, shows etc.), but we don't know what slang is considered to be 'black' for example. Or we can mix 'mate' and 'dude' and stuff like that Oh, btw, some of your slang and usual words we already use as ours, for ex. 'okay', 'lol', 'lmao', 'dead', 'fake', 'fail', 'edition', 'come on', 'fxxk up', 'make up', 'forever' and many-many more. I'm not even mentioning 'fxxk' which we use nearly as often as 'bl**t'

Since English is not my first language, I can truly say that speaking is way harder than expressing your thoughts by writing. It takes a couple of seconds to prepare your phrase, set the words in right order etc. Also it’s about the psychological part while you’re speaking with native speaker, you become kinda nervous about not making mistakes, misspellings and looking stupid in front of him. It comes with practicing and I really enjoy speaking English with others who can understand me

@@KenWhitson777 of course from Russia. Moscow. Sometimes I think, what simple American think about people in countries, where was your army? Are they happy? Do you remember, what said Madlen Albright about death of 50 thousands children in Iraq? And segregation, oh , how could Americans used another door in bus for the people with another colour of skin?In 50-60, after we together brought nazism? When I was a child, we read a poem about little boy, who can't visit school, because he's "black,". The author is russian writer Agniya Barto. All the students in the class were crying . We couldn't understand, how it is possible? Our culture are very different. It's not easy to you understand russians and for me to understand you. From me, i can tell you, that russians don't hate american people, even you believe, that you are "master of the world"☺️But we was blind, that believed to usa government.

Actually it’s hard to estimate the level. When I was studying in new york, before I got a test, and I considered myself as upper intermediate. But according to the test I was sent in proficiency group, cause I knew grammar well. But I had lack of speaking. Imo these levels does almost nothing. There are several abilities in any language: reading writing listening speaking. You can have one of them excellent but another not so. In not native country it’s harder to develop speaking. Other options you can study by yourself. KZbin is great thing considering listening.

You're probably not being serious, but people do overestimate the importance of colloquial stuff like that. You can easily learn it from a song or a few cursory conversations on the internet. E.g., I still recall how someone was commended on sounding "near-native" for saying "I did it for the lulz". Nobody talks like that any more, but back then it seemed cool to native speakers. They have no clue.

A key difference between Russian and English grammar is that Russian is heavily dependent on word endings (cases and verb endings), but it is possible to shuffle the sentence's word order around very freely; English, on the other hand, relies on word order to mark roles in a sentence and has few grammatical endings (inflectional affixes) Examples: In English, "The dog bit the cat" ≠ "The cat bit the dog" In Russian, "Соба́ка укуси́ла кота́" = "Кота́ укуси́ла соба́ка" ≠ "Кот укуси́л соба́ку" = "Соба́ку укуси́л кот" (same meaning as the above phrases)

It isn't a fair comparison. Russian is considered to be the second hardest language (with Chinese being the most difficult) for a foreigner to learn (and with the quality of our education system - for a native speaker as well), whereas English is one of the most learner-friendly languages in existence (though considered more difficult to learn than German, funnily enough). Actually, the Cyrillic alphabet is not that hard. Most letters can be translated directly. It takes a little bit of time, but it’s more like a smaller challenge :). There are much bigger ones in Russian. The thing with the grammar is correct. But if you’ll start to learn it, you’ll notice also many similarities, because they’re both Indo-Germanic languages. (Of course, to learn English as a Russian is still pretty hard, so also probs from me👍) And cool to hear you’re learning German :D. Viel Erfolg (much success!)

Find it amazing how people in Europe can speak English pretty well (even when they don't think so) and most Americans don't know any other language but English unless they come from a family of immigrants.

@@sambell2152 I don't think many non-English speakers really need to know English. They are many non-English speakers that don't speak any English and are doing fine. It just opens up more opportunities. Just like an English speaker trying to learn another language.
@justrd9
@justrd9 4 жыл бұрын
@@sambell2152 I completely agree with you but at least from where I'm from learning a second language would have benefits as well. More pay, more likely you won't get fired and more job opportunities. There might be more incentives and opportunities for non-English speakers but my point is the same applies to English speakers as well.
@justrd9
@justrd9 4 жыл бұрын
@@sambell2152 Wasn't really comparing. Just saying that there are incentives and benefits to learning another language if you're an English speaker. In New York many jobs require that you speak another language besides English. Especially a language like Spanish. As a Social Worker, I would have more job opportunities and higher pay if I spoke Spanish.

Once I was walking from the institute and a guy approached me and tried to ask for directions. At first he used a translator, but I said something like "It's okay if we switch to the English?". He was a student from India, I think. Unfortunately, I didn't help him a lot, cause he asked about the alcohol bar nearby (it was about 14:00). Nevertheless, I was glad that I was able to keep up the conversation and was excited for the rest of the day 🙈 P.s I'm Russian, from Krasnodar
