I've always felt is seemed weird that each new warp factor was considered a barrier. Ie. Warp 2 barrier or warp 3 barrier. Considering the only real world equivalent is the Sound Barrier, it seems silly. Once you break the sound barrier, isn't just a matter of structural integrity and G forces?

It’s a way of celebrating significant versus incremental progress… consider the two follow possible series of headlines June 6 1952 breaking news Mach 1 broken June 12 1952 breaking news Mach 1.001 broken Etc etc etc Now consider June 6 1952 Mach 1 broken May 14 1954 Mach 2 broken … Incremental progress looking like no process at all because the news comes so frequently that the progress feels insignificant

So I'm wondering in the earliest part of the 22nd century before they broke warp 2 were many of the warp ships also sleeper ships? I figured it would be like what we see in the Aliens universe since the ships still took months or years between star systems.

The saucer + nacelle design aesthetic was presumably designed to maximize warp field efficiency or something, right? Is there a reason why all these different races can seemingly achieve similar performance with such different designs, (besides real-world coolness factor and such)? It'd be interesting if there was a common design that started to emerge from all the different races...

Something I've always questioned (off topic, I know): if the Enterprise has the saucer separate from the Engineering section, does this mean that all ship systems are duplicated for each section? Does the saucer have a warp drive? If not, they are going nowhere fast. Does the Engineering section have impulse drive? Seems like it would be necessary or why have it at all? I've looked over blueprints and I don't see the redundant drives anywhere, not to mention the fact the saucer doesn't have its own warp core and associated fuel containment. Thoughts?

While i like it i think, the NX-01 series actually got its refit with alien tech first. As they were able to strap a secondary hull on it for engineering and system upgrades... From there they learned what worked and didn't work, what tech's were compatable... and then used selected techs from there to refit the smaller intrepid nx class.
@TriAngulumAudioStudios2 жыл бұрын
Sadly Beta Canon disagrees with you, and even though Beta Canon is actually meaningless, it still trump personal opinion and wishes :(
@jenniferstewarts48512 жыл бұрын
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios Oh i know, and yet. the Nx-01 refit which began just after the founding of the federation, seems to say that it was those ships... that got the refit first. While a model of it actually appearing on screen in picard would make the 01 refit partly cannon... The idea that the intreped class got a refit after it, and due to its much smaller side, and having to choose between systems, didn't recieve all the upgrades of the NX-01 BUT instead got the ones that worked, such as food/mater re-sequencers (not replicators. Those just helped with some raw materials which could then be cooked). but not things like the Vulcan Tractor beam. Though andorian shields were likely added but cause the same interference with the deflector array so couldn't be used all the time.)
@TriAngulumAudioStudios2 жыл бұрын
Actually you are incorrect... The NX Refit happened during the Earth/ Romulan War, starting with the Columbia... And testing out new technologies on Smaller more expendable vessels actually makes far more sense then on a ship of the line... But of course, it all deosnt matter as Beta Canon is again clear about this! :)
@jenniferstewarts48512 жыл бұрын
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I know its beta cannon. Don't worry. I just never saw or thought the little ships had the power needed for the new tractor beams and shields. that was the whole point to the secondary hull on the nx refit. most of the new tech was put in there, with a new larger reactor to power everything. course, when you have tv series books saying different things... it gets confusing LOL. Heck trip tuckers fate is confusing enough... with some books saying the whole holodeck death of him, was faked and false information later on, as he was recruited by section 31.
