The Donnager was always my favorite ship in The Expanse (sorry Rocci). The sheer middle-finger-energy the class exudes on multiple occasions being overwhelmed in battle but refusing to die just ticks all the right boxes for a spacefaring warship to me!

I love the Donnager class. Such an awesome hard-ish sci-fi design for a Battleship. I've always had a soft spot for ships that carry other ships. Just makes a lot of sense to be able to bring your escorts with you while benefiting from ye Olde square cube law

Great video. I got into the Expanse just in time for the show to end. It quickly became one of my favorite sci-fi properties up there with Star Trek, Babylon 5, and Battlestar Galactica.

This is an awesome video. I just finished rewatching The Expanse. It is hands down one of the best science fiction shows ever. And the books are amazing as well. I hope they do come back and cover the remaining books of the series down the road. This was a great video. And the quote at the end definitely hardcore expanse fans would get it 🙂. Props to you for starting your foray into other science fiction franchises with the best one that's been put out in the last 15 years. For those who are not familiar, the expanse is a well written, well acted, comprehensive universe with no political agenda attached. (even though it's all about politics within the universe). If you are not familiar with it I would strongly advise not only watching the entire show but reading all the novels. It also represents the best example I have seen of how to do diversity without beating you over the head with it. The diversity of the cast is completely organically natural to the narrative. This is hands down the best dramatic serious science fiction show on TV since Battlestar Galactica. Thank you for this.

I *LOVE* "The Expanse", so yeah, I would LOVE to see more Expanse related content...maybe you could do the Rocinante/Tachi next!? There used to be some "VR" 3D views of the ships from The Expanse on KZbin, when it was still on SyFy...maybe they have been saved somewhere. SyFy was *so* stupid to cancel this show! I hope that later in when some time has past, and the cast has time to age up, they can pick up the last few books after the big time jump that I have heard happens...

I meant to comment on this when it was published but I forgot which means this will probably never be seen, not the end of the world. I wanted to say, GREAT STUFF! The Expanse is/was utterly brilliant. The quality of the writing and story has resulted in Discovery and Picard becoming unwatchable to me. The Expanse showed what it is possible to achieve with televised science fiction and they had a far smaller budget than the aforementioned Trek shows. I am watching and semi-enjoying Strange New Worlds but every week, after each new episode, I turn to my partner and say "I miss the Expanse". As for you doing more content related this show, I say DO IT! You many not get the same number of views but if you love the show then making more content related to it has to be a win for other fans and that is who you are making content for. Thanks for jumping into content for this great, great show!

You know what, I'd really like to see this with Homeworld ships, and those rendered in detail in spaceengine. XD Homeworld ships look really damn good in spaceengine, and there's a decent amount of lore behind at least the Kushan and Somtaaw ships.

i like they went a different design for ships than most sci-fi and not having FTL but ive an issue with the designs for most of the ships they put their weapons of the front but have to swing round to slow down meaning your weapons are facing the wrong way so why not add some thrusters at the front to slow down and have a blast shield cover them so they don't get damaged once the deceleration burn has been completed

In the expanse universe tonnage made a difference as well. You saved a lot of mass by only having the one main thrust unit. As there were no artificial gravity or inertial dampening systems the ship itself had the decks laid out to allow for downward acceleration. A bow mounted drive unit would throw everyone into the roof. In the case of the Donnager the main close quarters weapons were the rail guns and they were mounted so that they could be rotated and have a significant firing arc. In the expanse universe, it wasn't until the protomolecule armor came in to play that armor had any real effect on things like PDC fire. Bullets travelling at 1000s of m/s travel through star ships like a finger through wet toilet paper. Having a smaller target profile was a much larger advantage which is why the Rocinante had so much success being such a small ship.

Tri, this was a really great video, the Donnager Model looked stunning, loved the amount of detail it showed. So cool that you’re willing to expand into other sci-fi shows, so I can’t wait until you eventually do Babylon 5 and personally if you’d be inclined to do the Terran Dominion battle cruisers from StarCraft. I think the ship models would look fantastic on that software you use. Keep up the good work 😎👍

Stepping into a new universe? Awesome. Think I can say that the ships in this one are interesting since they're based on Newtonian physics rather than traditional sci-fi and could be what we may see in the future. That said from going through the first book, Leviathan Wakes, there is a warp drive sort of. Though they just speculate that it's a frictionless system if memory serves and the thing that used it wasn't a ship. Should be interesting to see what other universes you have in mind to look into.

I’d like to note, however, that the books and show actually form slightly different continuities - nothing that pertained to this video, but it’s worth noting that certain ships are exclusive to one or the other and that some specific ships, like the Thomas Prince, are of a different class in the show than in the books.
