Another pro tip: To make friends with Lithuanians, learn some basic Lithuanian words, we love if someone makes an effort to speak our language. Might see some of those reserve people smile even.

Cold/unfriendly because we are a bit selective and have a bit trust issues as a whole nation, lol, but once you are in, you will be treated as a family member and a dear friend. Of course there is always a bad apples between us but once you click with on lithuanian you got a bro or sis for life. We value family and friendship above anything else and often good friends we cherish even more than cousins. If you are respectful and learn basics lithuanian words a few of them, then you will get a lot easier and quicker along with is. We love how strangers try to pronounce simply words, its so cute. Most lithuanians that lives in a city knows a second language dnglish or russian,but a lot of lithuanians can speak a third language too, it just depends where they like to travel or what culture they are into so thats why you can find spanish, italian, germany, japanese language speaking people. We are pretty narrow minded and open minded nation at the same time: we are open to try new recipes, flavors, drinks, make friends, travel, try new business ideas and products but we are slower to let new system in or change a bit traditions, laws, thats why hystoricaly Lithuania were the last pagans in Europe and to let in christianity. Even with christianity our ancestors still managed to incorporate old traditions and believes into new faith. Also try to explore other places like Vilnius and Kaunas as we have a lot of greenary, national parks and in Moletai there is observatory for astronomy so you can stargaze and have an explanation on latest news and sky itself. I think it cost 7 euros for an adult on weekdays and you have to register for it a few weeks before. You can choose a day or night visit and night visit usually needs registration. They let people in just when a sky is very clear or there is a little bit of clouds. Nida too is worth exploring when a weather is good. Rumsiskes is near Kaunas so you can explore a museum under open sky as it shows old wooden houses and show how lithuanians lived in the past, how they crafted candles and et. There is also Anykščių šilelis with Punktuko stone and Anykščiai, a beautiful place that was written beautifully by our one of the most famous poems Antanas Baranauskas, this poem children has to learn in school. A place visited by a lot of lithuanians but less from foreigners so please try to make friends with lithuanians and ask them where to visit or go, where you can go fun. Of course Trakai is fun, but Lithuania is not just Vilnius and Trakai.

What? Nothing about history? Lithuania is a Baltic state geographically but its ties to the Slavic world are strong indeed. Modern Lithuania is a relatively new state, while historically, Lithuania was mainly inhabited by eastern Slavs, governed by Polonised Lithuanians and later by Russians. Regrettably, this video is gross oversimplification.

@@botronas6039 Why bother to go anywhere without a desire to know the place you visit? What's the point of travelling? Silly me. I thought people travel to expand their mental horizons and to find out how other people live. Otherwise why would you go to a foreign country?
@botronas60392 жыл бұрын
@@MK-lm6hb For the beaches? The views? The food? I knew people went to other countries to see foreign cultures, but i dont think its the primary reason. Personally i have never travelled to a place to see how people live there. Also i love how condescending you are.

@@botronas6039 What? Do you think that Lithuania is unique in having the beaches and the views and that the local food is totally different from Polish or Russian food? I travel to understand the place I visit. What is your motivation? I'm genuinely interested. I've never been to Lithuania but if I ever go there my motivation will be to hear the language, to talk to people, to find out what they think about their past, to see to what extent Vilnius is Polish and Jewish, and to confront my knowledge of the place from books with reality. I must admit I'm irritated by superficiality and oversimplification of videos on KZbin. Oversimplification is not that much different from lying.
@botronas60392 жыл бұрын
@@MK-lm6hb Well sure lithuania isnt a very interesting country view wise, but this video wasnt about the history of lithuania, this is just "things to know". Imagine you got a booklet for lithuania, you wouldnt expect the history of that country to be writen there, more so places to visit and just general information, maybe some facts and tips. There are seperate videos on the topic of lithuanian history. I dont understand how including the history of a country in this style of video would even work. The history is long and complex, you couldnt fit it here and do it any justice. As a lithuanian i think that while yes, our history is great, it doesnt mean it has to be retold every time the country is mentioned.
