You are so welcome. I know, many just say Marigolds and the fact that it is only the French is an important detail!

Great to hear, my winter sowing containers won't show anything until it warms here and even though I am in zone 8b too that won't be until late May.

I just wanted to tell you I was having trouble starting my seeds with others recipes. I tried yours and just used compost and perlite and boom, everything started popping up within days ❤😊

I am so glad you found that helpful. I know it has worked excellently for me too and much better than any bagged potting soil and way better than seed starting mix.

I've planted Love Lies Bleeding Amaranthus for the past two years. Year one I had no problem. Year two, the plants were just eaten down to almost nothing by CUCUMBER BEETLES. I asked around and was told to use that as a plant to attract the beetles. The funny thing is that I didn't have it anywhere near the garden and didn't even plant cucumbers last year. I plan on putting in some cucumbers this year and will probably plant the Amaranthus away from the garden again as a trap plant. Unfortunately, they killed all but one of the plants. Never knew there was a creeping Chamomile. We are going to have a super cold week this week here in SW Missouri. I did manage to get 1/3 of the greenhouse cleaned and a shelf up. Also planted a pot of chive seeds.

We are getting more winterlike temps this week. Then we may even see snow this next week. I have a feeling we won't get winter weather until March and April and I will be bured in snow while everyone else across the country will be starting to work in their spring gardens! Many years we have gotten our heaviest snowfalls in Mar and Apr, and continue on through May. I just have to enjoy my greenhouse then and not be too envious.

I'm moving my carrots away from the Dill this year as they didn't seem to get along. Also putting sunflowers in their own bed to see if that makes a difference.

Paying attention to what works and what doesn't along with experimentation is how we all find what does the best for our individual gardens. I am sure you will learn so much from it, I know I do. Doing that is how I found out that gardening by zones is a fallacy.

I hope they work well for you and do experiment with what works best in your conditions. Some things do take trial and error.

Me either and I have lived here most of my life. As a kid, I loved the snow and when I first moved back here from the valley, I enjoyed it still but not anymore. It gets in the way of so much and as I mature I sure do dislike walking on slippery ground. I have a big galvanized can of builders sand I keep on my front porch and I use it liberally when things are slippery.

I wish you success and yes, chemicals are the worst as is synthetic fertilizers. They eventually deplete the soil.

The last few winters were so warm I didn’t need to plant several flowers/herbs-marigolds, petunias, allysum, borage, dill and cilantro. I leave most do their thing. I once unbelievably struggled to grow dill and love the scent so I let it go now. One year a basket of petunias were attacked by whiteflies and never noticed them before. And yes, I’ve noticed dead bugs laying on top of geraniums before and I noticed fungus gnats didn’t bother them or petunias inside. Not sure if the birds find J beetles tasty or not and it was odd we didn’t have many last year. It might be that we set out traps every year away from the garden, but there were a few on the roses. Now just have to figure out how together the geraniums up near the roses-maybe in a pot on a stand 🙌🏼🎉. I have to fence everything so the flower bed is connected the whole length of the garden. I’m to the point of thinking to just quarantine the whole area of backyard to front on at least half of the yard so I can plant freely as the fenced area is full. The vegetation around here is that of oak and cedar and they go after anything that passes the tongue test. And if you have only a couple of something that they test and don’t like they probably mangled it pretty good. I think you hit all the flowers I usually grow. I’m still working on chamomile-it’s a tuff one like the dill use to be. Thanks for the list! We are still in a snow drought and boy was the dirt flying on the 6th. We are suppose to get 1-2” today-we will see😏.

So far, I have only seen one Japanese Beetle in my garden and I was horrified. But I plucked him off and he was no more and I did not see another. I think it came in one of the potted Iris I bought from an Iris Garden I visited. I had thought to repot them and washing all the soil off and disposing of it when I bought them but never got around to it, so it was my bad! I think the pot of geraniums on a stand (I use logs as stands in the garden) would work well. I am going to keep my eyes peeled this year for them. Some have them migrate in from around. We are getting down into the 20's at night now but no snow. After it has been so warm and many things were budding I don't know what kind of effect it will have on them. I will have to wait and see.
