My biggest problem with videos like this is, you are always comparing apples to bananas. You tell me how INFJ act in a certain situation and then you tell me how INFPs act in a totaly different situation. Why don't you tell me certain situations and then tell me how INFJs and INFPs act in this same situation. That way I could figure out what I am. But like this I always think: "Oh this sounds like I'm INFJ - oh but that sounded like I'm INFP..."

Thank you or aknowledging the rebel in INFP, it makes a change. Everyone seems to only talk about the reamer side like we are just airy airy but we are idealists that can see how beautiul the world could be if it wasn't run by psycho's who exploit everything or money. The other thing is making out we all have mental problems,well one reason that we get depressed is because being sensitive and idealistic the world seems cruel when we know how it could be better if people would listen.

Reading this is just like seeing my thoughts. I suffer with depression and when I try to talk to other ppl about my problems they just simply dont understand me, they dont get the pain i feel looking at this world (at the big picture but also at ppl around me) It just hurts me how world can be cruel and unfair and it hurts even more that some ppl dont want to even acknowledge that and they keep doing what they are doing even if its harming and hurtful to others. And when I tell sameone about this and they go "well I dont care about this and you shouldnt either, u cant do anything about this" (Congratualtions u made me feel so much worse) and I just want world to be beautiful place where we all can spread good, it would be so much better place. Actually your comment made my day cause for the first time in sooooo long I felt understood, im so happy there are still ppl that see the injustice in this world and also want a change. U made me smile. Thank you sooooo much.

I was suffering with depression for years-barely hanging on. I had a therapist and psychiatrist but it wasn’t until I got involved in Peer-facilitated mental health recovery and strengths-based wellness groups (and yes there is such a thing as Mental Health Recovery!) about a year and a half ago, that I started feeling better- I feel heard, understood, validated and accepted for who I am. Most importantly I can contribute and help others. I am now trained as a Peer Support Specialist and facilitate groups that teach recovery and wellness tools! My faith in humanity is renewed I used to be afraid of my feelings and what was going to happen “TO me”. Now I am excited about life and what is unfolding FOR me-AND what I bring to the table. 👍 There’s probably a mental health recovery “clubhouse” or other organization in your area. Maybe find it through NAMI. I hate to see people suffer unnecessarily. (And of course as a fellow INFP I love solutions!) “May you be happy, May you be well. May you be safe and sound. May you be peaceful. May you be at ease, with love in your heart and all around.” -Loving Kindness Song.

@@Terrazona929 Thank you soooo much for your help. Im actually not from USA, im from Europe (from not too well developed country). Some time ago I actually reached out for help to the therapist and even when my family tried to stop me from doing that I gave myself a chance. Now I feel a little bit better, i understand myself better and I dont feel like a total freak (i feel just like a regular freak now hahah) I felt hopeless not so long ago but now I feel better and I even started to see future for myself in this world, I try to always look for good things, I uninstaled social media, I stopped to watch tv, I just live in my world and I try to enjoy it. I know it might seem selfish but I just needed to close my eyes for the world and open them just for myself for a while. I cant change the whole world and I know that (sadly) but I can try to change for better my small world around me and thats what im doing. For sure I still get in those darker periods where I feel soooo bad but now I at least now that there is hope and that I will be okay one day. I know there is recovery because Im going through it right now. One more time, thank you soooo much for help and I wish you a blessed day.

I mistyped as an INFJ in the past because I was in a really demanding authoritarian environment where I had to put a lid on my spontaneity, and recently learned I’m INFP. If I’d had this video back then, it would have cleared things up for me much sooner!! The explanation about the one consistent feeling versus the constant adjustment, assessment and adaptation of feelings in the current situation, and the contrast between the long term vision for society versus the goal of living out personal values in every situation were the most obvious distinctions for me. Great stuff! Two great types too.

I took this test years ago & bordered on the "thinking vs feeling" aspect. Now, I'm finding it difficult to "categorize" myself as an INFJ or INFP (so far every test I took the % were extremely close, flip-flopping between J & P). IMO, it's silly to try to put 1 label on your personality, given that there are so many traits that can "blur" at any given point & time causing overlapping to occur in certain areas. However, we must also take into account other aspects such as mental health/wellness, past experiences, etc...I've struggled w depression, prior addiction, indecisiveness, etc and these all make it even more confusing. Anyway, thank you for the explanation (especially the last few minutes explaining growth) 🙂

INFJ here. There are a couple of things I do differently than what this video describes. I'm usually slow to start a project. I spend time thinking about it. I think about how to go about it. I spend time contemplating the how the finished project will look. When I come up with a design, I sit back and wait for another idea to weigh against what I've already come up with. I ask myself if there are drawbacks to the project. I ask myself if it's all worth it. - BUT - Once I've finally decided that I like what's in my head, I get going on it, and stay with it diligently until it's done. My perfectionism won't allow me to do a crappy "good enough" job. When there are things that NEED to be done, I get it done as soon as I can so that I don't have to think about it anymore.

It seems the INFJ is looking for objective truths and goals, whereas the INFP is looking within for answers rather than outside. I think INFP are internally focussed on the now whereas INFJ are externally focussed on the future (and how it relates to the past).

Interestingly if you look at all 8 functions of INFJ- including the shadow functions- they are indeed the INFP's primary functions. (Ni,Fe,Ti,Se,Ne,Fi,Te,Si) So INFJ in shadow is INFP! Maybe that's it. We're doing our shadow side. 🤔
@dianamlv
@dianamlv 4 жыл бұрын
I mean you won't always react to certain situations as "a specific personality" from the 16 ones we use in the mbti, because as humans we can't necessarily be catogorized into one personality. You can use different functions in different situations I might be more extroverted in certain situations and introverted in other stuff (that's the simplest explanation I can try giving that makes sense). What I believe the Myers Briggs helps us in is understanding what we normally are more comfortable doing things in.

O.k....after listening to the whole thing, I still feel I'm very close to being BOTH in many aspects....but still feel INFP is my "natural state"....But I've long since grown out of the disorganization and lack of discipline...I don't think I know anyone more disciplined than I am.....But I WOULD LOVE to just take a long "vacay" and screw off and get nothing done for a couple of weeks...and not be accountable to anyone for anything. It's not like I want to live this way 24/7....I've learned the benefits of self-discipline....but have gone a step further and had to learn the downsides of pushing oneself too hard. Thanks for trying to clear up this question, but no matter how many videos I watch, or things I read, or tests I take...it usually ends up exactly where I've ended up after watching this video....namely, "I'm about 75% certain I'm an INFP....but have been forced by life to become more "rounded out", and thus probably "appear" as an INFJ to the casual observer.
@ErikThor
@ErikThor 5 жыл бұрын
It's good that you can feel INFP is your natural state, and that's the point, P vs J is a difference of who you are in stress, and its a sign of where you show control, and where you show a lack of control. INFPs tend to show a lack of control over their own ideas and vision and feelings.

@@Najd32 I think enough people pushed my "idealism" buttons and made me angry enough that I made it a priority to learn how the rest of the world "ticked" and what it "values" and "why" in order to be taken more seriously. It's a bit like mastering the "credit score game"....(which I've also done)... There's an algorithm that is designed to assess credit risk, based on credit history...debt to credit ratio...number and types of credit accounts...late payments or lack of late payments...etc...and "maybe" it's somewhat effective in assessing "actual" risk in a very broad way across the entire population...but even though my credit score is about as high as it can be, I'm probably no less a risk than many others with a lower score...I've just taken their algorithm and played it to my advantage. (The result is that I get access to better interest rates....better insurance rates, etc.) but algorithms have some serious downsides..They're dehumanizing and often just "wrong"...and they drive me nuts as an INFP....Just as the over-simplified way the world thinks it can extrapolate the general "value" of people, based on certain behaviors ...such as willingness to "play the game" (an often dysfunctional one)..and in the process, seems to be creating boring "cookie-cutter part- humans". Basically, I figured out if you're "winning the game" , it's a lot harder for people to criticize your values and question your ways of doing things.

I have the impression that INFJs are much more active as far as shaping the surrounding is concerned. They take action when it comes to organising meetings, they initiate discussions on how things will and shall be done, they talk about time frames... INFPs, on the other hand, appear much more passive. It is very rarely that they actively try to influence what is happening around them, which is probably due to their adaptable nature. I have never experienced myself as very flexible, adaptable or sponatenous because as an introvert, I often need time to adjust to new stuff and changes in my daily routines can cause me stress when I feel overwhelmed already, but when I started to talk to judging types, I figured out how much they need to shape and structure the world around them to know what they will have to expect that it became clear to me how often I adapt (unconsciously, even) on a daily basis without it causing me any stress or discomfort. Here’s what I say to INFP, “yes that’s me” here’s what I say to INFJ, “yes that’s me”. I’ve watched yt videos and a lot of INFP’s and a lot of INFJ’s and I truly look 50/50. It often overlaps. I do shut down when I feel like other people think what I’m doing or saying is weird. I often question if what I’m doing is the right thing to do. I do rebel at unfairness. I do try to help the underdog. I do ignore rules I think are arbitrary. I do question my motives. I often procrastinate. I do lose track of everything going on around me, and often I’m in my head dreaming about this or that. I’m terrible about planning my time. I’m content when I’m alone and feel no distress about it. And what is the difference between the ability of an INFP and an INFJ’s to accurately read the undercurrent of a situation, to “see” what’s really happening? Which one compromises themselves more? Which one is better at sensing that a person is more than their words reveal? And usually it’s the person is in distress of some kind and is hiding it. I usually don’t know the person. Also, the other way, like when a person has something dark beneath the confident, well liked persona and I may warn someone but people think I nuts until the truth comes out. I’m truly confused about my true type. Is there another way to really know?

Excellent video explaining this Erik Thor!... How you Going explained all the aspects of personality, how we function (or disfunction) during stress and how we function at our best, was so clarifying for me. I really hate all the stupid stereotypes of INFPs that portray us just as being overly-sensitive poets or always in some fantasy land. (Although I do like Haikus and wish I could live on the Enterprise 😁. Everyone seems to miss our sense of humor!). Thank you so much for getting to the substance. I am an INFP at my best right now, inspired by a worthy cause. I am enjoying the experience of what is unfolding and I’m super proud of myself for making all my appointments and being organized and prepared. I like being responsible and that others can count on me. I’ve also learned not to overcommit and leave a lot of room for flexibility and time to rest and regroup. 👍😊💗

My melancholic thing I always carried was wanting to be loved and for the world to be what I wanted for me and everyone else. Two separate things. I focused on how much I wanted to find my soulmate as no one in my life was good for me from birth onward, and I pictured that want In the better vision for the world I wanted to happen as well. I found my soulmate at 20 (not many years ago) and have been able to more focus on what I want to do for the world now since I’ve found love to feel from someone, and not just for them. I was never afraid to die before, but when I found him I realized what it is to have something to lose to keep living for, not just hold out hope for as a motivation to keep living.

INFJ here; mistyped as INTJ for some time. I have leaned on Ti more than Fe. Fe is something I love using when interacting with people I actually want to be around, and something that causes me discomfort (sometimes great discomfort!) when having to interact with people I'd rather not (i.e. bad vibes). One of my occupations is in sales, so I can't walk away either... Still learning! ^_^

Fascinating how deep you can explain someone's soul. I spend big time analising myself and yet so much I can't understand, but you explain it all. Feels like you are reading and seeing right throw me and yet you don't even know I exist, wich leads to the obvious conclusion there's a hole group of people who operates just the same. Interesting perspective, I've always look at myself as an aliens that end up in here for some reason I regret and wanna take back. Are there other aliens then, somewhere, whose mind work exactly like mine? That's interesting. Maybe as much as finally understanding so much of myself that I can't properly classify on me, is this view of maybe not being so alone after all. Your vids either generates a feeling of "it's okay to be who you are" which allows me to breath like "holly fuck, I might not be as fucked up as I was lead to belive" and also a though of "wait, I'm not the only one?" I'm a fucking rock and you can go this deep, can only imagine how many lives you saved by now and don't even know about..

And now that I am in quite a good moment, I'm also experiencing some INFJ traits, like the ability to focus in one long project if it is very important to me. Thank you for you video! Really great stuff. On tests I am usually INFP or INFJ, here I still recognize myself in both groups. I have a lot of different ideas and then I focus on the only one for a long time, however stress put me in INFP. I do believe that it is possible to be both, in a sense that in 55% of situation you will be INFP but in 45 you might react like INFJ , or that someone will act as INFP in 30% and also 70% as INFJ. Like Mayers personality types are extreme (distribution peak) but the people can be in between so combination of two distribution.

Thanks, this was really helpful. I'm pretty certain I'm an INFP and I almost always test as one. I still question it though, and I guess there's a part of me that still hopes I'm not one. But when you pointed out that the INFP is the guy that's bringing the perspective of what could we do differently, or how could we make this better, or hey guys have you seen this, we could do this instead etc. you pretty much nailed it. I love when I can bring that to the tribe and it's when I feel the best. I spend a lot of time thinking about optimization and why things went wrong and how to do it better. I also related to your description of an unhealthy INFP or the INFP under stress. That's exactly how I handle it. I also like how you said the INFJ and INFP can look similar during a growth period as I do see some of those INFJ traits in myself when I'm at my best.

It still is interesting. I did and still do identify as an INFJ, even after double, triple and quadruple checking several times but i DO share many similarities with the INFP type. Some things you said that INFPs want, are also concerns of me. I do value my individualism very strongly and do not bend to rules or expectations that do not allign with my values and morals. As an Aries born, i do not tell people what they want to hear, i tell them what they deserve to hear. I tell them what they need to hear to improve. I usually am brutally honest with what i say and don't think about "how does it not hurt their feelings if i say this?" I ask myself "how do i make my point perfectly clear to them and make them realize what they missed?" After all, i'm not trying to win a popularity contest, i'm trying to better my surroundings and by extension, the world. Just don't get the impression here that i'm always challenging everyone. I'm usually rather quiet, friendly and nice, as long as i have no reason to do otherwise. I'm clearly goal-oriented and have an ADHD-like hyper focus when it's about a task or topic that peaks my interest, and when i have to deal with something i don't have interest in, i often find myself procrastinating and/or dazing off, thinking about completely unrelated things or about my next objectives and whatever. Just cannot for the life of me focus on things that i simply have no interest in. I always need that carrot in front of my nose to move forward. Otherwise, i save the energy for more rewarding activities. :P I have a blooming imagination, everyone around me used to say that when i was a child. Do have a high IQ, too. Sadly, our society didn't encourage my talents at all, they instead did irreparable damage to me and i soon dropped hard and ended up depressed and jobless. My parents were really bad at being parents, too. So naturally, i was set up for failure from the very start. But i got better and now i'm in the lucky position that i do not need a job to survive where i live. I can just go after the activities that i choose and i don't even want anymore money than i need. Money is a bad concept that encourages greed and corruption in the world, imo. If i had too much, i'd give it to the homeless in town or something. Hoarding it does more damage than it does good. I'm happy as long as i have 4 walls and a roof, can pay my bills, my food and as long as i have a running PC with Internet. I always wanted to have kids someday, since i'm the last of my blood who can, but i guess that's it then. Humanity has most likely successfully made my bloodline go extinct. Congratulations. Not that humanity has any need for insightful thinkers like me. They'd rather have another sheep which works hard and never complains than an odd wolf who makes his own decisions and contributions. Or have another greedy, corrupt politician. Yes i know, they are oh so loved by community. I dunno how the world can be THIS wrong that these guys are successful in life, but i get mobbed and almost driven to suicide. I might get a job one day to try getting something going and to actually contribute something useful to society, but that depends on the employer and the work that i'd do there. It's not my fault that they all wanna force me to become a silent cogwheel worker bee zombie, when i'm in fact a fully functioning machine on my own, a renegade killer wasp. I'd rather stay my whole life jobless than become someones bitch and work my ass off doing something i don't wanna do at all. My lifetime is the most precious thing i have and once spent, it never comes back. Thats why i rather use it for something that has value for myself now. They screwed me over, now they pay me and are my bitches instead. I call that compensatory justice. Call me a parasite if you want, i don't care. I'm just a mirror. If you're nice to me, i'll always be nice to you. If you're not, then... your fault.

I test pretty much 50/50 between INFJ and INFP but it typically leans a couple percentages towards INFP. It was really good to listen to you. With everything I've researched I related more to INFJ even though there's a good chunk I relate to with INFP. I think my test results end up skewed due to my struggles with anxiety and depression. I'm not the best at knowing how I feel and am constantly looking to the future instead of focusing on what's right in front of me. I took the test on your site just now and got ENTJ haaaa (the E/I @ 55% and the T/F @ 52.5%). I've tested as ENFP before too. Idk man at least the N is always the same ^^; Tests aren't my forte. XD out of them all I still relate to INFJ most. (I read about the types often to help build characters in my writing.)

Thank-you for mentioning the 4 humors in us all in various orders and amounts being the lowest common denominator for everyone's diversity Phlegmatic the super introvert who keeps an internal record of observing the outside world in the present tense. Melancholy, the ordinary introvert mastermind who keeps an internal record of an internal focus on mind and emotions. 2introverts, 1 outward focus 1 inner focused Big difference here 2 extroverts Choleric, the ordinary extrovert, ready to physically and mentally react to any situation in the outside world they are focused on. Choleric and phlegmatic focused outward on the material world The melancholy and sanguine are both focused on the inner world of mind and emotions. The sanguine by contrast to the melancholy although they too first draw on mind and emotions to decide which extroverted activities would coincide with their inner inspiration in contrast to the other extrovert the choleric activities are reactionary to external conditions, although they use their remaining 3 temperaments less in prominence to be productive and plan for future advancement I think the most important divide is between the material focused phlegmatic and choleric And the internally focused sanguine and melancholy I think the Jewish Pharisees were predominantly phlegmatic and choleric and their opposition the Christ as well as the prodigal son were both melancholy and sanguine in predominance. The phlegmatic choleric want tradition no forgiveness of sins The melancholy sanguine are for change and forgiveness Show me a good finish carpenter and I'll show you a predominance of melancholy sanguine All 4 are of god and have a specific purpose and all can be good spiritual or bad carnal
