Hint. Even the FORESTALL class aircraft carriers were bigger and capable of delivering more damage than the Yamato class - and the Midway class was a hair bigger and capable of delivering more "power" in damage than the Iowa class. But sometimes SPEED matters just as much, and ACCURACY, and RANGE often matters a lot more. The Tsar Bomb does not appear to have been intended as a war-fighting tool - it turned out to be way too hard to deliver and VERY inefficient at damage production. The Maus *might* have been in one battle - and if so, it was overwhelmed by numbers and would have had a VERY inexperienced crew - so it never had a chance to even try to prove itself. On the other hand, the Maus likely was going to be a "big, slow" target for aircraft - that COULD hit it where it was weakest (the top).
@undefined402 жыл бұрын
@@bricefleckenstein9666 Hint 1, the air craft carriers have just own armament sufficient to defend themselves, nothing in comparision with a Battleship. They carry aircraft that in sum outmatch a battleship in firepower (hence the name). You wouldn't count an land located airbase as it's own weapon either. Yes, as a mobile airbase, they are an very effective force multiplier, but they are not a (substancial) weapon in itself. Hint 2, Tsar tank, not the Tsar bomb. Good you watched the vid we are talking here about.

@@undefined40 Land based airfields DO count as weapon systems. No airfield (or carrier), no aircraft launches, refueling (yes, tankers have to take off from SOMEWHERE and be refueled themselves SOMEWHERE), weapon reloading, maintainence, repairs, ETC. Carriers are a tradeoff in that they are mobile, at a cost in lower capabilities, vs a land based airbase. BTW - a LOT of the defense of that carrier is provided by it's own aircraft, and the ESCORTS that always shadow it. A carrier has very little of it's own defense, commonly short-ranged stuff like PHALANX. ex-Ranger (CV-61) sailor.

As impressive as these engineering marvels are, it’s kind of sad we consistently use the greatest minds on Earth to build things that destroy. Imagine if we used the determination it takes to build these machines to advance the human race.

*Fact Check at **8:34* - The ceiling height of the Tu-160 is actually only 16,000 Metres (9.9 Miles = 52,000 feet) so the given information is 1,000 times out. Even a old 1960/70's Avro Vulcan nuclear bomber had a ceiling of 55,000 ft (17,000 M) - So the Tu-160 is not so special in this respect.

At the 8:35 mark, they say the Tu-16O can fly at an altitude of 9,942 miles! REALLY? IS THAT A MISPRINT? 9,942 MILES TIMES 5,280 feet per mile = over 52 million feet, or 1,485 as high as a 747! NO WAY JOSE! The Space Shuttle flew at 700,000 feet!

@@macnof I don't count the Maus as having been in production. There is some indication that it DID see combat, in defense of the factory where it was built vs the Soviets - but the stories conflict.
