1. Pre-trip phase: plan your routes...I always check maps, google earth and such to avoid getting lost. 2. If going on strolls or tours, I walk on a speed walk pace, 10-20 steps I go sideways zigzag pattern. 3. I distribute my money on my socks, hidden pants pockets etc. 4. If lost, I get inside a store and ask the staff. They know the in & outs of the town.

Regarding 4. Private Security will often help, be very polite when asking, if they say they don't know then they don't know (a lot of security don't live in the area they work). Try to understand the flow of people when they walk. Never go against the flow, you will stand out.

Yes, a video on “the gray man” would be helpful. A firearms website talked about this. They mentioned not plastering your car with gun manufacturers’ stickers. Doing so might give a thief the idea a gun may be in an unoccupied car and prompt a break-in.
@nicholashodges2012 жыл бұрын
Same for those armed response signs. Those can also really hurt you in some jurisdictions if you do have to defend yourself. It's a "sign of militancy" (overly aggressive self defense) and can be used in court to nullify self defense. Personally, I don't like to advertise. And as far as that militancy BS, I don't *care* if you enjoyed or were traumatized. That's all you, the important thing is that if it was actually self defense.
@Firesword5342 жыл бұрын
Yes to a Grey Man video! Another tip I would add would be to mentally rehearse what you would do in a given situation. After all proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance. If you've already thought through a scenario multiple times it's a lot easier to put that rehearsal into action. Also practice with the tools you keep on you. Get used to them before you need to use them. The last thing you want to do is be fumbling for something when it's really time to use it.

About backing into a parking spot: One of my first classes when working at Michigan Bell, the rule was to alwas back in and never back out. This was meant for safety. When you first drive up to a parking spot it is easy to view the surrounding area. When getting back into a vehicle we often spend a moment in the vehicle before driving away, which allows for vehicles, pets, and pedestrians to move into blind spots. Driving forward provides a much better field of view.

Good points. Situational awareness is king. When I’m in an area or situation that seems truly unsafe. No close eye contact, look ahead see what’s in front of you and the side. Don’t move your head, move your eyes. Untuck or have outerwear that covers your waist loosely, keep a hand near your back when stationary. If your not carrying,it will give the impression of CC . When people are looking for trouble, they will usually pick the weakest target. It’s almost never one to one. So at least give the impression you can give some trouble back Get out ASAP

On top of not underestimating teenagers, don't underestimate the younger kids (like pre teens or a bit younger) in groups with teenagers. They could be looking to try to prove themselves to the older boys and they can come off even more innocent. They can steal your stuff and bait you to the older group and jump you. And definitely don't put anything in your back pocket you aren't willing to lose. I learned that as a kid from street smart adults who were looking after me. Just never do it if you're in a sketchy area.

Great Video. 1. Backing in always helps you find your car as it is the only one parked that way. 2. Easy tip with backpack. Split keyring through both zippers and it become hard to grab something out of your back pack and run. 3. Small flashlight is good but a "Millwall brick" is better. Rolled up paper tightly and it hard as a brick. 4. If you think you are being followed go into a store, Starbucks, anywhere that there are other people around

My brother has a friend who was walking alone one day and he turned into a street where there were 3 suspicious looking men, so after looking at them he immediately turned back. They ran after him and stole him. A few years later I was walking alone, and as soon as I went up some stairs in the middle of nowhere, there were 3 men smoking, sitting on a sofa they found on the street, and they immediately stopped talking and looked at me. I remembered the story and just kept walking. They didn't say anything, and I arrived safely with a bag of junk food 😂

This is good advice. Important advice my father told me from as early as I could start to understand it is a dangerous world. 2 best tips I used for 6 years repossessing cars for a bank. 1. Do not park, stop for red light, etc. where you can be blocked in. 2. If confronted make brief eye contact, say nothing and keep walking away - do NOT speak just walk confidently away. Even though I was armed, I never pulled a gun in 6 years of doing this work. You are giving advice to many young men who do not have a good relationship with their father. Wonderful work!

Antonio great video. Re the parking I find it far easier to get out of a parking space when I have reversed in. Another tip I'll add is if you are walking and have to cross a driveway and even traffic light junction act as if the drivers have not seen you unless you get a definitive signal they've seen you. The amount of times I've almost seen accidents due to this is unreal. Edit. Just got to end of video and the flashlight tip is an excellent one as well.

If some suspicious stranger asked you for the time just say you don't know and keep walking. They either want to snatch your phone or see your hands as you check your phone/watch to get the jump on you before you can draw a weapon. Keep a hand in your pocket. That's a good tip. Also the backing in to park is top notch advice too.

Something I would add is not to underestimate OC spray. There are companies out there making pretty compact canisters, getting one that doesn't really look like a spray can be nice too. They're not the solution to everything, but they're cheap, they're almost always legal to possess, the legal repercussions of using them preemptively are minimal compared to lethal tools or even fists, and they work against multiple people and dogs. Some people will fight through it, but it's a lot easier to fight someone who's already fighting OC spray in their eyes and lungs. It's not just for women or people who don't know how to fight. It's also still worth considering even if you carry a pistol already.

Me being a 6'3" 230lbs man I don't have much to say... Other then don't be cocky. I don't feel like my size has much to do with it. I have been sized up many times... Getting out of a car look around you, see who people are with and if you see someone walk up to you alone and they were just with someone do not get the person your full attention I act like I listen but I'm truly trying to find their friend they were just with.... Usually standing right behind a trashcan.... Never underestimate anyone even though I am trained and I know how to fight that doesn't mean you can see everything around you. And if you walk next to a group of people keep your head up and hands out of your pocket. If they are sizing you up never put your hands on your pocket they will take it as a sign of weakness. If you absolutely have to fight go for the knees then the face.

Some really useful tips. There are a few more I can think of: 1) It's always great having a local guide. It doesn't even need to be someone who looks like a native. What matters is that he or she knows the place and speaks the local language/slang. It's really amazing how much people change when they notice that you're friends with someone, or yourself know the same language... 2) If you're about to make a delicate transaction, or break up with someone, not all public places are equally suited. There are places with security or security check-ins, or you could go to a place frequented by cops, etc. Cameras alone are not enough of a deterrent. Some people would still attack you in front of cops (happened to me once) 3) I hate to say it, but be very wary of anyone asking for help, or asking questions. It happened to me that someone was asking for directions and his brother tried to sneak up on me, probably to knock me out and then rob me. This happened in a quite busy street! Just the fact that I managed to reply, while walking around him so that I stack both up made him scared! He knew that I knew and he didn't want to see the odds of a fair fight (whatever 2 vs 1 is, LOL, shows you even more how much of a coward most people are) 4) Never expect a fair fight! Criminals want to make money and not duel themselves. They look for easy targets. You don't need to be necessarily the best fighter. Being poor or doing too much work can be good enough. It's hard to scam someone who barely understands the language. This would be an example of being too tedious... The same goes for breaking into a home that has decent security features. On the other hand, being tall, and intimidating doesn't always work in your favour. Some people get an ego-kick from attacking such men and worse: if someone picks a fight with you, expect them to be armed, or gang up on you! This is also particularly true for young delinquents, and women! Only few women can reliably beat the average man, thus those that pick fights do so out of a surprise attack and with an absurd level of aggression! In general, the side willing to go further wins. Most people do not want to murder others. Thus, if someone tries to beat you up and you draw a knife, he'll leave. If both have weapons, but one is fighting without any sense of self-preservation, the other is likely to run off, because he doesn't like to die with his opponent... That's also why acting crazy can help. Criminals want to be in control of the situation and not have an unpredictable situation... 5) Criminals don't think like you. The mere fact that they are criminals should already tell you that they likely think different... Normal people don't commit crimes unless they are really desperate. However, some people commit crimes just to vent their frustration. A neighbour of mine was a not-too-small guy and a bodybuilder. Someone snuck up on him and pulled his T-shirt over his face and started beating and pushing him. He hit him multiple times on the back of the head and behind the ears (which is dangerous) and managed to push him against the railing. He then pulled out the purse he had in his trousers and picked the legs up so that bodybuilder fell 10m down into a strong current while being dazed by the punches and still blindfolded! All that for a handful of Euros! Another neighbour of mine was notorious in the entire country for being a highly active criminal despite even being too young to be held legally accountable. He kept dodging school and robbed kids by distracting them with a question, slapping both their ears, grabbing them to pull the head into a knee strike, hitting the back of the head, and kicking them into the head a few more times once they were on the ground, just to be safe, before robbing them! He probably broke hundreds of noses! Within a year, he had committed well over a thousand criminal offenses from assault, robbery, damage to property, etc. He also forced others to steal for him and crashed parties with his gang to beat up the people and trash the place. That was his idea of fun! Personally, someone tried to punch me into the spine in front of a cop. All I had done to him was to ask him to move, while the traffic cop was waving me over. He ignored me and I pushed past him, which caused him to chase after me and punch me (missing my spine and just scraping me). He still tried to catch up with me while I jumped behind the cop and then started to fight with the cop. All this in front of an entire crowd, a whole military parade, and several other cops...

If you are in a situation where it looks like you're about to get jumped and there's nowhere to run and you're out of options, find wall or a corner to back in to. It prevents you from being king-hit from behind and keeps the thugs in your peripheral vision. Make a fist with your car keys in it, with a key between your third and fourth finger. When they move on you, a key jab can be an effective deterrent, and make a lot of noise while defending yourself to try and attract attention. If you are being followed and have a chance to contact a friend with your phone, keep your phone on speaker to allow you to see and hear your surroundings, and give the details of your location to your friend while walking to your car or to a well lit area with people or security cameras.

The one problem with running is if you're chased by someone faster than you, they'll catch up and then you'll be tired and it'll be harder to fight. Still, fighting 4-5 people is not pleasant. Know your surroundings and have in mind places you can go to safety. These are good pieces of advice.

When parking in a big lot, like the mall, I find a spot that I can drive through to. I end up reverse parked on the other side but don’t have to screw around backing up. A comb makes a great weapon if you have to fight, especially a metal one. So does a metal pen. Keep scanning around you (military people do this automatically) Do a shoulder check every few steps. If you are being tailed, slip into a shop or building lobby. You can call the police from there. You can carry on a fake conversation on your phone using police lingo to shake somebody off. “Roger that. Is Alpha team in position? Ive got the mark in sight. (or “ The subject has taken the bait.” ) Makes you sound official and they won’t know if you are undercover. They can’t hear that there is nobody on the other end. Just avoid the bad neighbourhoods. Why ask for trouble?

9:50 If I'm travelling through a big city (except London - for some reason I kindda trust it as a city) I always carry everything in a hidden pocket. It can be a bit akward now that our phones have become so omnipresent, but my policy is this - everything important hidden away, a few quid (as much as you can afford to loose - I'd say max a twenty) in your pants pocket, so you don't have to reach into your hidden stash every time you make a transaction, and most importantly, never keep anything important in your backpack. You must always be ready to have your bacpack stolen without that causing you to be stranded in a foreign city.

Things I've always said for years: 1) Always have enough bus fare to get home! 2) Get the insurance. 3) Whenever you have an opportunity to eat, charge your phone or use the bathroom, take advantage of it. You don't want to be in a situation with an empty stomach, dead phone or full badder. 4) If you're debating whether or not to bring something with you, remember, it's always better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

About the guy who met a girl, brought her home, and she stayed outside texting, until someone else came by and they left together - maybe SHE felt that SHE was not in a good situation with HIM.
Here's a thought: some survival experts (e.g. Tom Brown) recommend using the "splatter vision" technique of unfocusing your eyes, in order to increase your peripheral vision against threats. Not only is this a practical suggestion on its own, but it will probably create a "snake eyes" effect on your expression that's probably just as intimidating as the "angry" look. Meanwhile, backing into a parking space can reduce access to the trunk (such as when you're grocery shopping), but the "bag on the front" technique can work if you have a sling bag of some kind, like the Maxpedition Gearslingers I routinely wear. Lastly, be careful of the "high-powered flashlight' advice, and be sure to do it right: once, I was carrying a large, black Mag-Lite in my hand, and an unsavory character mistook it for a gun (which I didn't intend). He backed off, but it *could* have gone either way......

He started demanding money for his dinner. I looked up and saw that someone was following picking up chicken that was bumped away from him. I immediately gave the man $10 and told him to get out of our face. He left, but had I been more away, this would have never happened. Safety Tip: true story was held up at gun point in front of my apartment as I was taking out the garbage before heading to work. He asked me for my backpack and my wallet, not much I could have done about the backpack as it had my work stuff (computer, work security badge, etc.), but taking my wallet had real ramifications. Although they caught the guy he ended up having an existing warrant for his arrest for assault with a deadly weapon. Having my wallet meant not only did he have my money (cash and cards), but also my driver's license with my home address on it. The hassle of sitting at the DMV for hours was one thing, but it troubled me that this guy could come back while I'm at work, maybe my girlfriend is home or my kid and hurt my loved ones. Going forward what I do is have two wallets on me : left pocket is a single half wallet type that holds ID, health ins card, AAA card, etc..... Right pocket is a full sized wallet with cash, debit, and credit cards. Should this happen again I know to give them the right wallet, sure I'm giving up my cash but personally I don't carry cash and if I did its usually not more than $150. Debit and credit cards can easily and quickly be shut down using your mobile and banking apps. Additionally chances are they're not gonna take your phone but even if they do that should be secured anyway so you're good.

Here's a tip: Keep a pen on you. You can hurt someone pretty bad if you get into a scuffle. Also you can feign to be scared, nervous, stupid etc. when the cops ask questions. Better than having to explain why you had a knife on you.

If someone asks you for the time and you don't know just size up what time it is say it's about X-oclock and try and read his body language when he's approaching you. You're good 👍

I made a habit of always stopping at the red lights when walking under influence. Safety rules serve a drunk me best.

Some other smarts are these: - When you go to another state or city, do your research on what people like to do there, and act like you're from the place when you go. Never tell anyone where you're from. - Never walk with your hands in your pockets, let your hands roam free so you can land a punch if need be. - Never wear jackets at a gas station. Long sleeves at gas stations allow strangers to come up, yank your sleeves down at tie them up making your hands unusable. Plus it's best to not wear dangly clothes while handling gas. - Keep up with the flow of traffic and go the speed limit. If you're that one straggler who lags behind, you'll piss people off. - If you meet an old friend at a store, do not hold an hour long conversation in the middle of the checkout line, you'll get in people's way. - If someone offer's to wash your headlights in a parking lot, say NO. They will only clean one light as a free sample and make you go around the corner and buy a cleaning kit that costs a fortune, so you'll have to clean the other one.

The teenagers thing I can agree with. With Tiktok and other social media people are out here chasing clout and fame and will go to extreme lengths to get it.

Yes. Please do make the "grey man" video. In my own case, I am armed 24/7, whether at work, or at Walmart. However, I am still in my work uniform, even while at Walmart. A man just getting off work, and getting a case of beer, nothing looks suspicious or out of place about that at all. However, people with combat experience, and are armed 24/7, those are the safest people to have on your team. Guess who is going to be the first to step in front of you when something happens.

Yes, please do a gray man video, stuff like how a lot of those preaching “gray man” wear tactical hobo clothing by default (5.11 logos, BDUs, CCW vests, NRA gear, Salomon shoes/boots, etc.).

9:08 I need help with this one. Can someone please provide some input? This is a legit question, but as a 54 y/o man, I have never needed a bag. My wallet, keys, money & phone fit in my pockets. How much stuff does a regular person really need for the day requiring a bag?

I was just like you but I love my bag it’s life changing instead of checking if you got everything you just grab your bag & go

Always know where the bad neighborhoods are so you don't accidently end up there somehow. Unfortunately, Google maps doesn't warn you about bad crime areas.

I never understand why people spend so much time at the ATM - especially at night. Get your money and get out of there. Also don't advertise how much money you just withdrew and choose locations that are in well-lit monitored areas.
