As you get older, I believe one of the things that will make you look 10 years. Younger is your posture, the way you walk the way you hold yourself when you’re seen walking across the parking lot and you’re not hunched over or shuffling. Stand up straight, pull your shoulders back Walk like you’ve got some stride. That would be my number one change for older people and I’m 63.
@urmo3452 ай бұрын
indeed, posture needs training. This dude here is talking lot of useless and baseless crap while leaving really important factors out. Like fitness and good shape. getting rid that beer gut is more important than "comfortable shoes". I wear sneakers! I hated shoes all my life. I am fit, why the heck should i grow grey beard and start to wear shoes? XD

100% agree about posture. I’m 65 and work out 3/4 times a week. This has given me good posture and along with that, great confidence. I’ve been told I look anything up to 15 years younger so I’m not complaining. If you want to look younger you have to work at it and of course that includes diet which is very, very important.

The key to colouring your hair is to get it done professionally as they will weave in highlights and lowlights. Natural hair isn’t one colour it is dimensional. Also avoid going to dark as it will appear harsh on a more mature face bringing out all the imperfections in your skin we dark shadows under the eyes hyper pigmentation etc

I had a similar lesson at about 37. I was on a train wearing what I normally wore (the same old style for the last 20 years) and two guys in their late 40s got on, one dressed really well (Tweed Blazer, Brown Brogues, well fitting dark jeans, tucked in shirt, grey hair and short beard, he also looked in better than average shape) the other guy was dressed just like me, even had the exact same sneakers, as well as a younger person hairstyle with added obvious looking hair & beard dye, it really made the other guy look fantastic while the other trying way too hard to be youthful made him painfully look older. I reconsidered my wardrobe in the next few days, don't think I ever wore a pair of sneakers again casually and clothing that younger people wore. In fact, the other guy with the greying hair and Tweed blazer became my older person role model. I was even considering beard dye as my beard at that time was 25% grey, I just trimmed it down so it looked neat. Its a great lesson to learn while younger rather than too late.

Weight/physical health should also be mentioned. Being overweight ages people greatly. Relates to this, wearing clothes that fit (not too tight!) helps as well. Wearing the same size as when we were 20 years old doesn’t happen for most men.

The.trick is to go one shade darker than your natural hair color, and then leave it in for 15 mins instead of the recommend 10 mins. Then wash without shampooing for 2 days. It looks completely natural.

I am just about 66 - so, a few things I do and have learned. Embrace the grey hair or lack of hair. Even young guys can be balding or keep shaven heads. I happen to be lucky to have decent hair at (almost) 66. I ditched the dye many years ago. Keep your self in great shape! That's the thing that makes you look old! If you look like a male gymnast (or some version), you will automatically look 30+ years younger. Yes, it can be done with excellent food discipline and good supplements - ditch the alcohol, process foods, and junk foods and especially sugar. I see guys in my Spenga gym in their 40's and 50's and what makes them look their age (and older) is their general body contours (love handles, bellies, and such) and skin tone. Really - aging is up to you. How disciplined are you willing to be with exercise and diet? Skin care? Alcohol and drug use? Taking care of your microbiome? Yes, don't wear dorky cloths - stick to Ralph Lauren and other traditional styles that will make you look your age, but yet somewhat stylish and classically modern. Flirt with the younger girls - but don't take them seriously because they will not take you seriously. Have fun with life.

Nicely put, and I agree on most points with some caveat on wearing trendy things: I think it makes a huge difference if you are trying to look young by wearing trendy things or you simply like wearing trendy stuff. In the latter case, if it comes across naturally as your style, you can wear it regardless if you are 20, 40, or 90.

It is definetly better to try to embrace whatever you think looks bad on you. I got my first grey hair when I was in high school and by my mid twenties I was completley salt and pepper, and now in early thirties I am mostly grey. And I had a really hard time getting to grips with it. Especialy in college. I mean it did looked wierd. But at some point I got to terms with it I let the beard grow out and started to dress more maturely and (at least I think so) learned to use it to my advantage. After getting my first job I was later told that the fact that I looked older, more experinced and reliable helpped getting me the job. The wife liked it too 😀

Fair advice. Im 47, and I do dye my hair, but I agree that this can look really jarring on some men. For me its a matter of using the right color and doing it properly. Almost all women my age dye their hair, I dont feel like there is much of a difference. Gray hair can look quite sophiticated, and it can also make you appear washed out, frail and way older than you are. I dont feel like dying your hair is a dealbreaker if youre pulling it off. Great content as always.

100% agree. On some skin tones grey hair looks great. If you are pale (like I am) it doesn’t look so great-as you said you end up looking washed out. A good color job can help, along with a good haircut, and if it’s maintained well.

Another thing I will add about feeling old or young is getting all your affairs in order for where you want to be in life. It may be easier said then done but when you are where you need to be in terms of security of your life and ownership of things you desired to acquire by that specific age. You feel old when you are not where you need to be in life and you feel younger when you are on schedule or ahead of where your expected goals are.

Great video. Excellent advice! There is a fine line dividing between a men after his 40s dressing well and not so much. Trying to look younger is not always good, it backfires pretty easily. The clothes that are too tight (pants, t-shirts, shirts, blazers, etc) Using those ripped jeans Not upgrading the shoe game (nothing against using red Converse or black Vans, but maybe using them in the right place and time) And the list could go on forever and ever... I think that a big part of this game is being nonchalant, the opposite as everyone knowing you are trying too hard.

I'm 65 now with a bit of a gut, but that doesn't stop me from making an effort at looking my best. And it can be done simply, without breaking the bank. For Fall, Winter, and Spring, I wear button down, mock or turtleneck shirts under a half-zip sweater. Business casual, or five pocket pants in a variety of colors, and chukka's or oxford shoes. Perfect for me. Not too boring, and not too hip. (Provided they are all quality garments. Don't buy CHEAP!) For Summer, it's mostly shorts, "modern fit" polo's, and casual footwear. (Rockport, Cole Haan, Johnston/Murphy, etc) As you invest in your wardrobe, a little at a time, you'll discover different color combinations that maybe you never considered before. What you have becomes more versatile. It really doesn't take much to stand apart from the crowd. All the best guys!

Balding is not so much an aging issue as a genetics issue. The comb-over is the worst possible choice a man can make. Long gray hair is the second worst. Now that I've got 60 in the rear-view mirror, I find it is a bit more challenging to look stylish without looking "styled." That is the key, and it's not the same for any two men.

Some may disagree, but I find that a beard, especially a goatee in your 40s and 50s make you look older. The goatee seemed to be the thing for awhile and a lot of older guys I know still have it. I think the best advise for looking younger is stay slim, well groomed, clean cut, no beards and no hair dye. You can't do anything about gray or balding, just keep everything neat. Totally agree on the nose, ear and eyebrows. I am a guy and when I see guys my age not taking care of that, it's gross. Also, if you clothes don't fit anymore, get rid of them.

Staying in shape and maintaining good health should be the number 1 concern. Because sickness and infirmities can actually make a person looks much older (even if you are only 20s). Also, take care of your teeth and make sure you wear dentures if needed. At the end of time, no matter what external enhancements you do can 100% compensate in turning back the hands of clocks. IT'S ALL IN THE MIND. If you think you are old, then you will act and feel old. But I admire those who are already in their 60's and 70's and yet being with them, seeing how they embrace life and still keep on learning new things even after retirement - they are the most interesting people to be with. I rest my case now. And by the way, YOU STILL LOOK HOT despite your age! Hahaha

Brian, I'm 53 years old, 6' 195 lbs and loved your video. I agree with all of it, though I do colour my hair and find a way to not make it unnatural. Here's what I do to not look even older than I am: 1. Sleep. I try and get a minimum of 7 hours, preferably 8 a night. 5-10 years ago, 6 hours worked for me, but as I have gotten older, I need rest. Want to look and feel old? Get limited sleep. How you feel in your 50's with limited sleep will impact how you look. 2. Supplements. I take them ALL. Omega 3-6-9's 3 x a day. Collagen powder mixed with water in the morning. Multi-vitamin at night. Biotin/Ceramide supplement to promote healthy skin. I also take a milk thistle supplement 2x a day to promote healthy liver function. 3. Exercise. In the old days I would lift weights 3-4 x a day with limited cardio (maybe a 10 min warmup). Today? I don't lift weights. I do cardio 3-4 times a week, using either an elliptical trainer or a treadmill. I get my heart rate up and do 20-30 mins of sustained cardio while I watch the news in the morning. I follow that up with 100 ab crunches with a 20 lb medicine ball. That's all I do. Lifting a lot of weight is strenuous for me as I get older. 4. Diet - no dry carbs. No pasta, no rice, no starchy grains. I eat meat, fish, chicken, vegetables fresh or frozen, same with fruit. I have a protein shake with isolate whey protein, a banana, frozen fruit, unsweetened coconut milk, and kefir with probiotics. I also do intermittent fasting. I stop eating at 8 pm. Only water after that. I don't eat until noon the next day, and the first thing I have is a superfoods green drink mixing greens powder and water. i then have a protein shake. Both are taken first to satisfy my hunger and prevent me from eating unhealthy foods after not eating for 16 hours. I then have a healthy salad or a bowl or organic soup, an afternoon snack, and dinner around 7. 5. Grooming - i have my hair cut every 4 weeks, with a trim two weeks after my cut to keep my hair neat looking. I still have a full head of hair - I take the omega supplements as well as collagen powder, plus biotin/ceramide supplements to feed my body from the inside. I do have a few 'thinner' areas, and use Nioxin once a day on that one area of my head. I colour my hair and eyebrows once every 2-3 weeks. I also go to an esthetician and have my eyebrows waxed. I have a body trimmer and a nose trimmer and every sunday, trim body hair everywhere and use my clippers to keep my fingernails and toenails trimmed and neat. I also keep my teeth white, using my sonic care toothbrush and toothpaste that contains hydrogen peroxide. I also use a gentle facial wash, typically with glycolic acid or salicylic acid to gently exfoliate my skin. I use quality skincare products from companies like Clarins, Clinique, Men's Science or Baxter's. I use a serum morning and night, typically with gentle acids and vitamin c to keep my skin tone brighter, and in the daytime use Jack Black double duty moisturizer with SPF 20 on top of the serum. At night, I use a serum and then use either Clinique Turnaround night moisturizer or Kiehl's Overnight rehydrating mask. Want to not look old? Wash your face with gentle, quality products, use a serum first on clean skin and then put a quality moisturizer on top. 6. Fashion - I wear modern clothing from all major fashion brands. Nothing I wear is 'trendy' or advertises a brand like 'BOSS' or 'Dolce and Gabbana'. I have my suits fitted perfectly to fit me, wear Zegna, Corneliani, Tiger, Sand, etc. - all with modern cuts, softened shoulders. Regardless of brand, how a suit fits you is more important than anything else. I wear modern jeans, chinos, shirts,. I don't look like I am 30 years old, though I am typically mistaken for someone in their 40's, not their 50's. One final comment: 7. you can have the best diet, wear clothes that don't make you look old, etc. but how you behave, how you speak to others in a modern and contemporary way, not living in the past, not using 20-something millennial street slang is also a way not to appear too 'old'.

@@declankelly9829 I have been married for over 25 years and have two kids. Both played competitive sports and I was actually fit enough to play with them/practice them into my 50's. Because I don't drink excessively and do not eat bad food (low cholesterol, low sugar) and exercise regularly - it helps that I am able to spend time with my family instead of being physically aged to the point where I can't do things at my age. The reality is that as we get older, there are things we cannot avoid, and things we can prevent. As I get older, my skin has gotten naturally drier. I can choose to use a moisturizer every day or let my skin get more wrinkled. Will it matter to those who love me? Probably not. As I get older, I can let all my hair fall out or (in some cases - not all), I can take supplements with biotin and collagen to help my hair follicles stay healthy. I do what I do to stay healthy and to feel good about myself. I don't do it to feel 'more loved'. I have a LOT of friends who are the same age as me who are less healthy and are overweight. Some are happy. Some are not. My attitude is that everyone is different, but in the end, it's about being happy. How about you Declan? How old are you? How healthy are you? Do you exercise, take care of your skin and watch what you eat? Do you care ? What is your experience?

Great Video, Brian! In the last couple of years I say my style game went up some: I'm incorporating casual dress shoes (Rockport, Cole Haan, etc) with my denim and I wear vest/sweaters with my oxford/dress shirts. As for my hair, It has been receding so I have taken up shaving my head. Low Maintenance rocks, but my sister says "Why shave your head, you look great with a little hair." Finally, I lost over 25 pounds and two pants sizes in the last several month and family & colleagues have noticed how slimmer I look!😃😃. I wish I could show you my wardrobe choices on YT. I feel I dress appropriately for a 45 year old.

Guys pay attention. I dated a lady 16 years younger. She told me “thank God you don’t wear old man pants.” She later explained faded blue jeans not limited to but including Levi’s 501. I always wear a dark blue jean when I do wear them. It’s worked for me. Tip 2, in summer stay away from cargo shorts. Yes they are handy to wear, but it’s as boring to her, equally as boring as a woman in pajamas are to a man. Tip 3. Stop tucking in your shirt which highlights your gut. Unless you are wearing dress clothes, it’s seldom a good idea to have shirt tucked in

Re: shoes. Guys in their 50s-60s who wear tailored suits but super stylish/hip/colorful trainers, look pretty good imho. Not clunky comfort shoes but well made trainers with cool color combos. I see this a lot in my professional world (creative class, designers, architects) and these guys also pair a hip set of eyeglass frames. Dudes in their 60s who look creative and stylish. Not everyone can pull this off. Helps to be fit and in shape.

Hi Brian - it's been a while! Great vid. At 60, your thumbnail obviously caught my attention. ;-) I agree with all your tips/suggestions. A couple side notes from someone who is there living it! lol If you find an excellent colorist that can make your hair look 100% natural - I say go for it. I would not try to do it yourself at home out of a box and if you look good with a greying or balding head- definitely go that route - it's much less work! Coloring isn't the most economical, low maintenance way to go - but I've been very happy with it for about 5 years now (too bad we can't post pics on YT). Just my two cents. Second tip from this "old man" - I have my ears and nose hair waxed once a month - it may sound painful, but it really isn't bad at all and they will be smooth as butter after - you'll be addicted. It's also fairly inexpensive.

I can just wake up and pretty much do nothing with my hair and it looks kind of crazy sometime yet cool. I usually dress pretty nice and am physically fit so it counters nicely any homelessness my hair might project 😂. Do t get me started on ear hair! 😔

I'm 54 and have had some form of facial hair most of my adult life, it's always suited my face to have some style of facial hair, of course it was dark hair. Now it's almost completely grey and for ages i was self concious about having a grey beard, but lately so many people have told me that I Iook so much nicer and more handsome with a neatly trimmed full grey beard, it just suits me, I will be sticking with it from now on. I have a friend my age who uses a dye to make his beard black and suggested i use it, but I think it looks totally ridiculous it looks so fake like he has coloured in his face with a black sharpy marker.

Why would anyone want to be told how to look or dress ? Important thing is do what you want and stop caring what others think. Im 63 and I've coloured my hair and beard since my late 30's, people are shocked if I tell them because they say they thought it was natural, leaving my hair white ages me so much, people don't believe me when I tell them I'm 63 it's just the way I look, some people will always look younger no matter how they dress etc, just as some people look old all their lives.

no mention here of how important being fit is .. having no gut .. being toned trim and fit in and of itself makes you look younger and you look more youthful in whatever clothes you might choose to wear. also regarding the hair dyeing .. there are some very good hair dyes out there .. the trick to looking natural is to find one that matches with your skin tone AND to leave a slight bit of grey at the temples and/or sideburns .. PRO TIP: use a women's brand - much greater choices/selection to find the right match to your skin :)

I’m not stuck in the 80s but I am 51. I don’t think about hiding it but I do find my greys unappealing but I don’t dye my hair since I cut my hair mega short. I also don’t think about fashion or dressing my age or anything I don’t have anything from the 1980s. For work business casual for anything else I just wear whatever I want. But I will say this - get your exercise in- workout strength and cardio very import. Get rid of the dumpy body - you don’t have to look like Thor just lose the gut. All those guys you mentioned are celebrities- not that they aren’t good looking with a dash of salt but I’m just saying. I am wearing my graphic T-shirt’s still but this isn’t to mask my age. I think one can embrace balding by still keeping your hair as well. Not everyone looks good in it, but there are many people who wear the bald haircut very well, like Bernhard Roetzel, Peter Stormare, or even Larry David. I think the key is combing the hair back and not trying to hide the baldness.

In "Seinfeld," Larry David annoyed me with his loud stance on pro-baldness. The "George" character wasn't allowed to wear a toupee. Yes, Jason Alexander looked 100% better in a toupee. Yes, the George character needed to be "a short, stocky bald man," as George described himself. But Larry David wants everyone in the universe to be bald. It's a choice, Larry, okay?
@Officialhelpkenet10 ай бұрын
The problem with a toupée is that, if you're single, you're setting all your relationships up for inevitable disappointment. There is no way to avoid a woman eventually discovering that you're bald. Most women would respect a man more for being bald and proud from the get-go.@@mt.shasta6097

Not to get caught up too much in semantics...but I started to color my hair so that I would not look older than I was...rather than trying to look younger. It is not the fact of coloring ones hair that can be dicey, but the WAY it is done. If the color is close to ones natural shade, and not terribly darker or lighter, then like the old ad says: Does (s)he or doesn't (s)he? Looking like you dipped your head into a bowl of black ink is not the way to do it.

I’m going to have to disagree with you on “comfort shoes.” When I first started working after college, I had a job that required a suit and tie every day. My boss was an older gentleman, in his sixties, who definitely had some trouble being on his feet all day long. As a result, he started wearing the first generation of these hybrid dress shoe/sneaker shoes. While not an ideal solution, it at least allowed him to look presentable in the board room. So the realities of getting older sometimes force us to adopt footwear for orthopedic reasons, and those shoes are just not as attractive or stylish as other dress shoes.

Ozempic is making a lot of people look older whether they are young or old. Rapid weight loss will result in sagging skin and, after a certain age, the skin has lost the elasticity to tighten back up. My personal philosophy is "you don't see wrinkles on a balloon" ;)
@roelfo4 ай бұрын
For me personally it's grooming and glasses. I'm not *that* old (yet) but staying well groomed (hair, beard, eyebrows, nose/ears) makes such a huge difference for anyone! I'm balding, so I'm rocking a buzz cut and a short beard, but when it grows out a bit (within a 3/4 day span) I immediately age 10 years. What multiplies this effect is when I'm wearing my glasses instead of contact lenses. Not saying every pair of glasses makes you look older necessarily, but it definitely can. So be aware.
@jatall279710 ай бұрын
Here is my three things simple list that is a guarantee improvement! 1. Incorporate drinking one gallon of water a day no matter what. It’s better than ANY skin routine, and has many other amazing health benefits. 2. Your personal style doesn’t matter, and size doesn’t matter, but fit .., absolutely matters! Pay the money to have your clothes actually fit you. Tailor your shirts, jackets, sleeve length, do modern fit with suits etc.., fit .., AND SHOES.., are EVERYTHING! Lastly.., you have got to do something in the gym or other forms of exercise. It combats the aging. Focus on exercises that build your back muscles as the priority. Also, even though you can still be quite sexy and very handsome as a big thick guy .., the truth is.., the more you can get your weight down.., it greatly adds to an older gentleman’s overall attractiveness and youthful appeal. One last thing…, if you dye your hair or beard.., the simple trick to looking natural and your best is to not leave the dye in to long. As an older person you want the dye be in just long enough to give you the mid range of color desired. Natural hair is not just one solid color.., so if you normally leave the dye in for say 10 minutes… change that to about only 3 or 4 minutes. Believe me.., you will love the more natural result. Yes you will spend a little more in dye because you have to do it more often.., but the results of the natural look are worth the extra money. Also, less time will eliminate the problem of irritation to the skin!

RE: wearing old school athletic shoes everywhere. Ironic the advice is to go get a decent looking pair of shoes as that is what our grandfathers did. And when we were teenagers, wearing athletic shoes everywhere was a badge of youth culture. But now, an older guy wearing old sneakers is a sign he just gave up. bonus points if he wears sweatpants with them.

Dress appropriately for your environment. For instance, I live in an adventure sports town that hosts millions of visitors a year. The going style here, as you can imagine, is quite casual. Some visitors dress like they do at home. Wall Street looks out of place here. It’s more noticeable on women who insist on wearing makeup. A woman in makeup looks so out of place it is actually shocking. When I visit a city I’ll dress appropriately. Here, a t-shirt, shorts, and Teva sandals is appropriate for all but the most formal occasions.

Attire is completely situational. I’m not dressing the same way if I’m going out to the local big box store, as I am going out with my wife. Also if you buying clothes in a store, that you just don’t fit in. Then you are probably shopping for clothes, for a much younger person. Challenge yourself, go out wearing a nice pair of dark jeans, no distress, a nice pair of loafers, or some kind of nice footwear. Wear a nice looking solid color button down shirt, and a blazer. And of course you want to be well groomed and color coordinated, and a little fragrance goes a long ways. You will have women coming up and starting conversations.
