I am currently working with the Mandala Ombre ( making your Petals Blanket ) it's my first cake yarn ever. I have been waiting to try this type of yarn ( cake ) until I got back in the groove of crocheting ( after 20+ years) I'm almost done with the first cake after a Dissasterous expirience when the label around the cake was loose enough to come off i had the biggest YARN MESS OF MY LIFE!!! I spent 6 hours to try and untangle it. I ended up having to cut the yarn more than several times and roll them into balls making sure I was doing each one in the correct colorway of the yarn. I have 5 cakes left and i am going to try pulling from the outside or just balling them up. Lastly this yarn doe not feel like a 4 weight UNTIL it starts coming out of the cake and it's like it inflates the yarn. It works up to be a very soft 4 weight.

I hope you are enjoying the blanket! That sounds terrible about the yarn mess! I know I always hate when that happens as you feel like you’re doing more untangling than crocheting. I have some of the mandala ombré but haven’t worked with it yet.

I've just found your channel and I loved it. I would love it if you could show how to read a pattern for beginners. I've just found amigurumi as well and would love sum tutorials for this too. Thanks from down under Australia!!!!!
@AmandaCrochets4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words! I'll definitely keep how to read a crochet pattern in mind. I know a lot of crocheters struggle with this. As far as amigurumi goes, I've always followed a pattern for that as I'm terrible when it comes to designing that type of item lol

Hi Amanda, Enjoyed some of your tips on this video. I have never been to Hobby Lobby as it is too far away from my home and have never tried online ordering through them. Because you noted your enjoyment in their yarn aisles, I am hopeful to get some feedback from you about their wool yarns . (I have tried Lion brand Fishermen wool to make a male friend a hat and scarf set, as he just loves wool specifically.) I would hope you could tell me a little about Hobby Lobby #4 weight wools, as I would like to try online ordering from Hobby for this particular friend's requests. He incidentally likes tweeds as much as solids. I am not driven by pricing...the quality, feel, and laundering care of the fiber is what matters most. Many thanks if you care to comment.!

Hi Priscilla! Thanks for watching! I'm glad you found some of my tips helpful. I hope you get a chance to order from them online. Just remember that every other week Hobby Lobby has 30% off their entire stock of yarn. It helps to save a little bit of money if you're buying a lot at once. As far as wool yarn goes, I don't usually use 100% wool yarns. Hobby Lobby does, however, have a I Love This Wool line. You can check it out here: www.hobbylobby.com/Yarn-Needle-Art/Yarn/Ivory-I-Love-This-Wool-Naturals-Yarn/p/37605. They have a few neutral colors. I mainly stick to acrylic yarns. I'm sorry I couldn't have been more help, but hope that link helps you!

Tysm! I'm thinking of doing it as a hobby since I have a lot of free times currently 13 but I think I'll manage! 🥑 Edit: I've seen a lot of people use hooks only but other than hooks do I need any other tools?
@AmandaCrochets Жыл бұрын
You can always try out crocheting to see if it’s for you. For essential tools, you’ll need a crochet hook, yarn, scissors, and yarn needle. And of course patience 😊

Amanda, I just purchased a yarn baller just like the one you have. However it is because of this purchase that I went looking on KZbin for you. I received a bag of goodies in with the baller and I'm not sure what some of them are or how to use them. Maybe they are for knitters and not crocheters. It came with a measuring tape, stitch markers, 2 types/sizes stitch counters, a stitch gauge, and 2 items I don't know how to use or even what they are for. One is a 5" oblong metal object that resembles a safety pin, the other is 2 sets of 2 rubber tips. One small and the other larger. They have holes in the bottom of them which looks like they might stick onto the end of your crochet hook, but I don't know why or how to use them. If you can answer these questions for me I would be so pleased. Thank you for your time and wonderful videos. I love crocheting baby blankets right now also.
@AmandaCrochets3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment! I hope you get a lot of use out of your yarn ball winder like I have. To answer your questions, the rubber tips are used for knitting needles. You would put these on the ends of your knitting needles to keep your stitches from falling off the needles. With the giant safety pin, this is something you can use to keep all your stitch markers in place. Hope that helps and happy crocheting!

I also found the light up crochet hooks so I could see the stitches better in dim light. And the Susan Bates hooks are so much better because they’re pointier and grab the yarn better lol xx

I would say, start small, be patient, and have a willingness to learn. Practice getting your tension correct by chaining over and over again. Also, use solid color yarn in a light color so you can see your stitches. I wish you the best of luck!!

I'm thinking about getting into crocheting and I wanted to know if cotten yarn would be really good to start out with.
@AmandaCrochets3 жыл бұрын
I would start with a soft acrylic yarn first. You can start with cotton, but some can be a little stiff, so acrylic might be better for now. However if you find a soft cotton yarn you can start with that. I wish you the very best luck on your crochet journey 😊
