Bearing gifts; tossing the Lohei accompanied by auspicious phrases, then sharing the meal; and playing games together are such beautiful ways to give and receive blessings with family and friends. Thank you, Vincent, for sharing these traditions with us and for writing such a lovely description of them. I often wish that Americans had more family-centered cultural traditions. We are generally a culture of people with individual pursuits and family members are often separated by distance or choice. I smiled to see your lovely family enjoy the time together. As the youngest child of a family with much older parents and siblings, I have no family left. So, I really appreciate your suggestion that we cherish our time together.
