A whole food, plant-based organic diet with occasional wild caught fish is known to be best for health and longevity per Valter Longo PhD, expert in human longevity. Dr. David Sinclair is another expert who says the same. It is also a lot cheaper than eating meat and dairy, avoid both because if you don't want Endometrial Cancer. I also choose to be vegan for ethical and financial reasons, mostly ethical reasons, because animals are sentient beings who feel pain just as we do. The way most animals are farmed especially those who are factory farmed, fed hormones and antipbiotics, transported and slaughtered is unacceptable if one cares about animal welfare as well as one's own health, and the environment. Dr. Mindy Pelz is keen to avoid all wheat due to pesticides. She only eats organic apples too, because conventional ones are actually unhealthy, which was news to me.

I agree and have been doing everything you say here for decades. I am 79 and have never had any health issues that require a doctor or hospital. My mother ate healthy her whole life and died at the age of 98 of Covid. I do like bread but I buy the whole grain kind. In particular I like Dave's Killer 21 grain bread. It is expensive but worth it to me. I make my own iced tea and sweeten with Stevia. The only snack items I buy are pretzel rods and tortilla chips that I use in a taco salad. I do like Bolthouse Yogurt Ranch dressing. It has 50 calories per 2 Tbsp. and is primarily buttermilk, milk, oil, cream, yogurt, pineapple juice and spices. I make homemade jam but when I purchase it I want only fruit, cane sugar, and pectin. When I make applesauce I make it with apples and their skin and use no sugar. I have used real butter my whole life. I was raised on it. As for cooking I have only myself to feed but make enough for 6 meals. Then I portion it out and put it in the freezer to eat another time. I absolutely love pork chops and chicken made in the air fryer so I only make enough for one night and a leftover.

I totally agree about the so expensive foods and drinks that people buy these days, supermarkets sell such rubbish foods and drinks. Plus they taste second rate and are full of chemicals!!! Years ago none of this rubbish food existed so we ate more healthily because of this. Everything is about convenience these days but you literally pay the price health wise and financially. I cook from scratch every day now I am semi-retired as I've got the time now. I don't buy soda/ lemonade, little packets of food, pre-made meals. I love and crave sweets. Over the past year I have replaced junk food style sweets with Whole Milk Plain Greek Yogurt with a small drizzle of honey; sometimes I add berries (I keep a variety of frozen berries in my freezer i.e. blackberries, strawberries, blueberries) or a few spoonfuls of a bran based cereal (i.e. GrapeNuts or Raisin Bran) to add crunch. Makes for a great breakfast or quick treat any time of day.

I have been eliminating sugar from my diet, and it basically means I can't buy ANY processed food -- man alive, they shove sugar into EVERYTHING -- frozen meals, processed meats, all kinds of grains and breads, things you don't usually associate with sugar because they aren't sweet. And you have to read the labels like a hawk: corn syrup IS sugar, as well as dextrose, glucose, fructose -- all so manufacturers can avoid saying "sugar." I feel so much better without sugar, it's worth the efffort, but it IS work to get it out of your diet.

Thanks for the ideas. I stopped drinking soda years ago.I have to avoid caffeine due to a heart rhythm problem. So I make lemonade. If you freeze the lemons, you'll get a better yield of the juice once you thaw them. I used to use 4 lemons, but now that I freeze and thaw the lemons, I use 3 large lemons to get about 8 ozs of juice ($1.46 at my grocer with tax & after senior discount) and 3/4 cup of sugar ( $0.18 for sugar on sale with senior discount & tax) and add enough water to make 2 quarts for $1.65. That's about 28 cents per serving, since my servings are about 10 ozs with ice cubes in the glass. I live in the South, and lemonade is a summer staple.

Sugar is my lifelong addiction. I usually have to hit a bottom of some kind to remove it. Recently cut sugar and eating 3 healthy nutritious meals usually all with some form of protein, possibly a snack. My job & commute is 12+ hrs door to door but swapped the convenient salad kits that launched better eating, to making my own salads (not a money saver but more diverse veggies). I don't make dressing but definitely a win for all the many changes including caffeine cut in half.

You don't even need an air fryer for frozen foods, I do mine either in my regular oven or my toaster oven with great results, have been doing it for years. I got tired of having a huge deep fryer around that just looked gross. If the item you cook it in looks that gross, imagine what it's doing to your insides! Agree on Panera, I don't think I've been there in a year. Excess sugar can also cause joint pain if you have arthritis or tissue pain if you have fibromyalgia! I cook because I have a lot of food allergies and have no choice--but I'm also not taking ANY medications for anything. I think not eating processed foods, even though it's out of necessity is a big factor.

I keto, so I make my own sour cream. Tastes MUCH better and cheaper. It makes a great salad dressing with herbs and mayo. But I do keep canned soups, in my pantry, along with several packages of broth. They are part of my blizzard pantry. If the power doesn't go out in the winter, the contents of the blizzard pantry goes to the local food pantry. Yeah, I'd take that alcohol thing with a grain of salt. The evidence in the studies is a lof of metastudy. I like a glass of wine now and then. Three Buck Chuck or Winking Owl once a month isn't going to break the bank or lead to a heart attack.

When I started looking to be more healthy through my foods, I looked at what my grandparents and great-grandparents (from both sides of the family) and started eating what they served. Had real butter, whole milk (not the cooled milk that they skimmed the cream for their coffee kind), made breads with lard from scratch, meat, garden potatoes & veggies... Grandpa on my dad's side hated eggs so he put lots of ketchup (UGH). Lard was also the frying when it was breakfast potatoes.. it goes a long ways when one has 5 boys & 6 girls growing, plus the adults. My primary Doc was happy to look at my bloodwork. He ended up disappointed that my cholesterol (the bad one) was 20 points below the level that he would recommend that kind of drugs. He ended up giving me a food intake log for 3 months & I took the bloodwork again. It was basically the same. I guess I'm abby normal or the FDA is kinda misleading the public. (This is when eggs & bacon were evil foods, SHEESH!!)

Just the classic stuff sometimes. The chips get me sometimes too but again, limited. Well I’m bad. So bad. 😂😂 But I do fairly well with everything in moderation. Usually just those and sometimes bread and occasionally sugary cereal or canned soup. Don’t really do much of the rest. The only sugar sub I found I like is the Truvia Brown. Good stuff. Expensive but so much better than all the others (which I usually can’t stand lol). I got a sale on it tho and bot like 4. 😅😅 Thank you Kroger. If someone would invent Truvia brown cola, I’d try it. Lol. Also love plain balsamic vinegar.

I totally disagree with you. Learn to coupon. Please don’t buy all the scare tactics of people who think everything is a poison. If you are at a healthy weight and not a diabetic, in moderation none of your list is bad. We spend $150 a month on groceries. We are not overweight and exercise daily.

@@silentnot4812 that is some of us once in a while guilty pleasure. Some of the stuff on that list can be appreciated, sparingly, especially if you buy the better version of it.
