15 foods the red cross wants us to have? Since when has the red cross cared about senior citizen???
@SurvivalScope1014 ай бұрын
The Red Cross is all about community support, including seniors! They recognize the importance of having essential supplies for everyone, especially during emergencies.
@carmenortiz52944 ай бұрын
@@SurvivalScope101 You are completely fooled. The US Red Cross collects money, which goes mostly to them, NOT to help people. Among other things they do is have a huge party once a year, invitation only for the people who are members of the organization. As in mostly very RICH. Not a secret. You want to help people, that is not even remotely the place to donate to. When there are big disasters, the people actually going and helping are, among a few others are the Mormon and the Amish/and Mennonites, who work together. Neither of those group ask for financial aid, the members do the work and donate the money. The only others that for sure help people are the Salvation Army, and Habitat For Humanity, those two collect money but they actually used it for the needy. The international Red Cross is not even remotely as bad as the one in the US. I used to be a volunteer with them in Germany.

I appreciate your perspective! It's important to research where our donations go, and there are definitely various organizations that have different approaches to helping those in need. Thank You for your input. Be Safe, Be Prepared and Be Blessed.

@@SurvivalScope101 Dad and us were station in German when the Berlin Wall was being build and even young teen dependants had to attend military briefings AND training for teens, in case WWIII started. You can bet that I am as paranoid as it gets. I've been prepared for decades for just about any contingency. Heck, dad taught to box when I was six (girl) and I broke the 12 year old school bully's nose when I was 8. Dad gave the Art of War as a present. Not your usual little old lady. LOL

I eat fresh meat (cooking it of course) and fresh fruits and vegetable, sadly, it costs more than a meal made from canned foods which have less vitamins and mineral; so cannot agree with you. Fresh is healthier but not necessarily cheaper.

Health experts says to stay away from canned soup etc. Canned fruits are high in sugar.
@SurvivalScope1014 ай бұрын
Totally get what you mean! Canned stuff can be sneaky with all that sugar. Fresh is where it’s at! However, FRESH won't always be available. FROM THE FOOD NETWORK: With the availability of fresh fruit dwindling as the cold weather sets in, canned varieties can be a healthy alternative. But not all canned varieties are created equal. Good? According to the USDA’s Dietary Guidelines, adults should eat at least 2 servings of fruit each day. And canned fruit can absolutely be just as healthy (if not more) than its fresh counterpart. When storing fresh fruit for many days, the vitamin C content tends to diminish (the vitamin is easily destroyed by exposure to air). Canned fruit, however, will still retain much of its vitamin C-even when stored for several months-a clear advantage over fresh. Many fresh fruits are also shipped for miles or sit in storage for days before being enjoyed. This also leads to degradation of their nutritional content. Fresh fruit can cost a pretty penny when out of season. Canned is a great way to enjoy fruit any time of year. Check your circular or favorite brand online--you can often find sales and coupons for canned fruit. Bad? Fruits canned in heavy syrup coat healthy pieces of fruit with loads of added sugar. One-half cup of pears canned in their own juice provides 60 calories and 12 grams of sugar. However, when packed in heavy syrup, the same amount contains 100 calories and 19 grams of sugar. Those extra 40 calories and 7 grams of sugar are all from added sugars. Fruit cocktail may seem like a tasty alternative, but buyer beware! Many varieties are packed in heavy or light syrup, plus those cherries often contain artificial colors. When shopping look for brands packed in juice and without an artificial red color. Improperly canned fruit (especially when home-canned) can also pose a risk for botulism-a serious foodborne illness. To minimize your risk, avoid bloated, dented or leaking cans or those with a flawed seal. If you open a can and it’s foamy or has a funky odor-discard it immediately without tasting the contents. The Bottom Line: Canned fruit can certainly be a part of a healthy eating plan, but it’s important to read labels and choose cans wisely.
