I have a bone stock 2016 F350 4x4 Lariat with just under 90k miles. In town driving I get 18 mpg unloaded. I am never on the highway without a trailer but unloaded I get 14 to 15. Depending on how heavy the load is I have gotten down to 11 mpg. Since 30k I always use Hot Shot's Secret LX4 Lubricity Extreme fuel additive. I also change the fuel filters with every T6 Rotella 10K oil change and swap out the oil filter at 5K. I get the oil analyzed at every 10k oil change and the results tell me I could go 3 to 4k miles further on the oil that I am changing. Is it overkill? Yes, but I want this truck to last. A recent change in my business model will put 3 to 4 times what I had been averaging in mileage. I pulled apart the intake at 75k and cleaned it. The intake wasn't that bad. No difference in mileage after the clean. An EGR and DEF delete with tune would be an option if I didn't live in an area that has emissions testing. My BIL has a 2014 F250 6.7 that he has deleted and he is getting 24 mpg unloaded but he is an insurance salesman that hauls a horse trailer a dozen times in a year.

All that gunk is actually from your crank case vent (CCV). It is sucked in the intake right before the turbo then goes through your intercooler then up that charge pipe into the engine. If you have that much gunk then you really should pull the intercooler out and clean it really well with dawn… and all the hoses in between… then reroute the ccv (cheap and easy) and never have to clean that stuff again.
@johnmazza94322 жыл бұрын
Where would you "reroute" the CCV ? Is there a video you suggest ?
@adamm742 жыл бұрын
@@johnmazza9432 personally I like the SPE ccv reroute kit. The kit comes with a hose that I ran along my firewall to under the driver door where it vents to atmosphere. You do have to cap off the inlet right before the turbo so air is not sucked in without being filtered.
@MikeSVOR2 жыл бұрын
No. That soot is from the EGR sucking exhaust gas back into the intake from the EGR coolers. The oil from the PCV system is harmless, unless it pools up and then sucks it in all at once. The intercooler won't have that soot in it because the EGR is right at the throttle body.
@adamm742 жыл бұрын
@@MikeSVOR Sorry mike, you are wrong. The intake from the EGR cooler is BEHIND the throttle plate. That throttle plate actually cuts off flow from the turbo creating a vacuum so that it sucks more exhaust gases into the engine from the port BEHIND the plate.. This means that the soot from the EGR never touches that throttle plate because it is immediately sucked into the engine. The only other contaminate is the CCV. This oil is also not harmless... When oil mixes with the EGR soot then it builds a film of poop through the intake. This soot coats valve stems and piston walls, causing wear on both. Oil from the CCV can also build up in the intercooler reducing its thermal efficiency. I once emptied a quart or two out of an old 7.3 intercooler. A simple diagram of the EGR system can be seen below. Hope this helps. I did the CCV reroute at 10K miles and now im at 130K with a spotless throttle plate. I pulled mine apart after I watching this video to look at it. dieselnet.com/tech/engine_egr_sys.php
@MikeSVOR2 жыл бұрын
@@adamm74 sorry dude. The soot comes from the EGR valve and even the throttle body gets dusted with its soot. There is no soot accumulated upstream in any of the pipes. The intercooler, the high pressure pipes and even the turbos are clean with only oil from the pcv system getting on them. The throttle body, egr valve and intake manifold are coated in soot from the egr valve. I know this system well. I've deleted mine and have had it apart multiple times.

Please on a scale 1-10 how much does this actually work??? And another scale 1-10 with 1 being bad for the truck, how bad is this for longer life of the engine??? Should i remove the butterfly flap??

If your 6.7 is only getting 10mpg then there is something wrong with it. My friend has one with 235,000 miles and he gets 16 to 18 mpg with NO Modifications!
@acdii2 жыл бұрын
I think the issue is the control over the gas pedal, AKA the right foot. A stock 6.7 should easily get 16 MPG empty without any mods, 2020 and up get 20 MPG, stock. I see 20 with my 2012, but I perform regular maintenance to keep the intake flowing clean. Takes half a day, but well worth it in the pocket book.

@@acdii i don't know what you talking about. i have 2020 f250 and getting 16.8 empty
@acdii2 жыл бұрын
@@evysadventures9909 Then your driving it wrong! MPG is all about the right foot and how to use it. Majority of the use for my F350 is towing, so I see 11-13 MPG, but when driving empty, or something in the bed, seeing 20 MPG is quite common, heck I have even seen 24 doing 70 MPH, and mine only has the 6 speed.
@jasonsoutdoorsports86322 жыл бұрын
@@acdii you are 💯 correct I get 20-21 mpg on the highway in my 19 350srw all stock I also purposely drive easily on it because fuel is expensive.

So the engineer’s didn’t know what they were doing when adding the flap? Braaaaahaha, I think not.

They did but it's not needed if you're running a diet truck.

@@jurezslaughter6324 It's definitely better but still have to take a trip on it. The response when stepped on is delayed. I guess due to the massive amount of air. Also a lot of more black smoke.

Just delete everything. EGR|DPF upgrade to a 5 inch turbo back, Get rid of the CP4.2, install H&S primary and secondary fuel filters, amsoil dual remote bypass filtration system, sinister coolant filtration system, upgrade IC pipes and intake manifolds, swap out all fluids to amsoil 4 life. Egr and dpf delete is easy. Install a tuner and love your truck even more. EZ Lynk ftw.

Not worth the legal reprocations. You can force into manual regen with CTS. Mine is stock with 430k and emmissions still work great , no issue. These trucks are maintenance heavy! A good cleaning I do agree with!!!
