All these foreign countries that are completing these mega projects have my upmost respect. They are creating and acting the way the United States used to be. Japan built 18 bridge connections in one year, and we can't even complete one train line in 13! The second avenue subway line in New York took 80 years to finally be built, and why? ...politics! what a joke!

Id say the biggest issue with hs2 is not the costs associated for a 15 minute shorter journey it's the amount of green belt land being destroyed in its path, and for someome that lives along the route, its a hell of alot of land and wildlife areas being destroyed

California's high speed train was projected to cost $25 billion, it is now a decade behind schedule and is projected to cost $100 billion. How much do you think it will actually cost once it's actually built? This ancient form of travel has run its course.

@@kaye_07 there is a reason private industry doesn't go into it: it isn't profitable. It isn't profitable because the public doesn't like it. @AL-lh2ht
@AL-lh2ht 2 жыл бұрын
What would the purpose of doing this?!? Because it's cool?!!!
@Sohave
@Sohave 2 жыл бұрын
@@AL-lh2ht Sort of the same logic as the one behind the Railroads crossing the US and Canada as well as Trans Siberian Railway namely opening the trade route. Millions of containers and tonnes of bulk are already moving between the Asian, European and American continent crossing the pacific ocean. Plus it gives us an alternative to plane traffic when sending people over the pacific ocean, and it can create a trade relation between the US and Russia that will help keep peace among the two nations through trade. Also it bypasses the Chinese trade routes the so called bridge and road initiative and can help secure an alternative to using these Chinese trade routes weakening a pretty heinous and influential CCP.
@abdulwasif15yearsago44
@abdulwasif15yearsago44 2 жыл бұрын
Alaska would be connected to East Russia. Both places are sparsely populated. The bridge would be atleast 20 miles which would easily cost billions of dollars. It would be a total loss.
@Sohave
@Sohave 2 жыл бұрын
@@abdulwasif15yearsago44 What you are saying would only hold merit if the connection was merely meant for people to go sightseeing between Alaska and the Kolyma region, but that is not the case it is meant to link up the rail and road network of two continents opening up new trade routes primarily for freight between Asia and Europe through the trans-Siberian railroad and the entirety of north america. a cargo ship moves at around 30-40 km/h a freight train 80-160 km/h depending on track quality and maintenance. Plus the added benefit of opening up greater viability for mining various minerals in the Kolyma region.

That they can't even get the easy least populated stretch done in time and on budget doesn't bode well for the stretches around LA and SF. They really need to just make it an underground tunnel system and make deals with the landowners to allow tracks under their property in exchange for not having to use eminent domain and losing their land completely. It's a win-win for both sides. Landowners get to keep their land except the underground rights and the govt doesn't have to spend billions buying land back. Also there would be less eyesore and noise pollution with underground trains. Which more then makes up for the increased cost of having to tunnel.

Forest city has as much as been abandoned by the developer. 2 golf courses are open and their hotel, fantastic courses and practice area, average hotel and facilities with terrible service. The main island the hotel has been deserted, all the shops/cafes have closed through covid leaving just the duty free shops open. There isn’t even a grocery store! Meaning the few hundred residents have to drive 15km to the nearest.

Limiting cars and expanding bike & pedestrian paths within urban centers while building traditional high-speed rail between urban centers would do far more to improve quality of life, reduce energy waste, and clean the environment than all these mega-projects combined - and at a cost that is orders of magnitude less. Most of these projects are pie-in-the-sky, car-centric garbage, which will accelerate global climate damage and increase economic disparity.

i hope china and all project participants wil not just say: we need road, so build it. i hope they will build smart roads with all nessessary stuff to drive 100% autonomic, with electric and hydrogen pipelines all along the roads for the future of traffic. or think about yet and bring in a smart system to "upcycle" in 50 and "update" in 20 years, when it's "over" or wehn the time for having streets for autonomic driving is really running out. (i guess some signals in the street itself are easier than AI for autonimic driving)
