Agree about the touchpad. I was so happy about the large trackpad when I bought my Macbook Pro 16, but it's too big for me. I just can't get used to using it. Always feel like I have to concentrate on where to tap rather than just using it. I think just slightly smaller, perhaps the size of that surface laptop, is just right? I never got used to the notch. I ended up using that dark bar app to make the top section true black, to hide it. Personally, I think all laptop chips are fast enough. Even the old M1 chips. But I love that the Elite chip has wifi 7 and AV1 encode and decode and keen to see what the extra AI capability can do in future. Although with Windows devs moving so slowly, I think by the time useful AI apps are good, we will have a 5 gen Elite chip in 2029 Great to finally see Windows laptops that are also quiet and doesn't lose 80% performance when unplugged. I really hope developers port their apps to ARM quickly. Still can't help but feel it might be worth using Mac for a couple more years until more apps run on ARM. IDK. After using MacOS since I bought his Mac pro 16 M1 Max, along with my Windows work laptops, I still prefer Windows for how it manages, well, windows. Especially with multiple screens too. Let's just say I finally understood why Mac users always use apps in a windowed mode. I do love that Mac OS just always feels fast and snappy. Seems like there will always be compromises on both sides. O jeez and who doesn't hate all the non stop windows updates. Damn. Might just stick with my Macbook a few more years. But this Surface does look so nice

MacBooks are excellent hardware and a great experience if you go into the entire Apple Eco system. BUT, expensive, subscription land, lack of compatibility and a poor multi-monitor/desk experience compared to Windows. Great laptop experience though. I find myself using MacOS when I travel and Windows on my desktop. I was "burned" with a $4000 16" Intel MacBook Pro which I wish I had never bought. Poor repairability, zero ability to upgrade and plenty of driver/compatibility issues which have only gotten worse over the years. And it is only four years old! For example, my year old dock worked fine in MacOS (Intel and M1) only a few months ago, but fails to recognize the external monitors correctly with the latest OS update. BS like that almost never happens with Windows. Apple drops hardware and driver support with annoying and expensive regularity and speed.

Here’s the idiocy of comments like this: 1. They’re a dime-a-dozen. Everyone who is potentially against everything Apple does will, at some point, say something like this with no proof. 2. They ignore facts - or they interpret facts as subjective opinion. So I guess if the Mac is objectively louder and has a faster processor than the Surface, it’s somehow a bias towards Apple. Hmm, well, maybe in some other universe but not in this one. 3. They also assume that if someone wasn’t “biased” towards Apple, they would simply state that the Surface is a better product, which ironically is a form of personal bias. Go figure. 🤷♂️ Unfortunately, the trend today in reviews like this (not this review), especially with Apple products, is that if one gives a positive review, that person is biased, or an Apple sheep, or a paid shill. However, if one gives a negative review of an Apple product, it would be considered an “honest and truthful review” because no “Apple kool-aid” was consumed before the review. 🙄 It never ends. Apple haters stand out like a sore thumb and they’re easy to pick apart. I just wish they would admit their dislike of Apple (sigh). By the way “instashorts”, I enjoyed how your bias was served on a platter by a certified MS engineer 🤣. Bon appetit!

You get a better chip, more RAM, miniLED, better speakers, 120Hz, more ports, etc. I see it as a no-brainer to pay the extra for the MB Pro 14 M3 Pro ATM over the MB Air. The Surface Laptop X-Elite in the UK is sold out of any model with 512GB or more. It looks like the marketing blitz has worked, as it is not under-supply, as that would be disappointing.

The traditional PC bulding with ARM is basically not exists, even if they put a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot and use any external GPU that is just ruin the whole thing, because their internal memory bandwith is 136GB/s or something, but for examle Apple M3 Max laptop has 400GB/s bandwith, and the PCIe 4.0 x16 slot only have 32GB/s, so it's like you add a HDD next to the SSD, but that only slow down everything, because all component need to wait for the slowest to finish.. you can't send 400GB/s if the slot only able to receive 32GB/s so all advantages are wasted, and slowing down the others, just because of the replaceable parts have outdated and slow connection.. Surface with Snapdragon Elite runs Windows Home Edition which is severely capped OS as it lacks safety and networking features and it cannot be compared with MacOS. So Surface is yet to surface to compete with MacBooks.

Good review, it's really great that we're seeing competitors to Apple Silicon starting to appear and viable Windows on ARM options! The AI functionality of these new Arm Windows laptops is a little disappointing, that copilot app that pops up when you press the dedicated button is just a PWA web app and isn't running locally. None of that was running on the machines NPU, I think it's currently limited to the de-noise features, co-creator in paint (button to the right of 'creator' inside the app) and live translation. Always interested in how well the bundled AI features run with the device in airplane mode, i.e. do they genuinely function on local processing only as claimed by MS?

@@philamavikane9423 That part is understandable, there are massive costs to running AI in the cloud and MS is not about to give that money away.

@@lbgstzockt8493 yes but if you can run the AI processes on device that already has the capability then it's something else.

I have found my previous surface devices to have great trackpads, and this one is pretty good, too. Crazy that there is any daylight between track responses in 2024. Feel like a nut that should have been fully cracked.
