Gary, I bought your ebook. Thanks! I'm having trouble with the Imaging Edge Mobile app. I can touch to focus, but the shutter button doesn't seem to take a still anymore (it worked on initial setup). Have you ever seen anything like this? I'm stuck!
@FriedmanArchives2 жыл бұрын
Tough to troubleshoot things like that via messaging... my first (possibly) condescending question is "is the camera or the IEM app in movie mode?"
@ViceChief2 жыл бұрын
@@FriedmanArchives Thanks for that - didn't feel any condescension. The behavior I was seeing was that the shutter button would just enable/disable tracking but never take a picture. I tried every setting/combo I could think of, as systematically as I could. In the end, I installed the IA app on another android phone, and I was able to get the shutter to fire normally. Then, when I connected again with my primary device, operation returned to normal (shutter press takes and transfers a picture). On the problematic phone, I also have Monitor+ installed, an alternative camera control app. I wonder if it could have caused this buggy behavior. I'll post back here if I observe anything interesting. Thanks again for your book, it's been a big help.

I had the EVF issue in bright sunlight. I was not on auto switch, but had chosen the EVF. It was black as was the lcd. After some research and frustration, I realized that the EVF is an OLED screen and will suffer if left on all the time!!! So it turns off and on depending on whether it senses your face at the camera. So putting tape on the camera to keep the EVF on is not a good idea!!! Please think about unintended consequences when you go about putting tape on your Ferrari!!!
@FriedmanArchives3 жыл бұрын
You're confused about the function of the tape. When placed properly the Auto Switch mode works the way it should, even in bright sunlight. It does NOT keep the EVF on all the time!!!
@markrigg66232 жыл бұрын
@@FriedmanArchives You didn't specify properly in the vid about how to put the tape on and the fact that doing it in a particular way is nessercary. So yes, it's confused a few people.

What settings do you use when you are shooting stopped down in low light? A1 keeps rack focusing and cannot acquire subject and viewfinder is grainy. I have to often shoot wide open in lower light conditions as af cannot acquire. Thanks for great tips.
@FriedmanArchives2 жыл бұрын
As I mention in the book, the A1 shoots stopped down (almost) all of the time, and therefore has more difficulty focusing even under ideal light. Under bad light there should be no expectation of legendary AF performance.
@timjenkins89432 жыл бұрын
@@FriedmanArchives I upgraded from A9 and immediately noticed worse AF performance in low light with f2.8 lenses. tested af in same condition with a9 and it didn't hunt.

6:00 Why does everyone refer to LED lights when talking about flickering lights? The problem is waaaaaaaaay older and yes there are many light sources out there that flicker that are NOT LED based. A light source either stabilizes the AC of the power outlet or not, and if not, it will flicker, easy as that. Has nothing to do with LEDs. This way people think LED is a bad thing, because it introduces new problems, but this is not true.
@FriedmanArchives3 жыл бұрын
Back in my day it used to be the domain of fluorescent lights. LED lights are considered a "new" problem because they refresh at a different frequency which happens to interfere with the silent shutter methodology.
@Lofote3 жыл бұрын
@@FriedmanArchives as said the frequency problem here is the same. It is not a "new" or LED-related problem. We have lots of old school flourescent lights / neon tubes here at the university for example, absolutely long before LEDs were invented as a light source. They have EXACTLY this problem you experience with LEDs here. They just go on and off at 50Hz (europe) or 60hz (US) AC, thats how AC power works and if the light source doesn't "save" some power for the time where there is 0V output, it will be off at that point. Very simple. The reason why the silent shutter shows those strange lines is because it takes longer to read the the sensor than 1/50s or 1/60s, while that happens the light goes off and on and off and on. And so some of your sensors lines see light and some see the off-time. Nothing to do with "synchronsiation", just too slow reading. Stacked sensors are much faster at reading so they have the problem less.
Can you use the variable shutter in the A1 to shoot at 1/48th in video?
