Yes, that is deplorable. I’ve made a comment about this to the pastors of three different Catholic Churches. I was visiting my daughter in Northern California and every church I went to had the same thing. The tabernacles were all on the side. One of the priests I talked to was a visiting bishop. This is how he responded to my comment. He said, but during mass we bring Jesus on the table. And I said, this is His house bishop and He belongs in the center of His house at all times, meaning literally and symbolically. Before I left I told him, I’m sorry bishop but what you said is not convincing to me. And I started praying about it everyday. In a matter of 5-6 months when I went back to visit my daughter and I went to the same churches I was stunned to see the tabernacles of these churches were moved to the center.... 🤭🙏😋

I am a revert after 40 years away from the church. One of the things I couldn't understand in the other churches I attended was the lack of reverence for being in Communion with Jesus. After returning to my roots, I needed to learn about the Euchrist, and what I found has touched my soul at every Mass. I believe I feel when the Holy Spirit changes that host. Many times, it puts me in tears. At first, taking the Host ny tongue felt better, but I felt the need to show my reverence by keeling with or without a kneeler. I am an Eucharistic Minister, and I question if I should be administering this sacrament. I am in awe and truly believe in His presence. I wish we would kneel at the altar in our church, but I will do what I feel led to as long as I am physically abke. 🎉

Growing up in the 70s, I became used to the traditions of kneeling at the Communion Rail, the Ringing of the Bells, both in the Bell Tower and during the Eucharistic Rite, being quiet prior to Mass starting, fasting 1 hour before Mass, going to Confession weekly, lighting REAL candles, dressing properly and respectfully (no jeans or gym shoes), waiting for the Priest and the Cross to leave at the end of Mass, before we left the pews, and all the other things you gentleman covered in this video. There is something to be said about tradition. There seemed to be more reverence for the Mass, and the fact that you are in God's House, back in the 70s. Hymns during mass coincide with movement of multiple people. Processing, presentation of gifts, communion and recession. It's to help cover the distraction of the noise made by this shuffling around. As a music minister, I do respect the desire of the parishioners to pray after receiving the Holy Eucharist. More meditative hymns should be sung during this time. The purpose of the ministry is to enrich the mass not be a distraction. Respectfully disagree with the statement that the reason we go to mass is to receive Jesus.(i.e. Eucharist). The reason we go to Mass is to worship God on high through the highest form available to human beings provided to us by Christ's Sacrifice. We enter into that sacrifice to worship Almighty God. Receiving the body, blood, soul and divinity of our Lord to be nourished is the second reason.(provided we are in a state of grace)

Our music is so polished and well known that it attracts both new worshipers and many nonCatholic music lovers. Our liturgy …including the big team of trained, robed, well groomed, highly efficient servers…of both sexes…can serve a packed house in about 10 minutes, so that the big crowd at the next mass …2 hours later…can get in. Our ONE priest…loved by Catholics and the entire city…is famous for short, Scriptural homilies. I started going to Mass again about a year ago after being away for decades. I showed up wearing a shirt, tie and a sport coat. I was a bit taken back by people showing up wearing flip-flops and shorts, men included. When I last attended Mass everyone dressed for it. I spoke with my friend about it later and she dismissed it, saying it was Florida and that was just the way things are down here. I still show up every week wearing my tie, even though there are only a couple gentlemen who wear suits and ties. I don't judge but it is a bit disheartening. I figured if Jesus took the time to invite me to His banquet the least I can do is dress for supper. Like the man here said, if all you have are jeans and tee shirts, okay, better to attend than stay home because of some dress code. But if you have the ability to buy a shirt and tie, why not wear it. It sets an example for the young people. That is the thing. A lot of the kids who attend Mass dress in their school attire, and they look better than a lot of the adults. Maybe I was just raised in a different time. When I was a kid, if a grown man showed up for Mass wearing sandals, shorts, and a tee shirt, he would have felt more than a few eyes wondering what his deal was. Call me a stick in the mud I guess. I'm easy to spot though. One of the ushers was telling another that I'm a regular at 11:30 Mass. She said I was easy to spot because I always sit near the front wearing my jacket and tie. I sit near the front because my eyes aren't what they used to be, but I dress appropriately because I was raised that way. I know a lot of the men in my parish were raised that way as well. I wish they would remember that.

I make it a point to dress up a bit for Mass, not to show off, but because I feel I should present myself in the best possible light before God. As one parishioner has pointed out, if you won't dress up for God, you won't dress up for anyone. That's a bit of a radical judgment, but I get her point. God loves us all, and He will love those who show up in jeans, T-shirts, flip-flops, etc., but I just feel, for myself, that I should give Him more. Also, I was raised in the 1950s, prior to Vatican II, and everyone dressed in their Sunday best for Mass, and I like to continue that tradition.
@polaris2992 жыл бұрын
I see the same at my church in FL. I 100% agree with dressing appropriately for mass, not flip-flops, bare midriffs, shorts and the like. As per leaving mass early! A beloved priest once was very disturbed about the heightened instance of this in the parish. So, he began his homily one Sunday, asking parishioners if they could "talk" for a moment. He began with this question: "How many of you here today have ever cheated on your spouse?" Of COURSE no hands were raised. He asked again, highlighting how in this particular church, everyone was considered "family". Still no hands were raised. He thought for a moment and offered THIS: "Those of you who have been unfaithful, may leave mass early this morning!" Needless to say, at the end of mass, no one moved! 😉

A priest at our parish used to speak of tithing and giving consists of time, talent, and treasure. You give of what you have, not what you don’t have. When will people stop praying to anyone but GOD? Totally UNBIBLICAL!!
@robertcourtemanche91853 жыл бұрын
@@cherylrawlings8875 So, for the 1.2 billionth time, Catholics do not pray to anyone but God. Catholics believe that those who are already in Heaven can also converse directly to God. So just like many non-Catholics do here on Earth, we ask for our fellow believers to pray for us. We just believe that those in Heaven can also pray for us too. And who better than Jesus' own Mother, who he had a special relationship with. And we also believe in the Biblical concept of the Gebirah, the Queen Mother, a Jewish tradition that the mother of the King held a very special position in the court. And that his mother - the Queen Mother or Gebirah, still holds this position in the Eternal court of heaven. So, please STOP with the "Catholics" pray to Mary. Cause that's not what they do - intercession of Saints (those already in heaven) is just another way of asking people (dead people) to pray for you.

@@cherylrawlings8875 wrong dumb dumb. The Catholic Church put the Bible together so I think we know better. The book of Revelation shows the saints worshipping God, singing hymns, playing instruments, making requests to Christ to avenge their martyrdom, and offering prayers for the saints on earth (Rev. 4:10, 5:8, 6:9-11). In a dream, God commanded King Abimelech to ask Abraham to intercede for him: “For [Abraham] is a prophet and he will pray for you, so you shall live” (Gen. 20:7). When the Lord is angry with Job’s friends because they did not speak rightly about God, he tells them, “Let my servant Job pray for you because I will accept his [prayer], lest I make a terror on you” (Job 42:8). James says: “Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects” (James 5:16-17). Thus, according to Scripture, God wants us to pray for one another. This must mean that prayer for one another cannot detract from the role of Jesus Christ as our one mediator with God. Try to not be so stupid. It is annoying.

@gospelnomadgirl34355 жыл бұрын
Kimberly Riddell Sweetheart, I have. You are quoting a Bible verse. And that is our standard of testing all doctrine and truth. So since there is just one church, one faith, one baptism. May want to get back to the OT and NT and the teachings of the apostles. The church -ekklesia- means the called out ones. Called out of darkness and into light. Called into salvation. The Jews weren’t saved just because they were “sons of Abraham”, they still had to accept Christ and get baptized. Neither is one a Christian simply because they claim to be. The church isn’t a structure. The church visible-is a Catholic idea. It’s the Holy Spirit who lives inside of us into which Jesus is building us into a temple of living stones and He is the chief cornerstone, Head of the Church, and High Priest in Heaven. And the baptism of the apostles. The Bible teaches a parent can bring the baby to the church to be dedicated to the Lord, like Mary and Joseph dedicated Jesus as a baby. But in order to be baptized, one needed to be hear the gospel, repent of sin, accept Christ as their own Savior, and be baptized. The word for baptism literally means to immerse. Why? Because we are baptized into His death and resurrected to new life. The water is a symbol of the grave. So no babies, no sprinkling.

Not all churches can be so lucky, let alone have a regular priest at a small parrish. It's difficult to attend outside masses now because our local masses were so special. Our priest regularly demanded confession, kneeling for accepting the Eucharist and not showing up late and leaving early. There's too much butt kissing to undisciplined, uncommitted Catholics. Too many modern priests allow mediocrity in the Faith in order to stay relevant. It's a big mistake. People with Faith crave great Faith and true devotion to Christ. We don't want to be appeased and admonished for non-commital faux faith. We desire Truth. Let the weak and mediocre leave. Be true to God and allow the Holy Spirit an authentic place in your heart.

1 When at Mass your conscious is invoking the Holy Spirit .Clapping is breaking your conscious contact with God .At the end of the Mass its okay to clap and celebrate Childrens First Communion etc.The Church is for praying not talking .A regular update on what is happening with the money be open about it .What the Priest does with his money thats his own business .Its not a good idea to shake hands peace be with you when the flu is about .We should be told to cross our hands and just say the words .When giving a Sermon relate the meaning of the Old and NewTestament and Gospel .Teach us how to handle resentments ,Teach us how to pray .Teach us its okay to be angry ,Teach us about grief .Teach us about how we get to heaven .Teach us to live with our bad relatives .Teach us how to defend our faith with all these sex problems the Church is having .Bring the bible into peoples lives in a practical way.Teach People to pray in the Church in silence .In the case of alcohol and drug addiction refer them to medical profession and you will pray for them daily .Have a member of the Church in the front office so the Church can be open for people to pray in through the day .These are just a few suggestions .I would like for Priests to study Psychology so they can seperate the Medical Problem from a Religious Problem and guide the faithful to pray daily if they can when they have these problems .Try not to fix the world but try and help Catholics who are having a hard time money ,abortion ,alcohol and drug problems within the family ,Catholics with disfunctional families .Familes that cant afford to go to Catholic Schools ,The Priest may need to refer these people to Catholic Professionals .The Priest is the Shepard we are sheep when one is lost he goes and looks for us .I love going to the Mass and the Church to pray its the greatest gift we have in our lives .

I see young girls with low cut blouses and extremely short dresses. The priest can't miss seeing down her blouse. I would like to see the priest deny communion. That is the only way to take a stand.

When I was studying in South Africa, the Catholic church I went to did the Sign of Peace while the gifts were being brought up to the altar. I felt like that was a much better place for it.

Isn’t that changing the order of Liturgy?

Ay, I want to start off by saying, I don't want to sound like I am just picking on what you are all saying. First, letting laypeople preach and do the homily is a big NO-NO! You know who else does that, protestants ( no offense, ex-protestant here for 20 years). As the years go by, I keep noticing that some Catholic churches want to look more and more like protestant churches. The music, the preaching, the talking before and during mass. The tradition of the church is not just an old school thing, it is what separates us from this modern Christian religions.

I hadn't been to Catholic mass in 40 years before I started dating my husband Ann wife was shocked by some of the changes like taking away the "also with you" . Also my mother dragged me to a lot of born again Christian churches and that's where people hold hands and put their hands in the air while doing our father as a child I remember that we just held our hands in prayer and I still hold my hands in prayer now I don't like all the hand holding

Standing during the invocation of the Lamb of God bothers me most about my parish.

I do that as I can't stand the applause for the musicians at the end of Mass. One should only applaud the Lord in His house.

LM ends with the 1st chapter of John followed by 3 Hail Marys, Hail Holy Queen, a prayer, St. Michael the Archangel prayer, and at my church, we say the Rosary before Mass.

Did they mention the insipid hand holding or arms out by parishoners during the Our Father? Because that certainly is NOT part of the liturgy. But how do you stop it?

fantom58 I’m new I’m in RCIA. What’s wrong with holding your palms up while seeing the our father. And saying to the priest and with your spirit etc.

That is going on since the first Jews became Christians. Just because your English customs are influenced by the coldness of your Northern European culture doesn't mean the rest of the Church stopped that custom.

Liz Farra thank you for the reply. I’m learning so much and I’m very sad that I won’t get to officially go into full communion with the church as I’ve been looking forward to at Easter. But God definitely has other plans. At least I’ve got to go to my first confession already. ❤️❤️
