Thanks Alux! I had the pleasure of visiting Santorini at the beginning of September 2018. It was SPECTACULAR!! I enjoyed some of the most wonderful meals, decadent wines and beautiful views! I also had the pleasure of working with a local photographer during my visit, who captured some amazing, breathtaking photos of me in the lovely town of Oia. 1627-1600 BCE are the dates (1600 BCE is largely agreed upon) of the eruption based on carbon dating. 1500 BCE was eliminated and is biblically based. Megatsunami of around 425 metres at tallest is theorised to have hit Crete based on mathematical and computer-generated models. It didn't directly lead to the downfall of Minoans but it did contribute to theirs, and 4 others including Egyptian civilisation, over a period of 1500 years or so. It certainly played a major part but no remains have ever been found. In all likelihood, these were swept out to sea, incinerated or worse. It was a quick death for the victims. Most would've been dead well before the megatsunami hit Crete due to suffocation or ash inhalation.

Did nobody mention that it is a nightmare to be in when the Cruise Liners arrive ? That they have drugged animals and children being used to beg on the streets ? That the footpaths and roadways are dangerous underfoot, that you take your life in your hands when walking near traffic ? That was last week, it was a lovely destination but it is crowded and not a pleasant experience.

Most stunning views and instagram photos. The food is expensive and not fresh. The wines are not even close to the best in the world, what an insult to wines. Especially santo winery are terrible. The views however from Santo are spectacular. The Crete winery we visited was far more delicious. Diamantakis I would highly recommend on crete.
