Actually, the reason why beerus destroyed half of the planet was because, in the manga, the one who coordinated the feast for beerus actually put a deadly poison which was an attempt to kill beerus, beerus actually tasted the poison, but it had no affect on him, so he kept eating and when he finished, he makes a comment on the poison the used against him, he said something on the lines of " you really think you can kill me with that poison?" Everyone started to freak out once beerus said that, the guards all raised their weapons to shoot beerus ( they had crossbows) so beerus then destroyed half of the planet because they tried to kill him.

I really enjoyed the episode where Lord Beerus prevents Bulma from finishing the time machine. He actually does his job for once and whether Bulma realizes it or not, he does her a favor by destroying her work. If she had finished the time machine despite being told not to, I think Beerus would have to destroy her. That of course would NOT go over well with, well, ANYONE in the Z fighters camp.
