What's your favorite decor trick for making a hallway more than just a pass through space? I'm finalizing my design plans and getting back to work to finish up our hallway makeover. I'd love to hear your ideas! See you Sunday with the next episode. 💛

How do you answer people who say not to paint it dark bc it’s already such a small space
@evergreenerin9 ай бұрын
I can’t explain why… painting the doors looks so much better than painting the walls….. whyyy though!

Another note: I love how you added encouragement and tips for how to accomplish it and help me get over the hump of starting a project ❤

I’m just the opposite! I’m a 95%-er. I start my project, throw my entire self into it up until the last 5%, that I sometimes don’t complete until absolutely necessary. 🤭

The previous homeowners wrecked the ceilings in our home in the kitchen, dining and living room. They were popcorn to begin with. They took down square light fixtures from 1961, and replaced them with round ceiling fans. Their patchwork was beyond lousy. They didn’t even try to make it look decent. There was a long crack from a useless beam that we took down, a large hole in the kitchen ceiling that wasn’t patched…🤦♀️ So, I had the idea-yes, I was proud that it was my idea, to just cover it all up with beadboard and firring strips. It looks amazing! It was a lot of work, but far easier and more beautiful than scraping, patching, repainting… We’ve now just sold our house. The ceilings were a wonderful selling feature! 👍🏼🥳

I have a long narrow staircase similar to hallway its very dark too with just 1 small sconce. Thanks for the ideas

Hey, glad you liked the ideas! I totally get the struggle of a dark staircase. You might want to consider adding some motion sensor lights to brighten up the space. Let me know if you need more tips!

@@LindsayLiving Thank you, I will look into the motion sensor lights. Thank you! 🩷

Can you do a video on how to figure out patterns for doing applied moldings. There is a room off our entry that would look wonderful with applied wall moldings. I know doing the actual work is not that difficult but deciding how to lay it out is stopping me from taking this on. I need an architectural element in that room. I will paint the applied molding the same color as the wall--subtle touch but it will really visually change the room.

That's a fun idea! I haven't done that project yet myself but plan to add some panel molding to some areas of our home in the future. I will definitely make a video about the process once I do!. Thanks for wathcing!

The library hallways are my favorite. :) Thanks for the info about door trim kits...I didn't know about that and will be looking at options soon. Could you talk about how you transport the doors you get at salvage yards? Do you rent a UHaul truck? Use an app to hire a delivery service? Borrow a big vehicle from a friend? The hauling is the difficult part for me (especially during the fall and winter rainy season).

Aren't they fun!!! If our hallway was just the tiniest bit wider we could consider it, but for now I have some other ideas. I love to admire the creative ideas people come up with, especially in such small spaces. As far as hauling my husband drives an SUV and we haul doors in there pretty easily. If the hatch doesn't close we just use tie downs to hold the door closed. Some places do delivery for an additional fee, U-haul trucks aren't too expensive for a couple hours in town, or if you have a friend or family member with a truck usually people enjoy helping others. I've also used a delivery app but found it was way more expensive than any other option.
@amyg.8592 Жыл бұрын
@LindsayLiving thank you! An SUV makes a lot of sense. It sounds like delivery apps aren't really that great of an option (maybe better somewhere else, like NYC). And someone should tell architects to make hallways wide enough for shelves! Mine are too narrow for books too, but I can still drool over photos of library hallways in others' homes. :)

I have a litle hallway with white floor and no windows it is a T form do not know what to do...

A little hallway with a white floor and no windows? It's like a blank canvas waiting for your imagination to run wild! Let's turn it into a masterpiece. I'm obsessed with the idea of turning my hallway into a mini art gallery with beautiful artwork and some battery operated picture lights to add ambient light to an otherwise dark and dull space. Try a runner to add some more color and interest and disguise your floor. Just one idea. It's a fun challenge!

@@LindsayLivingwe have a new place that has a long, narrow hallway, and that is my first priority, to make that a masterpiece! I’m not sure what yet, but it’s 10’ tall, so I’m thinking picture frame molding, tall baseboards, crown molding, color-saturated, maybe a wallpaper mural, and either dropped track lighting, or pendants - there’s so much opportunity! That, and the powder room. “You never get a second chance to make a good first impression.”
