I'm loving all these upstart kids making waves. Abdusattorov winning the rapid championship, Sindarov scorching through top players in the blitz, now Roebers -- an untitled player at the tournament's start! -- taking this open. The future of chess is bright.

It could be because of the from OTB "hiatus" rather than in spite of it: More time to study/train, play against a variety of opponents and have easy access to top notch engines (and post game analysis).

What I love most about watching these young prodigees is they that seem to play with almost no preconceptions because most of them did not go through the traditional chess education that had been in place for so long. It gives a very instinctual playstyle with a level of creativity that I don't think previous gms ever had and also often makes them especially deadly in speed chess.

Virtually all the newest players are not good in spite of a tradition, but because of it. It’s easier now than every to have the tools and tutors required to excel at a young age, and that’s what these players are doing. Older games had strange “creative” open positions like this one very frequently too.

I want to suggest that as you go through the moves, when you demonstrate moves that might have been made, change the colors of the board's squares to show that you are in speculation mode. I find it can sometimes be difficult to differentiate which are the actual moves and which are speculation. Changing the board square colors would solve that. Thank You for showing us so many great chess games!

6:59 "And we finish this position with white being up a pawn. And it's a passed a-pawn. So this will be definitely advantageous for white." White is up two pawns, but down the exchange, having the bishop pair and a rook vs. two rooks and a bishop. And black also has a passed pawn, a c-pawn two squares from promoting - although I'm not sure if it's reasonable for black to try to defend it, with white's rook and king right near it; maybe with a rook on c8, and pushing it to c2 with the bishop protecting it.

Apropos the David Bronstein quote above the board, since computers are nerveless they have an unfair advantage. So in order to give us humans equal chances against them, they should be made nervous. An anxiety dial could be turned up at awkward moments, causing memory blanks, incorrect analysis and over eagerness. That ought to do the trick.

I had the lazy idea of doubling up the rooks in the final position. That just gives black mate in 3 with Rhc7 Qf4+, Kh3 Qh6+, Bh4 Qxh4#. If you give the suggested check in the video white runs out of useful checks, has to sac to prevent promotion on the c file, black runs the a pawn down the board and uses the threat of it to probably collect white's bishop etc.

For future vids: the "oe" in Roebers is pronounced as the "oo" in "good". Don't worry those Dutch dyphtones are hard as hell, you should see the struggle some kids have trying to learn them for writing.

Another person seems to be saying like oo in school. Which is unlike the short oo in good or rook. I feel like the short oo would end up sounding like Rubbers at some point... Are you sure it's like "good"?
@zwamman
@zwamman 2 жыл бұрын
@@timdecious9386 yes, it's indeed more like school or tool than like good, you're right. To be even more precise (and childish): it's the 'oo oo' a monkey makes :)

They could still castle queen side. You can't castle in check, into check or through check but none of those would apply in that situation. This is something lesser experienced players often get confused about
