I agree with the suggestion that it would be cool to hear all the submissions. More fun for the whole community...and this is a community building exercise, at heart. Maybe post them on your website?

No offense Miss Krystle but can you please send the a-cappella without all the effects on it? It’s incredibly difficult to work with it as given. Edit: You can keep the autotune but please take away the delay, reverb and distortion. Thanks.

Thanks for agreeing. I also tried to “de-effect” the vocals but it was too hard and I’m an intermediate producer… imagen beginners! I sent her an email through her Miss Krystle website. Maybe you can too so she gets as much attention to this issue as possible.

Just a quick suggestion for future contests... depending on the volume of submissions there's a chance there'll be far too many of them for you guys to physically listen through, meaning many people could be sinking up to 2 weeks of their life creating something that doesn't even get heard by you guys never mind the audience here. I hear and appreciate the mights and maybe suggestions about potential future collab work but that isn't a guarantee, the only guarantee for the 1 winner is $150 and that's just not worth the time. So my suggestion would be to take ALL of submissions, and publish a randomised 30 second sample of each remix to your website and let the audience listen to them, you can still have the final say but at least people know their work will have a solid chance of being heard by their peers and not just lost into a black hole after submission. I weighed up the time investment vs benefits of having a go at this contest myself and like I said in my other comment, the 'fun' element to this is dampened because after I submit, there's a very very high chance nobody will ever hear what I've created, that eliminates the fun of it for me personally. Just a suggestion though, good luck!

This sounds fun. It's hard to get good stems to practice with. Update : Oh, bummer. The 'stems' are just the vocals. I was hoping for all the instruments each on a separate track. That's what I think of when I hear 'stems'. I'm learning mixing/mastering so I can't really do much with just the vocals. Oh well.

I like the wav version better it truly sounds alot different because of cakewalk glitches. reused your voice but I think that is within the spirt of the contest. I also used landers synth x. Truely with the vocals it can be good if it glitches out a little to stay out of the way of the vocals and then solo give the singer a rest. Much different than the Madonna remix I tried to do.

I just entered a remix contest for Label Radar and the Top prize is $10,000 not saying anything just sayin. Maybe sweeten the pot a little bit, artists and the music industry have taken a hard hit in the last year.

This is interesting ánd could be the subject of a "rights" video. If you offer stems to others to create derivative works, how does that affect use of your song? By offering stems, would that not grant them the right to use them? I'm asking because I like the idea of others remixing my songs, but it seems like it would give them rights as derivative works. They would own the master (most of it) of their own version and would share in publishing of the new work, similarly as if someone would cover a song. The difference would be using your stems, of course, that contain the melody, lyrics and recorded version of the vox.

This is a contest for fun first and foremost. If your schedule is too busy to participate, then don't participate. I am also a producer and I absolutely do not see this as "work for free". The artist offers the fruit of his work so that we can have fun with it. The song is cool, the artist does not ask you for revision and you have no artistic constraints from a label. Basically, you do what you want. I made my version, it took me 3 hours in total, I had fun and it's always interesting to dive into the universe of another artist . Music is an art above all. And art is also sharing and connecting between people. If, as a producer, your goal is only financial, well, there is plenty to do in 2024. It has never been easier to publish your music and find artists willing to pay for a good producer. No need to come and complain in the comments of a KZbin video.

@@DedVerse The fact that the rules state no samples or anything suggests the remix will or might get published to DSP's for commercial gain... so you could argue this isn't even a contest, it's kinda exploiting cheap labour in a way. Very very cheap labour. I wouldn't get out of bed for $150 for a days work never mind potentially 2 weeks of work, and with all due respect the shout-out on a channel this small isn't going to amount to much. If this is purely being done for KZbin content then fair enough, it's a bit of fun, but if the remix gets published to Spotify or sold direct-to-consumer then it makes this all a bit shady in my opinion.
