There’s a special place in hell for [most] major record labels.

Thanx again sis.. I'm slowly tip toein my way in, but I wanna learn all I can 1st, & contiue learnin as I go. Makin music is simple, but learnin the business side is challengin as heck.. It's sounds like record labels are sharks like credit cards.. No wonder Prince xposed them... Please do a video on how Prince treated the music industry, exposed & challenged them, If any1 had insight, Prince definitely had alot of insight on the game. I often ask myself, "If Prince were still with us(God rest his soul), how would he handle this situation?" He(Prince) said years ago "My best music is in the vault, I'm not givin it to record companies so they can become rich." Alot of artist should study Prince's music business decisions, he knew alot, may b too much.. Listen to several interviews from the ppl who worked with him, it can definitely inform u. He called alot of this out back in the 90s b4 the internet barely got started, & continued to til he departed. We thought he was trippin, but obviously he was right. Blessins on u sis..

The sync licensing industry is declining as well

INTERPOLATION is STEALING!! If an artist borrows, as you put it, ONLY a melody, but that melody is copyrighted, then permission must be obtained, or else there's infringement.

FACT CHECK: You need a license to do cover tunes. Artists have the right to control performances of their work (regardless of whether the performer slows down the tempo...)

This is the end for mediocre music and showing off so called artists. The music industry with all its downfalls would transform and adapt as it has always done. Am I the only one to see that all these complaining people are black or rap music related ? It would be interesting to have other insights from different genres and music culture

Sounds like these companies need investigating on abuse of process with SLAPP suits, Malicious Prosecution, Prosecutorial Misconduct, Lawfare, or the classic classic frivolous lawsuit.

It's almost like people forgot why we made the world wide web to begin with. It's to share information. Period.

A couple months ago Master P came in my job by himself and sat in the lobby to do a zoom meeting. It was odd.

I've been a gigging musician for 24 years now and am transitioning to songwriting and possibly doing an album to showcase my work. Although there are resources in my area, I find it's more about networking and more advanced stuff instead of beginner information like what you need to do to even get started. This course looks like it might answer a lot of my questions.

So basically they're prepared to take your royalties. Now even though I paid the 20 something dollars to get my music out there. I haven't posted any of my music. So that's going to be a delay because now I have to do further research. Because I don't want to set myself up to have my royalties stolen..

I walked away from a Major Label offer in 2012. to raise my Son. Smart decision on my part. That band that I walked from got into some 'incidents'--the singer got cancelled--and the band imploded.

Thanks for this, I do photography and we deal with the same types of intellectual property/royalties issues and there's a lot of the solutions and advice you offer that applies to us as well.

Can't say it loud enough. Labels are LOANING you money.

I think we are just in an age where the label is obsolete because of can produce and promote themselves without the need for a middle man.

noting that w*yback is not without its ability to be 'altered'. Ive heard many claims of where 'higher powers' are able to modify what is on the w*yback machine.

It's not a cover - it's the original audio from the song - vocal and all. They are lip syncing to the actual song and not a cover.

You know what? You can only put out this kind of music for so long before people start to not feel it no more. They talk about the same thing over and over and over with the different beat. So what do you think they're going to expect it's not like it used to be. Also a lot of people made a lot more money when it was Vinyl and CD. Now someone can go download your music for free. So how would you expect someone to make any money then. That's why you see these artists now offering their music only on their websites.

Hearing this about Snoop is eye-opening, infuriating and, finally, thankful he is so open about what happened to him. So, my little story: I co-wrote a top ten hit in the ‘80’s. I was not a pro musician at the time. I was an actor. But, I was lucky enough to have had Frank Zappa visit my high school’s Music Appreciation class (yes, that long ago). One thing he said stuck in my teenage brain, tho I didn’t understand it at the time. When asked about making it in the music industry, his answer was, “Keep your publishing.” I co-wrote a song with my GF, who was in a very big ‘80’s all girl band (you figure it out). The band broke up, but our song ended up as the breakout record for the lead singer’s solo career. I kept my publishing - And, I still make money on that song. Movie & TV placements, Classic rock/pop radio, and quarterly ASCAP checks for BOTH writers and publishing royalties. Thank you so much, Krystal, for this channel.
