Hey, I know I'm a year late to this but I own both and the 840a's smoke the K371 in just about every category. Bass extension, soundstage, detail and even build. The K371 is _not_ a good headphone and I'm not sure why it gets the hype that it does...
@ReinoRankaisija

Thanks for this dude. I'm just returning my newly bought k371 because they are borderline unusable. They feel like 50 buck cans and the sound is hollow, thin, harsh and lacks power. Just awful headphones. Looking into the shures atm.

Thanksfor the Comparo - I'm planning on getting both of these... absolutely love both designs.. have Shure 940's on the way. But i like the 840A's design more. right now my main studio headphones are 600ohm AKG K240's, ATH M20x and Akai 50x (Tascam TH07, Marantz something something rebrand)

@@showdodoc yes I have both. I prefer the 940 sound... wish I could swap the 840A headband onto the cups.. lol. it makes a weird almost undetectable creaking noise.. if the 940 had a more sturdy headband. and regular 2.5mm cable without the T lock. it would be the perfect sub $200 closed back.

epos h6 pro open is best gaming headphone but it’s like $180 for competitive games. imaging is better than anything i have heard, but if your not playing like fps games i would use the shure 840a, imaging is okay just not insane like epos h6 pro is

Been considering one of those cans, but haven't decided yet. Isolation is major factor for me and I've heard Rode aren't isolating very good for closed cans. What are your impressions when it comes to this particular area?

Of headphones $500 and under used on ebay what would be your pick from Fostex T50rp or any of its variants(With small portable amp, not a big amp), Grado wireless, Meze 99 neo, Rode, Sony Z7, Focal Celestee, Audiotechnica?, B and O or any other Japanese or American headphones that can be used portable and at home? I don't like headphones that are boomy and have a lot of bass. I also don't like v-shaped. I want something natural with good soundstage.

ATH-R70X if your still looking, very natural yet smooth sounding. Love them for mixing and producing because they give me an accurate representation of whats going on without sounding harsh or boring. Due to their build they feel like nothing on my head and have a great soundstage, but that also makes them unsuitable for outside use(although they can get powered by my phone just fine without an amp).

You description of NTH-100 sound very similar to HD650/6XX: Forward, lush mids, rolled off but present bass and treble, mid to narrow soundstage, precise imaging. Those are the words commonly used to describe 650/6XX too. NTH-100 = Closed back HD650?! 😱😱😱
