@@AtomicPixel Letting it grab focus and then locking it off is the way to go. Mapping AF lock to button 7 (the button on the side handle) makes it easier.

My colleague and I were just discussing this. I dislike the plastically look and jittery feel of watching 4K films. I do agree that 4K is great for music videos but for film I love the classic look and motion blur that 1080 offers.

@@TechnoBabbleOf course shooting at a higher resolution also makes for more detailed motion blur. It's still blurry because, well, it's blurry, duh, but still has more information than 1080p videos and therefore the motion blur is softer as well.

I've got my C100 mkII in December 2015 and sold it in April 2021. I miss this camera. I worked with ARRI, RED, C300 mkII, but I miss how fast you could work with this camera. Run n gun! Also image quality was incredible.

Great video! I absolutely love the c100 mark II. It has aged incredibly well. It's almost the PERFECT camera for small high school, summer camp, or college film programs because the files are so easy to edit, the camera is so rugged, and the form factor makes it is easy to learn.

I think what I'd really want is a C200 Mk-II with some proper 10-bit 4:2:2 codecs. Having to choose between RAW and 8-bit feels strange, since even a lot of professional shooters would take 10-bit over RAW for the simpler workflow and storage savings. I suppose the C70 kind of fills that role for most people though.

Still using this camera today, love it. Keep thinking I want something newer but hard to justify anything much better than this, and especially at the price. I also think it has better low light quality than it was given credit for here. I've seen footage shot outside at night that's still amazing . Who needs 4k anyway when 99.9% of us are just shooting for online streaming, most of which is viewed on a phone.

You can use very cheap lightweight EF-S IS lenses since The C100 M2 has a Super-35-Sensor. Image stabilization is a game-changer in run and gun. Love the Canon 10-18mm 4.5-5.6 IS STM on this Camera.

I used to mainly shoot with a Panasonic GH4 and G7 but I found a barely used C100 Mk II on eBay back in November and it has been my favorite camera to shoot with. So many featured packed into this thing and it feels so good to hold, too! It has made my video workflow so much more efficient and the quality is amazing! An absolute workhorse of a camera!

Still use my 2 C100 Mark II's every week for weddings, corporate, and pro video shoots. The image and DPAF is still amazing to this day especially if you don't have to deliver in 4k. Going to update to C70's soon but I will always keep my C100MKII's forever!

You forgot another difference between the C100 I and II, the two has a built in mic on the body, so you can get scratch audio even without the handle or a mic attached. Seems small but it screwed me over on a shoot where the DP didn't realize that. Cool vid. I bought the C100 II at the beginning of 2020.

We run a C300iii and C70 but kept hold of our 2 C100ii’s because they’re still so versatile and produce a beautiful image. Probably my favourite camera, long live the C100ii.

Used this camera as everyday workhorse for over 2 years. If you nail exposure and WB, the clog it delivers its gorgeous. The battery lasts almost all day and so does one 64gb SD Card. The 8bit only is a bummer but its easily the best 8bit i'll ever see. You can easily jack this thing up to 2400 ISO and it still looks fine! Wouldnt buy this for myself but it's reliable, ergonomic and just a pleasure to use.

I got a great deal locally in Michigan, a camera+Lens+5 batteries+charger + little rig body cage + a water and air sealed hard carrying case. for $1850 . I took it to my two months overseas trip. The results was unbelievable, just the fact that it looks professional it was a easy pass to many events that I didn’t have tickets for also clients takes you way seriously!! than showing up with a DSLR or Mirrorless.

I've been shooting with the C100 mkII for close to 7yrs now and love it. Best camera I've ever owned. It just gets the job done without any fuss and it is built like a tank. The only negative is its shape and weight (kinda top heavy even when stripped down) makes it challenging to fly on a gimbal. I can only last a few minutes at a time before my arm feels like its going to fall off. I now have an XC10 as a B camera and for gimbal use and it is so easy to match with the C100 (although the XC10 is not great in low light).

We still have one of these and use it ALL THE TIME. If you are shooting only 1080p and looking for a new camera. Don't buy a new one....get one of these! Hands down best used deal anywhere. I just replaced mine a month ago. The C100's a great camera that can really take a beating, I put mine thru hell. That said, the lack of 10bit & 4K, plus the fact that the auto-focus is only centred really limits it in 2021. I wish the C70 would have been a better replacement (no full-frame, no EV, and kinda expensive). Had to go with Sony A7S3. Nice vid, tho.

Got one with 29 hours on it in damn near mint condition for around $1600, kitted it out with an 18-35 Sigma 1.8, Rails, Matte Box, Follow Focus, and it is absolutely stunning. Hands down the C100 MKII is the best 1080p camera ever made thus far. I purchased it about 4-5 years ago and it is still a workhorse. For more serious work such as feature films and commercials, I defer to my Ursa Mini Pro. But for corporate talking heads, reality show pitches, low budget indie's, and any job that requires 1080p deliverables, this camera can't be beat. I will never sell mine and am actually looking to buy a used 2nd one after years of owning the first one. I can easily see myself continuing to use it for years to come. It's that solid and proven.

It's nice for sure, but you can also get an R7 now for about the same price. It shoots 10-bit, has still photos, in-body image stabilization, even better autofocus, and, of course, has 4K up to 60 fps as well as 1080p up to 120 fps. You can even get an XLR add-on for it. The only reason to get the C100 Mark II now is for the built-in ND filters and the ergonomics. And, if anyone could rig it up properly to improve the ergonomics, it's Caleb. So, by the time you kit out an R7, it could get a bit more expensive, but it's still worth it to get the improved video specs.

Great little cam but I still prefer the image coming out of the C300 (mk I). 50mbps 8bit 4.2.2 was a bit more usable in post. 1080p60 and AF were nice tho.

I have been using this as my main cam for the past 2 years. I pair it up with an EOS R in clog1 as my b-camera (and gimbal cam). The XLRs on the C100 are a godsend for corporate interviews. Also, I can just throw on an XLR shotgun mic with a 70-200 lens, and I’m all set for event work.

I'm sure someone else has mentioned it in these comments, but the a6400, while 8bit, is kind of an unfair comparison since the reason the 4K is sharp is because it's oversampled from a 6K sensor. Figured I'd point that out, but either way...the C100mkii still looks great in 2023 if you upscale the footage to 4K.

I don't like how you can't have the body up against your body for extra stabilization, since the LCD is on the back; you have to hold it out in front of you more. I prefer the FS5 where you can have it further up on the handle and have the camera against your chest.

I was close to upgrading to C70 but instead kept my C100ii and instead got new (used) lenses, more audio gear and Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter that makes this camera even better. Btw if you are looking for a stabiliser I'd recommend the Zhiyun Crane 3S, flies this camera fully rigged no problem even w the screen etc
