Impressive no doubt, but 0-60 is more of a headline figure. Obviously out in the real world an M5 would slaughter an RS3 speed wise. Quarter mile trap speed and in gear/ roll acceleration numbers give a better indication of a car’s real world speed.

Very good job with your two Audi RS 3 videos and I've sent links to friends who admire our 2019 Audi RS 3. We've put 33k miles on it thus far and aside from putting much better 18-inch 245/40/18 wheels/tires the RS 3 has been a significant pleasure. The stock 235/35/19 tires/wheels were a very poor performing arrangement which we replaced within 3 days of buying the RS 3! We're retired so spend typically 3 days a week running country back roads and now have 33,109 miles on the Audi. Great machine indeed and certainly glad we bought it. Keep up the good work and reviews, certainly great to learn more about high performance aspects, versus the typical foo-foo nonsense other many automobile reporters/writers waste my time with. Keep up the great detail reporting that you do!
@rodpaine75522 жыл бұрын
Now at 42,217 total miles with 30,396 miles being fast country back road runs 3 days a week as weather permits, the Audi's performance has been flawless and we're very happy with its performance. New Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 245/40/18 tires going on very soon, as the current Michelin A/S3+ 245/40/18 have just about reached their end at 3.5 mm remaining tread depth. A great vehicle indeed and certainly the best I've had during my now 64 years of fast automobiles and driving on many country back roads in VA, W VA and southern CA. Certainly a great automobile!

As a serial BMW owner, I have to say, this is the first RS3 that I feel a real 'want' for. Seeing as BMW have ruined their own hot hatch line up, I can see one of these as my next car. I don't get the whole obsession with 0-60 times that owners seem to be so fascinated with, I couldn't give a shit if I'm honest, anything under 6 seconds is plenty, but the driving experience and fun-factor of a hot hatch is what attracts me.

I can understand people going on about the price of the RS3......the same is said about the RSQ3 and the TTRS. But that is the price you have to pay for a bit of exclusivity. The superb 5 pot stands alone in a sea of turbo 4 pots and a few 6 cylinder competitors. The 5 pot is not a beneficiary of mass production and, unfortunately, a premium will have to be paid in terms of a bit of that rare exclusivity in todays car market......It's an awesome piece of engineering!

It is a different league to the golf R. 80hp and 80nm more and 0.7sec quicker to 60 (3.8 for RS3 and 4.5 for Golf R I believe). Is the base RS3 worth the extra money compared to a fully loaded Golf R, yes probably on performance but depends on what comes standard on the car and what equipment you want, ie satnav. But spec for spec with the Golf R or S3, I’d personally save the money as a Golf R or S3 is more than enough for the road and still a very nice car, and spec for spec best part of 15k cheaper

Barely a price difference in the US. I’m torn. I know the Audi is basically a souped-up VW, but its really an excellent souped-up VW! And I’m thinking that’ll also keep repair costs from becoming insane later. LOTS of tuning potential for the Audi’s MQB platform too. Less familiar with the BMW. The M240i appears to be a notch above the Audi out of the box, but with a couple options it is more expensive. I had a 3-series years ago that ran great, but when it did finally develop expensive German problems, each trip to the shop was measured in $1000s it seemed. I’ve got a Mk7 GTI now and it experienced common MQB failures (hello, thermostat-I’m talking to you) but these were easily and inexpensively remedied. Leaning towards the Audi-perhaps for familiarity. No losers here.

Great review, as always thanks. When you mention the 0-60 time 3.4s, was it actually 0-62 (i.e.100kmh)? There are quite a number of videos out there which show 0-100kmh times significantly below the 3.8s, one even a difficult to believe 3.1s.

I've noticed if people use the timing gear built in to the Audi, it shows a much faster 0-60 time.

Joe really value your opinion as you give such informative all round review covering all aspects of ownership. Can you please do a review of the upcoming Lotus Emira please. Would love a response to show you do read your followers comments. As asked quite a few questions on your various videos and not had any replies yet Thanks

What about the cabin noise? As you don't say I suppose yes, to much to travel more than a 1000 of kilometers

Joe, between a fully-specced out S3 Vorsprung and an M240i xDrive, which would you take home as a daily driver?

Great car Joe. Don't know why people complain about the price if an rs4 is 75 grand there's no reason why a top specced one of these should nt be 60K although Audi should bring that RS design package over here, come to think of it they could do with offering something similar on the RS6 which has a mega boring interior!
