I bought the same kit for my Mongoose Malus. Rode it a block and back. Realized the way I had mounted the battery over the rear wheel was a non starter - weight distribution was hideous. Also bought hydraulic disks. The throttle on the voilamart is rubbish - I twisted it right off. Bought some ferro fluid for the hub motor - I'm going to upgrade the controller soon. I did end up having to upgrade my rear derailleur. I was on my way out the door with it, lost my balance and bounced it on the ground and smashed the derailleur. I found it still peddlable even with the motor off, though I probably wouldn't want to charge a hill that way.
@TexasNEV2 жыл бұрын
Yikes! Yep the battery on the back is no-bueno.. It is do-able if it is a small entry level 24v system but other than that, yeah the CG / weight distribution is horrible. Glad you're ok!

You kind of need the motor cut offs on the breakes on technical trail riding for the pedal assist, both my ebikes keep pushing for a full three seconds after you stop pedaling,
@TexasNEV Жыл бұрын
Agreed, but that particular motor doesn't seem to do that. Moot though, as even if I wanted to use the ebrake handles, I couldn't because the brake handles and shifter are integrated together as one unit.. Not impossible, would have required significant rework. As you can see in later videos, I moved on to much more powerful kits that I have built to my specifications now.

@TexasNEV3 жыл бұрын
@@MTCKIE68 Well the commentary came across very negative without context. Just because you've never heard of it, doesn't make it "cheap". The only thing that I did mention to my customer was spoke maintenance on the rear wheel and that could be a concern. The 1500 w/ hub motor conversions are common on E-Bay and have lots of positive reviews. Hub motors are generally water resistant and the speed controller has rubber seals and is in a bag. The items have a 1 year warranty and I expect the supplier to honor that in case of failure. The person who bought it is an active rider but I don't call him to ask him how much he rides his bike. :)
