I finished mine last week, similar 1500 Watt kit, only on a Trek Marlin 6. Went for the first real test ride yesterday, as I was soaring I was grinning so hard I almost broke my head in two. I should've done this years earlier: it literally cut my travel time in half and I hadn't even hit assist level 5 😂 I did finish the brake sensors first before any serious testriding though, I noticed the brakes do very little as long as the motor is still providing power, almost got meself killed on the first few tests around the block 😅 I have the same battery wobbling problem, I'm considering putting an extra screw in there as the 2 bottleholder screws are at the bottom so the top half of the battery is basically unsupported, it won't fall off when riding, but in a crash or while off-roading the bolts just might snap off and then I'd have to pedal the rest of the way home(which is surprisingly easy to do btw) I'd really advise some gloves, at those speeds you'll wreck your hands so bad you'll never build anything ever again. I crashed with my wife's ebike doing only 25km/h because her brakes weren't working properly(she didn't tell me😅), nearly broke my wrist(still hurts months later) and got a massive road rash on my palms. Going triple that speed, that's 9 times as much energy, you'll crumple yourself mate. Nice job, it cool to see someone unleash the full 1500+ Watts of power, I haven't gotten over the 50km/h barrier yet. I'm increasing speed slowly, take her back for a checkup first to see if everything is still securely attached, I'd just dread the moment the rear wheel flies off doing nearly 72kmh 😅
@motomachinezuk87863 жыл бұрын
Hey that's good to hear you are pleased with the build. Sounds just like my first experience on an ebike, best thing since ipods lol. The battery doesn't feel very secure, there is a mod available, can't remember name to help hold the last 3rd of battery, saves drilling extra holes. I will always try to wear safety stuff it's just this occasion I was nieve of bike lol. Don't want gravel rash. I check my bike over for every ride like you said don't want that hub coming out of drop outs while doing a silly speed. Thanks for watching

I admire your helmet, full face. That's what I should have had last month when I did a swing too tight in my underground garage with super smooth floor and the front wheel sliding from under me while I'm already leaning into a right curve. -- Luckily I was wearing gloves and a right knee band and a helmet, though open face. The helmet did a good job but somehow the helmet pressed down on my plastic glasses and I ended up with a swollen upper right lip, and not more than all blue below my elbows and all blue around my knees. -- IMO the right side knee contact with the floor ACCELERATED MY ARTHRITIS, or perhaps my subsequent sedentary recovery (1 month) caused increased arthritis. -- Anyway, I'm fixing the arthritis with a sugar-free diet and will see how that evolves. -- I'm gonna buy a full face helmet like you have, and at the very least some elbow and knee protection. -- Remember, NOT TO GO TOO FAST, coz UNEXPECTED things can happen. Plus, a bike would be better that you can pedal for EXERCISE. -- I'm planning to get a FRONT-WHEEL kit simply for hill assist as I wanna remain strong in my legs. -- Congrats on the DIY-E-kit

How will the brake sensors work which you need to get fitted?

It's a pair of magnets and when lever is pulled connection breaks. One main end is cable tied and the round magnet i used double sided take to stick on lever.

@motomachinezuk87862 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed it, helps me make more. 250w is adequate but yes always a tiny worry police will try stopping me. I see it tho if riding sensibly they won't bat an eye lid in public. Once I got told off on my motorbike and he said do it in the middle of nowhere then I won't care, in build up areas I will get you was the message. Always keep that in mind. Good luck with kit and hope you are as pleased with it as I am with mine. Cheers

@@motomachinezuk8786 thanks for the reply i have just seen this, i appreciate it, ill be riding sensible for sure in built up areas haha. I was even thinking do i get a 500w for the stealth look and thought i don't need the high speed really, 30 max is enough for me but tbh id rather get the 1500w with the built in 250w mode so i have the power on hand and 250w restriction that is built into the kit apparently it states on there website, i could use that to blag them if i ever did get pulled, unless the laws change and they become more aware of ebike riders i think we will keep blending in ay looool

Mid drive for me and I find it’s way better on hills and off road, to much weight in hub wheel for good off roading imo. Be careful as if cops see u doing 30mph they are taking bike lol thumb throttle alone will get it took off you, they have kits now as well to test power of motor and 250watt on roads is legal limit which I think is stupid but I’m sure that will change to 750watt soon.
@motomachinezuk87862 жыл бұрын
I've no experience with a mid drive mtb or any electric mtb so this was my first choice only because the price difference in kits and I wasn't sure if I would like it. I want to do a mid drive some time though as want to try as lots say they are better. Cheers

Thank you, glad you enjoyed mate. Big question alot of variables, hills, speed, pedal and stuff plus rider weight. I get depending on hills but roughly riding quite fast between 20 and 30 miles. If I pedaled more and slowed down it would be quite a bit more I guess. vandervolt.co.uk/product/1500w I got from here but out of stock till end of this month they say. Hope 5hos helps

HELLO MATE WHAT RANGE ARE YOU GETTING OUT OF THE 17.5AH BATTERY?
@motomachinezuk87863 жыл бұрын
Hello all depends on weather and how hard I ride it. Pure throttle riding fast I get a good 20 miles will some biggish hills. 20 to 30 miles I would average. Alot more riding with pedals and slow. Hard question to answer so that's a few scenarios. Hope this helps

I was using thumb throttle I just got it positioned so I don't over strain my thumb on long distances. I got it starting high if you know what I mean. No peddling it has slightly more top speed from the thumb than peddles alone. The 29er wheels give it more top speed than the 27.5 I have Cheers they are great fun

@MBrady19703 жыл бұрын
What makes you say this, have you compared both systems? I', interested but never had any ebikes yet
@Itsudemo13 жыл бұрын
@@MBrady1970 I have two ebikes one with 72v BBSHD and other with 52v 2Kw Leaf hub So I guess i can give you qualified answer. What i can say is once you try powerful hub like 1.5-3kW theres so much power to bruteforce any hill thats not mountain. People with weak hubs complain about that. Hubs have their pros/cons. Hubs are more simple / less maintenance if set up properly. Hubs can make us of regenerative braking to save energy. Hubs dont wear your drivetrain and no need for shifting. Mid drives have better centre of mass. They handle better (relevant when using like mountain bike). Mids are more stealth and output crazy torque. Say you live in hilly area mids are probably to consider. For few occasional hills a good hub will also take care of it. Mid drives are expensive tho and you need to swap gears. (I dont as i have field weakening controller with crazy rpms) Its mostly personal preference if i had one bike i would choose mid drive. For casual groceries hauler and commuter decent hub is hard to beat. Yes my mid drive smokes any hub of its class but its also more expensive and i have expensive mods on top. I love both systems though. Cheers
