On the Feast of St. John the Evangelist, December 27, 2008, St. John's Episcopal Church of Detroit celebrated the 150th Anniversary of her founding on St. John's Day in 1858. The parish choir under the direction of Dr. Huw Lewis, FRCO presented the service of Christmas Lessons and Carols. This service is the kick-off to 11 months of celebration of the anniversary of the parish's founding on December 27th, 1858 to the opening of its chapel on November 19th, 1859.
The service begins with the bidding prayer, followed by the hymn "Once in royal David's city" (soloist Mary Grivas), and the first lesson (Genesis 3:1-15) read by Mr. Richard Moritz
