Home depot sells them for $13.50. People that think these are meant to safeguard valuables are nuts, they're literally made just for locking up medical marijuana or illicit items during transport and they serve that purpose perfectly; without probable cause or your consent, a police officer cannot open one of these boxes, period. No matter how weak the boxes are, no matter how easy it is to crack the combo. A judge in america cannot compel you to provide a combination either; yet a judge in america CAN compel you to provide a key, any relevant biometrics, or any other physical means of unlocking anything. These cheap little boxes are freedom-savers, and I say this from LOTS of experience having my freedom, and the freedom of friends that i've gifted these boxes to, saved by these combo boxes. They're only 13.50, but if I had to pay Master for all the fines and incarceration they've saved me from, I'd probably owe them six figures and 15 years
@phxgen4 жыл бұрын
Case and point: the internal dimensions of these things are just enough to perfectly accomodate four typical dispensary ⅛oz cannabis jars. Law enforcement in my state can attempt to charge you with a DUI if you leave the dispensary with your purchase just sitting on the passenger seat even if you haven't consumed marijuana in weeks, it literally happened to my cousin and he was convicted of DUI despite being completely sober. They absolutely cannot attempt to charge you if you lock your trees up in one of these $13.50 boxes. These crappy little boxes are nothing more than the cheapest possible route to a certain type of insurance policy.

Lockable containers like this are good for travelers, but not for in-room security. We use something similar for beach vacations. Throw your room key, some cash, and your phone in it and lock it to your beach chair. It keeps people from pocketing your stuff if your back is turned when they walk by your chair. We have no illusion that our container is pick or smash resistant, but it does a great job protecting our stuff from someone looking for unsecured items to grab.

I rarely charge anyone to get through a master, I feel like they have been hosed enough by them and I'm not willing to make them pay again for a piece of junk like what master sells. I think it's a disgrace for them to still be in business for selling such junk. They are ripping people off and I find it offensive. The whole company needs a security overhaul. The hinge is made with those slots in it as a mold artifact. Instead of having a pin that needs to be extracted in the mold, they form the top with one mold half and the bottom with the other mold half. I believe if you took it apart that each loop is two offset halves instead of one piece that surrounds the hinge pin.

The one thing you overlooked with the Master 5900D is you can actually see the gate because the gap is so wide! My ex-wife bought one and asked me to look it over and tell her how secure it really was. I picked it up, saw how wide the gap was, and rolled each number until the gates were lined up, prayed they at least didn't put the locking bar in the front, pressed the button, and it popped open. Total time was about 15 seconds. "Not very secure babe."

I was going to say that it's a marginal upgrade from using a zip-tie and a batman lunch box, but after looking at all the pictures of them falling apart in customer reviews, I'm actually going to say that a child's lunch box might be more durable. At least a lunch box has a heavier hinge and an interlocking lip on the lid. Survey of owner complaints: the hinge breaking in half the entire lock falling out (it's only screwed to the plastic on the side opposite the latch (watch when Bill breaks it open)) the cable coming unlocked when jiggled the lid opening if the box is twisted or dropped (or shimmed, since there's no lip on the lid) the printed numbers on the dials wiping off easily the lock failing to open with the correct combination (or only unlatching either the lid or the cable, but not both) the lock reset mechanism not working the lock opening with the wrong combination or any combination the latch jamming in the open position, making it impossible to re-latch the lid/cable the code wheels jamming or spinning freely, making the lock inoperable the crimped ends sliding off the cable easily rubber flap falling off immediately the latch buttons breaking off the hinge pin sliding out when the lid is open, leading to the hinge breaking when trying to close the lid sold as water-resistant when it's obviously not (holes for wires, no gasket, no lip) Nothing says "appearances over substance no matter the cost'' quite like that fashion statement, though. Adding superficial aluminum decorations only makes it cost more and provides no benefit toward the ostensible raison d'etre. They could've made an equally ineffective product for less, but they actually spent extra money to give false impressions. That should clue you in on what goes into the design process. Ultimately, making it secure is unimportant toward its actual reason for being. The product itself is an empty gesture -- merely an emotional stimulus in the form of a product-shaped object. The superficial features inflate the perceived value at the moment the product is fresh in the life of the purchaser. This moment is when you're most likely to associate the positive emotion of reassurance with the brand. Simply put, being functional or durable does not provide "impact".

Richard W Something too big for any door, window or other hole in the walls, even if someone removed the frames. Bring it in piece by piece and make sure any way to make it smaller or take it apart requires opening the (good) lock first. That's also how bank vaults are often installed, but those are also attached. So you can remove it by just unlocking and then taking it apart, but a thief can't open it or get it out. I don't know if there are any personal products like this, it's all just thinking practically.

Seriously ... MasterLock should be already out of business if people just know what secure quality their products is. But there's one positive thing about this "safe": It is that kind of box which keeps stuff secured only in the public where it caughts attention if you apporach to it in an unusual way (e.g. opening with a pick instead of just rotating the numbers). It's not intented to leave it unwatched; it DOES prevent thiefs from grabbing your stuff laying around and give a run.

I keep seeing videos all over about these boxes with people ragging on them for being junk, even though they only cost like $14 (NOT $30, that's absurd. 14 everywhere including home depot where I've bought all mine, going back like five years). What's worse is that all the haters don't even understand what these boxes are made for. Hint, it is NOT for securing your valuables! That would be insane, you can tell from a mile away that this device is NOT a "safe." I own and have owned MANY of these things. Back in like 2015 or 2016, home depot was offering the black, blue, and magenta versions of these in-store for the holiday season... I cleared out every store in my area multiple times, I bought over 60 of them to gift to friends and family. Iirc their Christmas "sale" was for a buck or two more than the $14 or so they're now charging for these things, but its been years so I may be misremembering. I do believe the older models were a wee bit tougher (overall physical construction, I don't think the lock was any different). I could be wrong, but I did watch a few police officers spend over half an hour trying to break one open. Perhaps they were just inept, they did seem it. I got a great laugh out of it, most definitely a $14-value laugh. Anyway, all you professional haters are egregiously failing to understand what these boxes are for. The point of these things is NOT a reliable lock, nor is it about a durable box. These things serve an important legal purpose and could potentially save your freedom; which is why I've purchased over 60 to distribute as holiday gifts in the past, and why virtually everyone I consider near and dear still has at least one that they use regularly. They've saved my butt more times than I can count and I know the 60+ I gifted have saved a lot of other butts too. These things are made for one thing only: keeping the eyes and hands of law enforcement officers off of whatever you choose to store and/or transport in them. The one time I watched some police spend sooo long cracking one open, It was empty and I had essentially handed them manufactured probable cause just to mess with them since they'd wasted my whole night messing with me over nothing. Under normal circumstances if you get stopped by the police and they have no reason to suspect you of a crime (probable cause), and you have this box or boxes im your vehicle or on your person and locked, law enforcement in America CANNOT open one of these things without your consent; no matter how weak they are, and no matter how easy it is to crack the lock combo. They cannot just sleuth out your lock combo if you've neither given consent nor probable reason to believe that you've got something illegal in the box. These things are for getting your medical or recreational marijuana home safely without getting a DUI, or your scheduled-substance prescription drugs, or your plain old illegal recreational drugs, whatever. Not only are police officers not allowed to open these things unless you've got other illegal stuff sitting out in the open in your car, or if you give them consent for whatever crazy reason; beyond all that, the reason they have a combo lock and ONLY a combo lock is specifically because a judge in America CANNOT compel you to fork over the combination, as it's an intangible that exists only in your mind. A judge can order you to produce a key to a lock, a judge can compel you to unlock a biometric lock like a fingerpint sensor, but NOT a combination. Doesn't that piece of mind sound like it's work $14 to you? It sure as heck is to me. FYI, one of these can fit four typical dispensary ⅛oz cannabis jars *perfectly,* or perhaps two ¼-½oz jars. Almost like they're made for eachother, huh?? They are! I'm not a shill for Master but I do in fact use and enjoy several of their products (such as these LEO-safety boxes and MANY typical key box lockboxes for storing an extra key hidden somewhere on every property I own; but what I love most about Master is their customer service. They offer real American "we'll make this right no matter what it takes" type customer service and that is rare these days. My most recent interaction with Master: a friend of mine bought one of their crazy expensive $60ish bluetooth smart locks, and they accidentally included the wrong combo in the package so my friend could never even use the lock. She forgot about it and waited so long that she couldn't return or exchange it at the store she'd bought it at, in fact she'd waited like three years before finally just giving it to me and I waited another year just forgetting do to anything about it. I had read on the internet that to get the combo from master lock, I'd have to bring it to the retailer it came from (Lowe's) and have someone there call master to get the combo based on the numbers on the back. I took it to Lowe's and everyone their was befuddled, they all told me to just contact Master. So, I did just that, and a real human being immediately began correspondence with me over this lock. They sent me paperwork to fill out and send in for the combo, but I procrastinated for months and just kept forgetting to fill it out and send it in. All the while, the Master representative was checking in regularly to make sure I was okay and remind me to send in the paperwork. I kept forgetting, and at this point it had been *four to five **_years_* since the lock was first purchased. One day I opened my mailbox and found in it a BRAND NEW $60ish Master BT smart lock, along with a personal note from the representative explaining that Master would rather just give away an expensive lock than leave a customer SOL because they just couldn't make the time to mail in the paperwork. I still have the old combo-less lock, plus the new one that I use every day on one of my tool bags. How many companies out there today have customer service like that??? The very very very few that do, like perhaps Coast Portland flashlights and pocketknives, they usually charge you "shipping and handling" for a warranty replacement that's probably more $ than jt costs them to manufacture and ship a new flashlight to you. *_ATTENTION_* All of you talking about how terrible these things are, you must know of a better alternative product that uses ONLY A COMBO, NO KEY so is therefore viable for keeping the police out, but one that's also much stronger and with a much better COMBO ONLY lock. They must be similarly cheap too, since you all think this freedom-saver is a ripoff at $13.89/each that these cost. Since you guys apparently all know of such a solution, would you mind sending me a link? I'll buy one for myself and another to have shipped to you, just to say thanks!

A VAULT, no.... but consider the purpose: For use when you go to a pool, tennis court or gym bag. My gym does not offer lockers. This would be adequate, though the lock should be guarded. Your cell phone, billfold etc can be protected again a common grab-n-go. The cable is to attach to a chain link fence, or to a lounge chair. This is NOT a new item, I had them in my store for the above purpose 3-4 years ago. We sold them for 19.99. Amazon is getting how much? We even had pink ones with a factory donation going to the Komen fund. Same 19.99
