Hilda brings so much humor and pathos to this show. She is my favorite after Elsie Tanner. I just wish they had let her have a few breaks, just one close friend or some good luck.

Golden era , when coronation street celebrated Christmas and had a sense of humour and storylines that reflected the country , sadly never to be seen again , coronation street today is depressing and indischwishable from Eastenders with its depressing themes , Glad to have the memories

I was 8 too. Now 46 years later, at 54 (born 14th December 1967), I'm watching this for the first time, (well that I can remember anyways). We always watched it. It however rings no bells, so it didn't stuck in my very young mind or long term memory.

God, Linda-- I emigrated to Canada exactly then, too, but as a child and not wanting leave England and my family ... going to back to England after decades in America.... going home forever and never leaving!

This was during the time that Bernard Youens had a minor stroke and was absent from the show for 2 months. The poor chap was never the same after that. He did return to filming but sadly his stroke left his speech impaired hence why they bought Eddie in. Before the stroke, Stan was clear talking and much more active.

Great episode however if I were a kid in that audience I’m sure I’d be bored stiff 😮. What were they thinking 😂. Good times, good memories. Hilda…my favorite, hands down!
