Hi! Im not gay, but I have at least 3 nieces and nephews who are Mormon and who’ve come out. The family is confused and doesn’t really know how to respond. I really appreciate how you speak specifically to Mormons as i feel your “Mormon Cadence” may be able to have an impact - which is why I was able to share this episode with my family. I also wanted to share how i appreciate Kay’s openness and vulnerability. Not being “seen” in the Mormon context is a theme that also resonates with me! Thank you for being willing to share your story 😊 Blessings to you both!

My family didn’t respond well when I came out as bi-sexual. But I am an adult now and they don’t control my life anymore. So Im a lot more free to create my own life, their narrative isn’t my narrative.

I can really relate to her mom‘s reaction. My mom acted the same way. It’s almost as if she was more worried about what people might think.

Everyone should just start telling the truth! The sky won't fall, and it levels the playing field. Thank you Kay, for sharing. I was shunned by may family, and it is something that you never really get over, I cope with it, You encouraged me, just the loving and gentle way you spoke! Where is the website link.

I think your shows are helpful in so many ways, but I'm often put off as a gay man (not a Mormon) how your advice to church leaders is put yourself in my shoes. That's impossible for one thing, but it ignores the core problem that this comes from doctrine. That's hardly unique to mormons, but it's difficult to change a perspective that thinks the Bible is on your side. People's mind usually change when it hits close to home. I had a friend, a Mormon, who had to go through her own struggle with my coming out. She is much better with it now, but it wasn't easy for her to ignore long established beliefs about gays. Anyway, your podcast is a gem and necessary. I wish Kay and her other half much happiness.

Very authentic… thanks. Also, a Jack Mormon is a “name only” member. Not active at all. Baptized but not participating.

I think of jack mormons as baptized but not keeping any rules but still believing. I’ve seen people define it as unbaptised but acting mormon (which is what I’ve heard called a “dry mormon.”)

This was really good! Can't wait to hear parts 2 & 3! Thanks for sharing Kay! We definitely need more female representation, and I'm seconding the comment below for no more "homo-ette" please.

A great interview. You have fantastic interview skills and Kay related a typical LDS Church response. Counselors who are unable to help. I also went through the same process the counselor follows a pattern they believe will cure you. They are just kidding themselves and making money for the Church.

Mmmmnn. From my neverMormon perspective... Seems like it would be very challenging to have Mormon parents not feel threatened by LGBT children because that destroys the Eternal Family. I imagine Kay's mom feeling like she was a "victim" of divorce through no fault of her own, due to her husband's cheating. Suddenly, she has to figure out how to save her broken Eternal Family. She finds someone new to be sealed to. She feels content that she's successfully saved her Eternal Family, but... then she's blindsided by one of her children being LGBT. That Mormon concept of the Eternal Family seems to add an extra layer of failure on the parents - maybe especially on the moms since it's their duty to create the Eternal Family, but they might end up having the least control over maintaining the Eternal Family since it's the men who control the sealings and...ultimately...they have no control over whether their children are gay. Seems like several fundamental Mormon concepts, like the Eternal Family, would have to drastically change for parents to not be threatened by LGBTQ nuclear family members. But, again, that's an outsider's view...

"....if ye should transgress and go contrary to that which has been spoken, that ye do withdraw yourselves from the Spirit of the Lord, that it may have no place in you to guide you in wisdom's paths that ye may be blessed, prospered, and preserved- I say unto you, that the man that doeth this, the same cometh out in open rebellion against God; therefore he listeth to obey the evil spirit, and becometh an enemy to all righteousness; therefore, the Lord has no place in him, for he dwelleth not in unholy temples. Therefore if that man repenteth not, and remaineth and dieth an enemy to God, the demands of divine justice do awaken his immortal soul to a lively sense of his own guilt, which doth cause him to shrink from the presence of the Lord, and doth fill his breast with guilt, and pain, and anguish, which is like an unquenchable fire, whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever." Mosiah 2:36-38

Hi! I loved almost all of this ❤️ thanks for the vulnerability. But can you please never use the word "homo-ette(s)" again? There is no need to further binary language. Thanks! 🏳️🌈
