You’re braver than me going on the River… my little 42’ trad would struggle against a strong flow. CRT really annoy me when they pick on legitimate boaters and appear to completely ignore unlicensed and overstay boats… I travelled from Northampton through Milton Keynes and saw many wrecks and plastic boats mostly in huddled groups some covered in sheeting and no way would they have a licence, insurance or a BSC… it’s so frustrating… anyway great video again and lovely to see Zeph enjoying herself..👍🏻

Your boat sounds adorable! I don't blame you for avoiding the River Severn though. I think the CRT must have seen us when we were moored at the beginning of the Gloucester and Sharpness and then when we moored on the way back when we had finished and perhaps they thought that we hadn't moved? Your wild mooring along the River Severn while awaiting the tidal bore during the night looked stressful, so I'm sure you were relieved it was only a 2-star bore. Zephyr meantime made a new friend, you counted some beautiful butterflies plus captured them exquisitely in your 2023 Narrowboat Journal. Your artistic skills have really grown since you started capturing the things you encounter on your adventures along the UK waterways, so I certainly look forward to your next journal. We've had 5 day heat wave with temperatures in the 90s (Fahrenheit) during the day and 60s and 70s at night, but a marine breeze from the Pacific dropped our temperatures 14 degrees overnight, so it's so much cooler. Most of us in the Pacific NW don't have air conditioning, so it's especially hard on us. You looked nice and cool although I'm sure you're tired of the rain. Anyway, have a great weekend counting butterflies and having more adventures, hopefully less stressful ones! 🦋🦋🦋 Jenny

@@themindfulnarrowboat I get up early and open my front door and put my box fan there to draw in the cooler air in the morning. I also close blinds and keep rooms dark except the room I'm using to reduce heat. I don't cook meals but serve them cold. I also work at my air-conditioned office during the day but since my car's AC compressor is broken, it's still a hot commute home unless I leave work early. I also take refreshing showers, drink lots of liquids, eat popsicles, etc. Jenny

I remember that bit of the Severn,We did it in a rusty old tub of a hire boat and when we got back the yard owner couldn’t believe we’d made it😂I get headeaches when a storm is coming ,might be the barometric pressure.And the butterflies!once they got going there were lots of all species.Lovely vlog as always.

Wow,,,,I have seen the Severn Bore,,,,it is spectacular,,,but can be somewhat scary!! Actually, as we were watching the vlog, we had a 4.3 earthquake in the Reihoku area of Japan - where we live.....That too is scary!! We are totally fine, but to feel the earth moving like water... uncomfortable is the word....Thank you, as always for your entertaining and relaxing videos!!

Lovely river footage at Gloucester. I like the sound of Gulls too, it reminds me of holidays at the seaside as a child. Your wild mooring made me question how people manage to handle a Narrowboat single handed. We’ve not had much of a summer this year, last year’s heatwave has spoilt us although I don’t necessarily want wall to wall sunshine every day. I’ve also done the butterfly count this year, I was pleasantly surprised by how many different types I saw but the biggest number were red admirals. Phew I’m glad you’re all safe after the tidal bore, good job it was only a little one! Lovely journaling as always. Stay safe on the river you 3. xxx

Hoo! Glad that tidal surge or bore, wasn't too exciting! But what a spot to moor! All those glorious butterflies, the peacock was just amazing, and ripe berries to boot! Had to be a great spot for Zephyr as well. Have a great weekend! Our Renaissance Festival is to start tomorrow but there's an excessive heat warning out, will get up into the 90s and be fairly humid too. The festival runs through September, so I can wait for a cooler day.

So good to see your smiling face on You Tube again. Fridays are just not the same when you are not there. It looks like rivers in some way are a bit more difficult to travel on then the canals. As far as butterflies go I must admit I am partial to the Peacock one with the bright colors and eyes on it's wing. When we first got married we lived in a flat right next to the Kennet Canal, Reading, opposite the Old Gas Works & Huntley & Palmers ... We looked out of our back window right into the canal .... For some years after, I used to have a re-occurring Nightmare that We were in a Narrowboat when a MASSIVE BORE came down the canal, but I always WOKE just before getting Swamped!!! .... Must've been a bit SCARY! anticipating what was about to happen?? ...

It is so strange that you have told this story as I used to have a recurring dream about being chased by a tsunami and like you woke up as it was about to swamp me. I was talking about this to my daughter and her boyfriend and he had exactly the same dream. I was in a high pressured job at the time and I think it stems back to feeling stressed, but it's interesting to discover others that have the same dream. I moved from London to Lydney to work on the Severn Wye cable tunnel at Beachley, so have seen and even water ski on the Severn bore. I loved the county very much and lived in several properties in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Lydney. You even sailed under a bridge I worked on as part of the city's ring road from Cross Hands hospital to the Dog track. Lots of farmers are setting land aside on a government scheme to grow wild animal food instead of human food, so there should be an increase in Glos wildlife. The forest of Dean is a great place to wonder, we used it a lot for dog walking our Jack Russel who loved charging along under autumn leaves in the gullies. Thanks for posting and reminding me of my time there.

What I think happened is you are not allowed to stay more than 2 weeks in one spot which we didn't but the person who checked the licences might have done that when we were in Gloucester Docks and then 2 months later, after we had visited the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, we went back to the docks for 1 week, and I am guessing that's when the person checked again and it might have looked like we had spent 2 months in the docks only. I don't think there is a way of proving that we had moved, other than sending them my vlogs? 🤭 Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻

Wow, so sad to hear what CaRT have said, their system is really bad for tracking CCrs. I have friends that have had no warnings despite months of over staying, then I have friends who have had real genuine hardship with their vintage engines being denied a long term licence and being told to move. CaRT, if you are reading this, please get it sorted. Sorry Vanessa, I am sure it's all a mistake, but you keep doing what you do. Such a lovely video again. Bless you girl. X

Thank you for your kind words, Terry.😊 I think CRT thought that we hadn't moved from Gloucester Docks over 2 months as they must have seen us moored there before we went down the G&S and then after without seeing that we had moved all the way down to Sharpness and back again in between that time. Hi Simon, I think there are some 5 star bores predicted for the end of August this year; I can't imagine what it must be like being moored on pins in one of those! I think what happened with CRT is we moored in the docks before going down the Gloucester and Sharpness and then we moored there on the way back 2 months later and I think they might have come out to check and thought that we hadn't moved in between that time. We move every week, so I can't understand how we would have broken the regulations otherwise? Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻

Oh this was such a cool diversion from the hot 110 F. day here in Phoenix. I was truly in awe of all the different spectacularly colored butterflies. The moment the bee sidled up along side the butterfly was truly captivating Vanessa, what a striking image to behold. I also loved the soft music selections you chose for these glimpses of nature. And . . . I'd never heard of a Bore Wave before, that was quite interesting. I truly enjoyed this Vanessa and send all my very best to you and Mr. M.

The red lion often gets flooded out because of the river, wainlodes is often cut off. Especially in the winter. Almost guarantee if Tewkesbury and Worcester is flooded then they will be too.

@@themindfulnarrowboat they have learned to adapt, they make most of their money in the summer with renting out for campers, then of it floods they close up. It’s quite a way of life there and around Tirley, Apperley, Maisemore, and Wainlodes. Drivers having to divert. Many moons ago I was part of a horse rescue underneath the Over Bypass as 60 horses got trapped by the flooding and they had to swim them out. Fireman lifting hay down from the bridge you walked under.

Thank you for your question. The answer is 20 miles a year which we have gone well over.I think what happened with CRT is we moored in Gloucester docks before going down the Gloucester&Sharpness Canal and then we moored in the docks 2 months later when we finished the G&S and I think, they think that we might have stayed in the docks for 2 months as they may have only seen us there. That's all I can think has happened as we have moved the boat every week? You are not supposed to stay for more than 2 weeks in one mooring either. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋

Someone comes round and notes down your boat licence number and then they do weekly checks. There are different people in different areas checking. They check to make sure that you are sticking to the rules of your licence. Ours is to Continuously Cruise so we have to move every two weeks and cover 20 miles in a year. I think what happened was as we went down the Gloucester and Sharpness canal we stopped first in Gloucester and then after 2 months moving every week, on the way back, we stopped in Gloucester again and they might have thought that we had stayed in Gloucester the whole time? I think that they spotted us twice in Gloucester Docks and might have thought that we had overstayed there, but we stayed there for 1 week, went down the G&S over 2 months, moving every week and then ended up back in the docks for 1 week. I've now accepted that we're on the naughty list and that Santa won't be bringing us anything at Christmas!😭😂 Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
