Toilet paper roll trick - I saw this on someone's facebook - if you have a traditional vacuum and, like me, lost your attachments long ago, you can affix the toilet paper roll to the end of your hose and use it to clean out windowsills etc. Since it's carboard and flexible, it can even get in tighter spots than your hard plastic attachment would. :)

Brittany, you have a unique brain that is always innovating. Yet your logical side is so strong and brings structure to every new idea. You are by far the best at coming up with videos that combine creativity with practicality. It’s really difficult to get this combo right. Other people on KZbin either get too creative where their tips are not useful. Or they’re useful, but it’s obvious, boring stuff. An added bonus about your videos is that you’re always aware of the aesthetics. You don’t let aesthetics be the priority but you do understand its importance.

Since hand washing is vital a great solution is to reuse our large liquid laundry detergent dispenser. Fill with water and you have a way to wash your kiddos’ hands where sinks aren’t accessible. I save the oatmeal containers and use them for all sorts of things. I have a large one that I covered with contact paper and use the outside to hold headbands, and the inside to hold scrunchies and hair clips. I use a smaller one to hold change, just slit a hole in the top with a knife to be able to easily drop your change in. Those gum containers also work good for keeping bobbie pins in your purse or while traveling. You can also make them into really small first aid kits with a few band aids, and alcohol wipes. They also work great as small snack containers for Cheerios, nuts, gummies, etc. I love these videos! Please make it a series like you had mentioned.

One of the things I love that I have repurposed is the Larger 48 oz Skippy Peanut butter plastic jars (Sam's Club). I clean them out and remove the label, then use chalkboard label and use them for cookies, chocolate chips, snacks, nuts, powdered sugar, rice etc. Pretty much most dry goods and snacks work as they go stale in the original package once opened. These jars have extra wide mouth so you can fit your hand all the way in. Love these as it preserves the food longer and it is see through so you can see how much you have left.

Marie I do the same thing but with spaghetti/pasta sauce jars remove the label/glue with an abrasive scrub pad or just put it in the dishwasher and the label/glue usually comes off easily if I take it out straight when the dishes are done and its still steamy. I am a granny gal and I have been upcycling and repurposing things for more years than I care to mention. I learned this from my mother who lived through the Great Depression and WW2. She was ingenious when it came to repurposing just about any item. For instance, she could not afford a bassinet when my siblings and I were born so she used an old dresser drawer lined with quilts for us. I have used everything you mentioned in your video at one time or another. One item that I use is the little plastic container in which mushrooms are packaged. These little things are great for organizing office and kitchen and bathroom drawers. I use a lot of mushrooms so I have a ton of them throughout my house for organizing a plethora of small to medium items. Deli containers from the grocery store are also reusable as pantry organizers for things such as dried fruits and baking morsels and nuts. I love your channel and always look forward to your new videos. You are quite an inspiration to so many young women, but we older ladies can learn from you as well. I wish you had been around when I was in my 20s and 30s, but, alas, you were not born yet and there was no internet! LOL!

Thank you so much, Brittany! These are genius. I'm already using old towels and wash cloths as cleaning rags. I stick to white linens so everything is easy to match, bleach and re-use. I repurposed thin, white, kitchen towels ("flower sack" towels) that I originally bought for the kitchen to dry my hands in the bathroom. These towels are super absorbent and they dry FAST (much faster than terrycloth) which leaves me with a dry towel for each use and cuts down on any mustiness in the bathroom. I use wooden clothes pins to close chip bags and frozen food bags, too. My current, best hack: I discovered that my favorite nuts come in a tall jar that is the perfect size/shape to fit in a standard wine rack. After they're empty I wash them, label the lids, and lay them down in a wine rack with the labeled lid facing out. These are PERFECT for hardware odds and ends like nails, screws, small Allen wrenches, drill bits, etc. Now I look at all the containers I frequently buy with a new eye: how can I reuse this item?
@janiewilliams58034 жыл бұрын

That's a great hack about the half toilet roll and grommet curtains. I've been needing that! Another hack with toothpaste is to cut it open when the tube is done. There's usually enough left for a few more brushings. I use the binder clip to close it up and keep the toothpaste fresh until it's all gone. I learned about this from watching Extreme Cheapskates. Most of the other things they do I don't recommend but this has been a handy hack.

Oooo, there are some real gems here Brittany. We re-purpose my old pantyhose in the garden. They are great for tying around plants + stakes as they are gentle and won't dig into the stalks. 😁

Using mesh fruit bags as scrubbers and putting newspaper with essential oil at the bottom of the trash are both my favorite hacks, so smart!

Brittany is such a breath of fresh air. I just smiled while listening to her. I really enjoyed hearing so many new ways to reuse so many items that I do already have. So helpful, so creative, & definitely very good for our environment. I especially liked where she showed using cut cardboard pieces wrapped in duck tape as dividers for drawers. Then when she placed the dividers diagonally, that was a great way to see everything in the drawer much better. I don’t think I would’ve thought to place them that way.

Another tp roll use is for planting seeds and then transferring them to your garden or bigger pot without having to get rid of it.

Since dust kicks up my allergies, I use baby wipes to wipe off dust & dirt from tables, lamps, door edges, etc. It makes it easier for quick cleaning.

I up-cycle the lids of the cheese shakers by putting them onto a cute mason jar. They look much nicer on the table when you have company or for your everyday use.

For arts and crafts my mom used to save old cereal boxes and break them down (basically any boxes) and we would use them as painting canvasses. Now, I still do this little hack and it's great for small little art projects with colored pencils or painting, just have to prime and it's good to go

I use toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls and dryer lint. These are the best fire starters! Place lint into roll and wrap with wax paper to keep from falling out or place wax on each end.

I keep all my jam and sauce jars and refill them at my local zero waste shops. I also reuse my toothbrushes for cleaning different things such as my grout, jewellery, oil diffuser, and I have one for the details around the toilet. Bamboo brushes are great because you can label them their job.

Ooh and I cut a plastic bottle in half. I use the top end as a funnel for whenever my kitchen needs call for it and the bottom I use for a compost scoop in my garden. The scoop is much less messy when my toddler is helping in the garden!

I love the up-cycling ideas! I reuse old cards for scrapbooking or making new hand made cards. Cutting out certain pretty parts or words to use for the future. I do the same with pretty packaging or ads I cut out what I want and save it for dolling some paper craft up 💕

Another awesome hack is the larger tic-tac containers can be used to store earbuds, charging cables, the brick will fit in there too. Plus q-tips for travel, candy in the car, bobby pins, paperclips, etc.
