Ford had similar problems on their trucks. The new FPCM came with retrofit plastic spacers to install between the module and mounting surface to let water and moisture to drain to prevent trapping it behind the module. Of course the module was also mounted vertically, so that helps!

Hey Eric, I had a 1978 International Scout II that was Ziebarted. My inner rear Quarter Panels rotted away. I used zip ties and mechanic's bailing wire to keep the outer Quarter panels from flapping. It was my understanding that to not void the warranty an annual "Inspection" had to be done near the anniversary of the procedure to maintain the warranty. The "Inspection" was to do the process again totally. The "Inspection" clause was in the fine print of the contract and most people didn't have it done. It also applied to the original purchaser only. I got my Scout in 1980 with 24,000 miles on the odometer. I kept it for 9 1/2 years and finally junked it. I enjoy all of your videos and await the next one.

International hauled bodies in white across town plant to plant. They were not dipped or rustproofed. You live in Arizona and never leave your ranch and your scout or IH pickup would rot through.

Back in the late 80s, my brother-in-law bought a 1979 scout from the original owner ,who was a lifelong friend of his stepfather. The original owner had used it as a plow truck, and it actually still had the snow plow on it. It was a rust bucket when he bought it, and he attempted to do a restoration on it and put it back on the road. He started to take it apart and then lost interest in it. It sat on the farm for another 10 years, and when they tried to haul it to the junk yard, I believe the Frame broke in half. It was one of the most rusted vehicles I had ever seen in Maryland.

Back in the 1970s I was introduced to low impedance voltage testers. The brand name was Wiggy, witch is now synonymous with solenoid voltage tester from many brands. I have an Ideal brand. Works great for voltages from 90 to 600 ac/dc. Today I use a Fluke DMM that has dual impedance testing. 20M ohm and 3.5K ohm. Works great. Fluke has 3 models with this feature. The 114, 116 and the 117. I have the 116 witch has features like temperature probe, micro amp scale for measurements of flame sensor current and min/max recording witch I use to troubleshoot signals that last 1/5 of a second. Well worth the money and have never had a problem with it. I guess I should add for those new to troubleshooting, this will greatly reduce ghost voltages.

The fuel pump driver module on my southern salt-free 2006 F-150 was rotted and the metal part of the case was actually cracked in half and deformed. I happened to notice it when I was installing some trailer wiring so I snuck a new one on there before it actually failed. It turns out that Ford decided to put the bare aluminum case of the module right against the steel frame of the truck. The aluminum against steel causes "galvanic corrosion". Some of the aftermarket ones come with stand-offs that address the Al+Steel contact issue, so I went that route ($40) rather than spending $220 on an OEM part that comes flawed from the Ford dealership.

Aluminum housings don't seem to survive long in that location. I don't know if it's straight up corrosion or a galvanic reaction protecting adjacent steel, all bolted together and covered with moisture. That area gets wet and stays wet, so you've got all you need for local galvanic reactions, with the module housing representing the sacrificial anode.
