Great song from one of the most incredible bands and underrated songwriters. Both 16 Horsepower and Wovenhand are both so wonderful. Oddly though this song is not on my copy of 'Sackcloth n' Ashes'. I saw that the song 'Haw' is supposed to be the 3rd track on the album after 'Black Soul Choir' but on my copy 'Scrawled in Sap' comes right after 'Black Soul Choir' instead of 'Haw'. Does anyone else have a copy of the album where this song isn't on it?

Heh, of course we do, but unfortunately 16hp have been widely spread in Greece because the soundtrack of some tv series used lots of their music, along with woven hand et al. Apparently they are extremely popular here, and apparently, a couple of gigs would be very welcome. Other than, that, well, with the recent situation in Greece everyone became a part of the turmoil, so, yeah, we tend to bicker at each other everywhere, even over our favourite videos and songs :)

First, sitting on the porch, where "the 'good men' stare" outside [cf Horse Head], with "rocks" on their hands, the MUSICIAN says (or should one say: the MAGICIAN...): "don't let your mind do all your walkin!" speaking also that he saw on the road the devil creeping (maybe, on the video, black eyed David), and he says be careful, "let the door hitem", so, i. e., the musician knows ONE way out of the self-righteousness of "strong men"... the devil TAKES HIS TIME, listen to the music and maybe you will hear, see and feel it. Maybe accept the spiritual "hanging" (the music videos starts with it and ends with it) and surpass the suicide impulse, that is driven by demonic impulses... As in the song of the same album, Harm's Way: "Bring it down bring it down on me Put me on a high horse so everyone can see Then kick the nag an leave me be Swingin' from the tree" And in "Seen What I Saw" there is clearly David's spiritual path that named the band: "Then I climbed up on the big horse strappin' Put the spur down to blood He took off 16 horses strong Left me lyin' in mud An there I sit until the sun's up shinin' Yes an black stands my ride Twenty hands high An watchin' spookeyed My hands on his side"
