@TheUnknown Legend me to my intj husband. "You're a good man, and a fantastic father. Now if you stop being such an asshole everyone else would see it too!" In all seriousness I think it depends on the emotional needs of the children. My partner's got acts of service and quality time nailed down, but words of affirmation don't come naturally to him. A critical father figure can have long term repercussions. Also there's a frustration when the kids have feelings he deems irrational. I think intjs forget that everyone, including them lives in a world constructed of their memories and emotions. Therefore the feelings of other's can't be discounted on subjects such as whether it's a valid opinion to be afraid of the dark lol. He describes it as realizing that he's been color blind his whole life. I think alot of intjs think they're the smartest and only rational person in the room, when actually they're completely missing half the conversation🙃
@angelamclellan7985 жыл бұрын
@TheUnknown Legend I can only speak from experience with my own intj spouse. I think, in general, he's a pretty good dad. But his problem is that he has a tendency to really invalidate my daughter's feelings because they don't make sense to him. She's a very sensitive and tender-hearted person and he might say something like, "Stop crying," which just is NOT helpful to her in learning to navigate life. Our son is still a baby so I can't comment much on their relationship. I think a lot of the time my husband thinks (correction: KNOWS) he is right about something, so he will dismiss any other thoughts on the matter. He does actually weigh my advice into his thinking a lot more now though. As long as I can present an argument to him in a way that makes sense to him, he will adjust his thinking if he feels what I've said has any merit. He's still a great dad in many ways, though. As a side note, it can be super fun when we both have the same strong intuition about someone or something and we just nod sagely at each other and instantly know we are thinking the same thing. It's a pretty cool connection.
@AmyKnepper5 жыл бұрын
I'm an intj mom but I have an intj dad. Not all intjs are heartless bastards. We can be affectionate and affirming, while giving our children a lot of freedom to be themselves. Marrying an infp helped me out a lot on the feelings side, by understanding me and helping me express myself better. (Still starting our own therapy fund too, though) :D
@wendyraye5 жыл бұрын
You have 3 kids - Sally, Jason, and Timmy. Sally is the oldest (most responsible), wants to be a doctor, tells it like it is, and is why you settled down and bought a house. Timmy is the youngest, gets his lunch packed with a special touch when he’s a senior in high school, and is the favorite child. Jason, the middle child, likes to play video games and never takes out the trash. The ranking of favorites are: Timmy, Sally, Jason. If Timmy falls a rank to “2nd least favorite” and Jason can “still pass” him, Jason is still at the bottom and Sally was in 2nd until Timmy got bumped down for leaving his backpack by the door. With all due respect, Sirs, the evidence points to Jason as the one who left his backpack by the door, not Timmy.

@@13vatra well therapy is just something everyone should go to. You don't need to be depressed or have ADHD or anything to go to therapy, therapy just teaches you genuine life skills to use. I would just like to say that my Dad is an ESTP, and I was writing an essay on the night of the Super Bowl, and he quoted your ESTP quote almost word for word. xD I showed him the video and he looked really confused. xD Thank you, Frank James, for such accurate descriptions! :D

@MartinRosol5 жыл бұрын
INTP here ... I always default to “it” when referring to babies. It’s not so good when you say it to the baby’s parent. I just don’t think of gender when I look at a baby. Maybe because I was German or Swedish in a previous life, and their words for baby have neuter gender. Yeah I’ll stick with that reason.

Single mom here who falls closest under the infj-a. My kids are still young and recently I've made their first two counseling sessions mandatory before allowing them the freedom to choose otherwise. Initial session is with me in the room, the second is without. If they decline further sessions and I'm OK with how the first two went, the option to continue at any time will always be made available to them and I may even make another mandatory session every once in a while and/or as soon as I feel one would be of their best interest. I thought of this one night as I sat awake in bed reflecting back on my childhood. Regardless of how anyone's life is going at any age, I believe counseling sessions should be worked into everyone's life as soon and as often as routine exams. I must admit to how proud I am of how openly and honestly my kids and I can communicate with one another. As a group? Maybe I should look into a couple mandatory sessions, LOL! FYI, it took me one edit and nearly 90 minutes to type this out :-/
