I'm going to new York in 2 weeks ,the metro card 26 dolares was for how many days? and is this card good to come from jfk airport to the city on the train ,or the subway goes there,thanks
@SarahFunky6 жыл бұрын
Hi George! If you are in NYC for around a week then I actually recommend you get the week pass. It will end up being cheaper. It is $32. If you are coming from JFK you will need to buy the Airtrain ticket. It is $7. This can be purchased at the airport. Follow signs to the Airtrain once you get off your flight and before you enter it you will need to buy the ticket. The subway ticket cannot be used on the Airtrain. More details here: jfkairport.com/#/to-from-airport/air-train

I also live in NY, and I just wanted to say if anyone who’s never been here before is buying a metro card for a week please buy the unlimited. It’s $32 and you’ll be able to ride the train or bus however many times you want throughout that week! And if you don’t know how to work the machines, you could always ask the MTA toll worker to give you a weekly metro card! Hope this helps someone. Have fun!

Hi Kimberly! Im visiting for the 1st time in a month & will have a NYC ( planning for an intensive) layover for 3 days...will this still be a good deal?...I'm looking for staying close to the Penn Station area...will really appreciate your local tips!🙏😉
@Kimyxo6 жыл бұрын
Ivette Correa hey Ivette! I think getting a weekly unlimited metro card would still be worth it considering it’s the only option with the least amount of days and you can ride the train as many times needed. One good thing to know about an unlimited metro card is that if you’re going on the train with someone else, they should use a separate metro card since the wait limit to swipe in the same station is 15 minutes. So if you’re swiping for yourself and want to swipe in a loved one right after, you would have to wait 15 minutes. A regular non limited metro card can swipe another person right after you’ve swiped as long as you have the proper amount. Hope this helps!

Let me qualify some of these suggestions from a lifelong New Yorker ( more than 60 yrs)... First..If you're staying in the city for at least 7 days, buy an UNLIMITED METRO CARD for $33... You can use this card 24/7 on all subway and bus lines throughout the 5 boroughs. Unlimited is the way to go. Secondly, with respect to restrooms..Your best option is to walk into virtually any HOTEL and seek a restroom ( usually on ground level or 3rd fl ..or just ask.) Most Europeans don't do this in their countries but here in NYC, there is NO PROBLEM ( EVEN IN 5 STAR HOTELS)... Don't be afraid, be confident. Third point...Don't avoid Times Square..it's a pass through selection of streets which includes TKTS where you line up for discount theater tickets next to the red stadium seating area where you can people watch. Avoid the 3 street hustles a) contributing to the "homeless", accepting a signed CD from an aspiring hip hop artist(s) and accepting a gold plated token from fake "Buddhist Monks".. IF ANYONE APPROACHES YOU ANYWHERE, USUALLY IT'S FOR MONEY.. Up to your discretion if you want to give or not... NYC is as inexpensive or expensive as you make it. You can buy everyday items for less at JACK'S DISCOUNT located on 32nd Street between 6th and 7th avenue OR on 40th street between 5th and Madison Ave.. Yes, YELP is a great source for finding restaurants or whatever you're seeking as recommended by New Yorkers and tourists alike. PIZZA- There's no such thing as the best NYC slice...that's personal..BUT from my perspective my choices are a) Bleecker St Pizza at Bleecker St and 7th Ave South b) Prince Street pizza on Prince St off the Bowery c) Joe's off Carmine and 6th Ave close to West 3rd St or at East 14th street off 3rd Avenue d) Two Boots Pizza ( look up their various locations) You can also visit EATALY ( all Italian foods) at 24th st and Broadway OR at 4 WTC . For the real LITTLE ITALY, VISIT ARTHUR AVENUE in the Bronx... Mulberry St downtown is chock full of restaurants catering to tourists...not really an authentic experience. There are too many things for me to suggest here but why not start your experience signing up at www.bigapplegreeter.org about 1 month before arrival. We are New York City residents who volunteer showing visitors around the city for FREE. Be minded that even if you sign up, there's no guarantee you'll get a Greeter BUT if you do, your experience will be rewarding. Check out www.tripadvisor.com for info and more suggestions about anything New York City. I hope this helps...WELCOME TO GOTHAM CITY and the USA...

HUGE disagree to the timesquare tip. If you’re a first timer to NYC, spend LOTS of time there. It is amazing. Sit down, people watch, go shopping, take photos, and PLEASE, go at both day and night.
@triciaesposito57906 жыл бұрын
People don’t listen to Cole here. See Cole spent a lot of time getting played by the guilliani neon lights and didn’t even notice it. Stay out of Times Square unless you want to spend time eating at TGIF. Go out of Times Square and hit Brooklyn, queens, Harlem, and even Staten Island. Do not I repeat do not go to Times Square like Cole here and go home and say you experienced New York...Cole here needs to rebook another ticket my guy
@colesmith44186 жыл бұрын
+Tricia Esposito nah I’m sorry, but I’m going to defend my statement here. I spent two weeks in New York City and it was an absolutely perfect two weeks. I did in fact go to Brooklyn, Staten Island, and many places off of Manhattan. My point is, if you have never been to Times Square, is it quite a magical place upon visiting for the first time. Of course you should not spend all day there, but it is absolutely a must see place in Manhattan. Maybe it is the neon, the lights, the craziness, but it is something that is so incredibly unique to Times Square.
@triciaesposito57906 жыл бұрын
Cole Smith lol time Square is nothing but a made over brothel and dealer spot. I’m glad you spent two weeks in New York Cole...I’ve spent a life time there. There’s nothing magical about time square. It’s only for tourists who think they are having a New York experience without going too far urban you got played if you spent more than 10 minutes of your life in Time Square That’s not New York and doesn’t represent anything to do with this great city. You can recommend time square all you want Cole, but the truth is you had an Instagram version of New York and that’s apparent by you defending your stance on a touristy lame watery suburb friendly fake Elmo waving spot like Times Square
@triciaesposito57906 жыл бұрын
Tim L it’s not for anyone to tell you how to enjoy a city. If I tell you where to go then you are living my life, and experiencing my adventures. Just get lost in every corner of the city and don’t listen to other people. Stay out of Manhattan that’s my advice and go straight to little Italy while you still can. Go to Brooklyn and have good deli, go to queens, go to the Bronx, go to Harlem while it’s still Harlem, go to Staten Island if only to tell people it’s not a forgotten burrow. Get lost in New York and you’ll have your own experience and your own adventure. You guys come on this channel and expect someone from upstate to tell you information on how to live. This girl did the same thing you all are doing when she first moved here. She stuck to hipster cafes and safe zones and is telling you to do the same shit. My advice is you can save money by having a cheap breakfast, lunch at a deli. Eggs with lox, bagel and cream cheese, coffee light and sweet. This is all you need man. Stay away from places that have mason jars and go straight to Dominican spots. Go to city fucking island and you will have the time of your life and have a henny-colada. Don’t be afraid of anything live off your phone and act like it’s the 60s and you will experience shit the way it’s supposed to be. You’ll find your own spots that way, you’ll find your own bar, you’ll find the perfect bodega that makes your coffee or chopped cheese just right. This girl says it’s expensive because she lives in a bubble...pop that shit and BE in real New York not the gentrified suburb these people want it to be. Hope this helps.

As a native New Yorker, the bathroom thing always cracks me up. There is an abundance of clean safe bathrooms everywhere. Malls, major retailers, like Starbucks and Dollar Tree, museums, parks, of course Penn Station and Grand Central Station. You don't need to make a purchase. They are everywhere.

The best bathrooms are at the nicer hotels. I pee at The Plaza. Go into the guest entrance (not the residents' entrance) through the foyer to the left of the bar area. Down the stairs a few levels is a clean and climate controlled bathroom. ;) Any other hotel, just walk in like you belong there, look for the restaurant, and the rest rooms are usually close by.

One important note for tourists: please don't walk in arms horizontally on the sidewalks lol. You will notice the foot traffic is just as heavy as the automotive traffic on the street. A couple of things to add 1. No point in going to the Staten Island, and if you go to the Bronx be very careful of what neighborhoods you’re going to 2. Many restaurants won’t let you use they’re bathrooms if you ask, but if you just go to the back like you own the place you’ll be fine 3. Absolutely stay away from driving around Manhattan (whether on your own or in a taxi) it is almost always quicker to take the subway

While Staten Island may not be a great place for tourists one can still take the Staten Island Ferry for a nice tour of the harbor and it passes near the Statue of Liberty. It is free and takes about 25 minutes in each direction. I believe they make all passengers get off upon arrival at its destination but one can then just board the next departing ferry for the return trip.

Hello I live in New York and there is much more than Manhattan. I live in the Bronx, which is a very nice place. There is a lot of self made restaurants and businesses. It’s also very quiet. I recommend living the Country Club area, although a lot of gossips hang around here. If you are planing on going to the Bronx, Country Club has wonderful Elementary, Middle, and High Schools. I recommend the school VMA, the school is wonderful, the faculty is nurturing, the curriculum is astonishing. That is how I got a vocabulary and reading level of a high schooler at fourth grade! Some of the parents are snobby, as well as some of the children, I still recommend sending your child to the school. This school goes to UPK-8, I do recommend your child is on level in learning, or more. This school DOES nickel and dime you left and right, as well as the pricy tuition. But all in all, one of the best schools in the state.

About taking photos. I see it all the time. I hate it when people stop in the middle of wherever they are to take a selfie or whatever. I see it inside the Oculus at the World Trade Center, for example, every time. As soon as you walk in, people are standing right in the middle to take pics. I have to walk around these people. It's so annoying. Funny that you mentioned Williamsburg. I was born there, but moved when I was 4 1/2. Brooklyn Bridge Park is very nice too (and they offer free kayaking in the summer). I never use the taxis. I usually walk or take the subway. You can also apply for an EasyPay Metro Card if you travel into the city a lot (I use it myself and love it). This way, you don't have to reload the card. It will automatically reload for you. You can get this online at the mta site. Great video.

Chinatown has really good and cheap food. Can be quite full for $10 a person around dinner. If you have a hotel in this area, you can find cheap breakfast too. Best way to save is to not drink alcohol. Some fancy places even have cocktails between 25 and 30$ such as the Aviary at Mandarin Oriental (although a nice view). Tipping 15% is generally recommended, 18% for fancy restaurants (but sometimes included in the bill). Regarding bathrooms, you can also walk into some hotels and act like you are a guest. If you want a nicer bathroom than the one in Grand Central, walk into the Grand Hyatt hotel that is next grand central station. Some big stores also have bathrooms. In Northern Europe you often have to pay, in NYC no-one bats an eye. If you are in NYC for a week, I would always get the $30 unlimited metrocard. Each single fare is $2.75 so you only need to use it 11 times. When I travelled the first time, I probably used it 4 times a day, that's $77 in single fares.

you should download the metrocard fare calculator app that tells you how much money to add based on how many trips you'll take so that you are not left with an odd amount on the card that you cannot use. As a local, I use the app all the time since I hate having leftover money on my metrocard. For tourists this is especially useful since they'll lose out on money that they could have used somewhere else.

Great video. Will use some advice the SIM card is a banging idea but I am a first timer with my Mrs. I hope NYC people understand if we walk a little slow. My Mrs has ceribel paulsey and I am almost blind. We have to go to time Square to see the lights. We won't eat at chain restaurants we don't at home. I have been told not to take cash as I will get mugged and I can use my card for everything even taxis. Is this true? For a weekend how much cash would I or should I take? Should I tip in cash? Many thanks. T

Note about MTA subway: It's a single flat-fare system ($2.75) with free single transfer to/from a bus line on the same fare. THere are weekly and monthly unlimited use options. The Special Bus Service (SBS) require you to pre-pay at the kiosk at the stops to obtain a proof-of-payment receipt -- use your MTA Metro card. These buses are different to eliminate fare collection on the bus by the driver to speed boarding, but you must have a receipt to show the driver as you enter. The PATH trains to/from New Jersey are ticketed separately. Your MTA Metro card will NOT work. The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and the New Jersey Transit NJT regional trains DO charge by distance and DO NOT use the MTA Metro card. You must get your fixed fare ticket between your stations before you board to avoid a penalty fare.

I just went to NYC (Manhattan, China Town, Herald Square, etc.) last week. I had fun, but being born and raised in Florida, I could never work/live there full time. It is just way to busy for me, and there were bags of garbage piled on the sidewalk. There are alot of tourists in Florida also, but unless you are in downtown Orlando, it is much more spread out. Maybe that is why all the northerners retire to Florida...lol. I will stay here and enjoy walking on the beaches, instead of over crowded, noisy sidewalks.

Good video. We will visit New York in August. I’ve got two more questions. 1. Are there discounts 4 students (even international students) in public transportation? 2. We want to visit Miami too. Would u recommend travel by bus, rental or by plane? I’m happy 4 every answer. (Just discover this channel, I leave a like and a Abo)
@SarahFunky6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lars Gottschalk! If you found this helpful, you might want to check out the other videos in my NYC series here: bit.ly/NYCseries18. Have fun in New York! As for your questions: 1. Sadly there are no student discounts unless you are in high school or middle school. College (university) students do not get discounts. This is something that even surprises me! 2. Miami is very far from NYC. You will need to take a plane ride there. It will take about 3 hours.
@ampat79766 жыл бұрын
Lars Gottschalk hey as a New Yorker, depending on how much time you have, you may want to leave Miami for another time. A person can probably spend a lot of time in NY.

@derpymemes96945 жыл бұрын
no no don't rent a car cause 1-its a busy city so a lot of traffics mostly taxis. 2-you will enjoy walking around cause it's fun. 3-you could always take subways for transportation(36 dollars for a unlimited card which you can transport every where and time,subway/bus.

Waiters are taxed on their tips in NYC and the rest of the USA. The tax is based on your bill so if you spend $100 at a restaurant then the waiter is taxed $2.50. There is often a mandatory tip-out to the other staff of about $5.50 on a $100 bill. Some States have a State Income tax and a few cities have an income tax of their own. All of this is based on your bill and not on what you tip. So basically if you don't tip then the waiter must payout $8.00 (or more if there are State and or city income tax) of his/her money to cover the tax and tip-out on your $100 meal.
